DateQuestionAnswer
2008-09-24 14:00:00 (link to chat)How good is Ryan Shealy, really, and what can we expect from him next season?
(Jeff from DC)
Ryan Shealy is 29 years old at this point, so it's not like he's some kind of prospect anymore. Bench bat at best. (Kevin Goldstein)
2008-09-12 13:00:00 (link to chat)What is going on with Joe Koshansky? Will Colorado ever find a use for him?
(Andrew from Washington, D.C.)
Organizational player as Helton insurance? Keeping people happy in Colorado Springs? He's better than Ryan Shealy, certainly, but it's important to recognize how much this year's campaign is about being a 26-year-old putting up big numbers in the big number-generating ballpark in Colorado Springs. (Christina Kahrl)
2008-07-24 13:00:00 (link to chat)Christina, I have a modicum of optimism about the Royals (perhaps misplaced by seeing the Indians in last). They have a few parts they could be moving at the deadline (Grudz, German, Guillen?), but will they be active sellers?
(Tim from DC)
Don't look at me, if I remember correctly, I picked them to finish third on a day I must have been seeing the world through powder-blue glasses. I think they'll deal any of their veterans, but I also think they don't have elaborate, exaggerated expectations about what they'll get. If they're fortunate, they add some first-base type who's already in his peak years, and plug him in. I know, that's what they thought they were getting in Ryan Shealy a few years back, but that wasn't a good idea at the time given Shealy's park-generated power and predictably underwhelming hitting once he was no longer a Sky Sock. (Christina Kahrl)
2008-03-25 14:00:00 (link to chat)The Royals are going to cut Justin Huber, a young power hitter, which is something they are desperately in need of, in favor of Ross Gload and Joey Gathright. Is there any hope for this organization?
(Bearfrog from Dallas)
Well, I may be no big booster for Gload or Gathright, but if you want to scapegoat somebody, how about Ryan Shealy? I still don't get why people got all that worked up about Shealy. Similarly, I think my fellow statheads need to wrap their heads around the idea that Huber really isn't all that. He's not really that patient, he doesn't really have that much power, and physically, he really is only a first baseman. If you want to have him around instead of somebody else, pick on the older, just as right-handed first baseman who only ever mashed in Colorado Springs, and even that was off of thrice-cooked Triple-A lefty mound fodder. (Christina Kahrl)
