DateQuestionAnswer
2010-12-20 13:00:00Who do you like better from here on out...Rickie Weeks or Jose Reyes?
(Liam from Malone, NY)
Reyes. He is much more multi-dimensional and I'll take a good fielding SS over a poor fielding 2B any day, especially when the SS has actual offensive talent. (Eric Seidman)
2010-10-25 13:00:00What do you do if you are Doug Melvin??? Fielder isn't going to bring back much, but you are still 1 guy short in that Rotation with Wolf and Gallardo...Who do you sign, outside of Lee who will probably headed to the Yankees?
(JT from MKE)
I think you have to invest in at least one of the upside risk kids--Harden or Vazquez and the like--and Jorge De La Rosa as well. Because speaking of defense-minded choices, while I think getting Rickie Weeks off second base would be a favor this or any pitching staff would appreciate, you may as well adapt to that awful right-side infield defense by gunning for strikeout guys in the rotation. (Christina Kahrl)
2010-03-25 14:00:00Hey Joe, Care to share some of "your guys" for this season?
(Fred from Houston)
I've been including some of these in the pieces I've been writing for Rotowire, but off the top of my head...Trevor Cahill, Drew Stubbs, Alfredo Aceves, Rickie Weeks, Dexter Fowler, Chris Outfielder Young. Ruben Gotay if finds his way to the majors. (Joe Sheehan)
2010-03-08 13:00:00What’s the prognosis for Rickie Weeks? Is there sufficient history of recoveries from torn tendon sheaths to opine on lingering effects and the completeness of recovery from this type of surgery? The THR was vague on this. It seems that Week’s first half last year indicates he recovered nicely from his prior wrist and knee surgeries.
(Southcoast from Texas)
Weeks is an interesting case in that he's been good when healthy but seldom healthy. Maybe he just can't hold up. It's also interesting in that he's one of the many brother pairs in baseball. The genetic component is one that just fascinates me. Is it in Weeks' DNA that he can crush a ball but not hold up? (Will Carroll)
2010-03-08 13:00:00Have the brewers always been above the curve with this...or has it been the arrival of Rick Peterson? And can the ASMI also be used to help hitters...Rickie Weeks being the example of why he is putting so much strain on the wrists?
(JT from MKE)
I don't know about the hitter thing. Good question.

And no, they were doing this before Rick Peterson got there. I think Rick will accelerate things. There's a whole lot more on that I hope to bring to you over the next few weeks. (Will Carroll)
2009-02-10 14:00:00Is it time to give up Rickie Weeks becoming a stud? Will he ever raise his batting average to a respectable level?
(Mike from Niles, IL)
I've been poor-mouthing Weeks for so long that I wonder if we all haven't over-corrected in his case. He's not as good as his most fervent believers, and that's a disappointment. I still think he could be a pretty awesome asset if you put him in center, but if last season's improvements at second stick, then he's a solid regular. That's a disappointment for people who expected stardom, but it's still worth having. (Christina Kahrl)
2009-01-29 13:00:00How nervous would you be about rolling with Rickie Weeks as your starting 2B this year?
(Aaron from YYZ)
I think I'm on a Rickie Weeks strike until he proves to me he can be useful for more than six weeks at a time. I'm not sure there's a guy out there who drives me nuts as much as him in fantasy leagues. (Marc Normandin)
2009-01-29 13:00:00I drafted Brandon Wood and Rickie Weeks in my Scoresheet continuing league with my last two picks. Should I draft a backup shortstop (Khalil Greene) or a backup 2B (Orlando Hudson) next?
(bothedog from The desert)
Yes, please do that. The last questions we had referring to those two players were answered uneasily.

I have to run to work in a few everyone, so let's hit the lightning round. (Marc Normandin)
2008-11-03 13:30:00Was the Rickie Weeks/Ray Durham platoon a good idea? Do you think they'll do the same in 2009? Now that Cameron is in the fold, the option to move Rickie to CF is gone.
(Rob from Alaska)
OK, I know, it's a bit of a run on Brewers questions, but I'll deal with this one now too... yes, it was, but I've never been sold on Weeks' ability to stick at second. Picking up Cameron's option makes sense if you can deal him (for young, under-control pitching, perhaps), but I think the charade of calling Weeks a second baseman needs to come to an end if the Brewers really want to turn the corner. (Christina Kahrl)
2008-10-06 14:00:00Rickie Weeks has to be better than this right?
(Neal from Joliet, IL)
I have no idea at this point. What I do know is that he's not a second baseman, so let's take that off of his plate, give him a shot in center field and see if that changes everything. B.J. Upton is the model here. (Joe Sheehan)
2008-08-15 15:00:00Rickie Weeks: MLB, AAAA or Hey he's under 25, relax?
(nstampe from Madison)
I guess I never really got onto the Rickie Weeks bandwagon, because I keep thinking that his shortcomings as a second baseman are going to push him into the outfield sooner or later, and he doesn't hit well enough to cut it in a corner. If he could handle center, I can sign up for the third option, but if he can't hack it there, we start getting into whether or not he's an obstacle you have to overcome. (Christina Kahrl)
2008-07-17 13:00:00Rickie Weeks has to get better, right?
(ajmorriso from Chicago)
The progress Weeks made straightening his swing out in order to cut down on grounders, the thing that allowed him to drive the ball in the second half, has been a non-factor this year, and it's driving me nuts. He can't hold a quality BABIP to save his life since he can't hit liners consistently. He's epically frustrating.

Stephen Brodsky's "Octave Museum" just came on. Psychedelic pop rock for the win. If you haven't tried out Brodsky, he's fantastic. (Marc Normandin)
2008-07-03 13:00:00Is punting average a viable strategy in head-to-head? There are values to be had in terms of hitters (Encarnacion, Cameron, Jacobs), but I'm wondering if you leave yourself vulnerable to your whole team slumping.
(ted from the cubicle)
I'm not a big fan of punting average, just because usually the guys that do well there are your best players in other categories. You're right - there's some value with the low average guys that do well in others (see also Adam Dunn, Rickie Weeks), but yeah, if they all go bad at the same time, then you're probably stuck in all the offensive categories across the boards. I think punting is still a good h-to-h strategy, but moreso with saves and/or SB's. (Jeff Erickson)
2008-06-17 15:00:00I'm a displaced O's fan who will finally get to see his team play this weekend in Milwaukee.....the Booers fans are throwing out the Rickie Weeks for Brian Roberts trade idea and love it. I think it's insanely awful....but do you think that's the market Roberts will command at the deadline?
(Ryan from Milwaukee via Maryland)
I think I may carve my eye out with a carrot peeler if I have to read one more Brian Roberts trade rumor. The one I'm clinging to is that he's going remain with the Orioles and be buried in Peter Angelos' tomb. Until the owner gives the green light to trade Roberts, it's a waste of energy to think that he'll actually be dealt. (Jay Jaffe)
2008-03-28 14:00:00You are pretty high on Rickie Weeks. After his 20 stikeout spring are you still there and what is your projection for him this year?
(braden23 from madison WI)
Weeks is going to strike out a lot, which is why projections for him limit his BA upside to .290 or so. Even if he hits .270, he'll have enough walks, power and steals to be a very good player. I'm calling .280/.375/.475. (Joe Sheehan)
2008-03-18 17:00:00What's your impression of Rickie Weeks? Is this going to be a breakout year? Or are we going to see another 230 Avg?
(ejohnson from hell)
I woudln't worry about Weeks batting average too much. He had a .292 EqA last year. You'll take a second baseman with a .292 EqA right? In fact, you'd probably want to put that second baseman in Cooperstown if he did that every year. To answer your question, I don't think he'll "breakout" but it might look like he is by traditional measurements. (Jim Baker)
2008-02-28 14:00:00Who's got the best bat going forward? Zimmerman, Kendrick or Rickie Weeks? Been disappointed by all three (fantasy wise) so far...
(Hammer from next to Charlie O)
Kendrick, especially in terms of fantasy production, but perhaps also in terms of his value to real teams. (Christina Kahrl)
2008-01-15 14:30:00What kind of season do you see a (hopefully) healthy Rickie Weeks having? I hope he can build of his huge September at the plate.
(cjbuet from madison, wi)
Considering he had a .198 ISO and a .235 batting average, all he would have to do is bring that up about 20 points to be a great 2B option for fantasy and real-life. I'm pretty confident he can do that. and he may do a bit better than that too. In fact, since someone asked earlier who my choice for breakout player was in 2008, I'll go with Weeks. I may change my mind as the season approaches, but for now let's call a .280/.390/.500 season for Weeks, just for kicks. (Marc Normandin)
2008-01-23 13:00:00Do you feel PERCOTA is better at projecting at certain positions over others. IE is it easier to project a 2B over a 3B based on body type.
(Grizzly from Georgia)
Second base might actually be the most difficult offensive position to project because it's sort of a bastard-child position that most players end up at toward the end of their careers. Particularly if you have a young second baseman that breaks type, like Rickie Weeks, PECOTA may not find a whole lot of comparables and will have to cheat by looking at third basemen and so forth. (Nate Silver)
