2004 Author of a 15-9 record despite allowing nearly 14 baserunners per nine innings, Robertson was rated the sixth-luckiest starter in the majors according to Michael Wolverton's Support-Neutral W/L Report at baseballprospectus.com, and such luck rarely lasts (new teammate Andy Pettitte was the luckiest-uh-oh). The Astros didn't expect much more than an ambulatory fill-in guy after shuttling in Robertson to replace the departed Shane Reynolds, and that's really all they got. Though thought of as a groundball pitcher, his GB/FB rate of 1.16 ranked him a shade below the median NL starter. If he's to keep his rotation spot as a finesse lefty, he'll need to induce more dribblers to take advantage of Adam Everett and keep the ball as far away from Biggio and company as possible.
2003 Returned to the rotation after a year of working out of the bullpen, Robertson ended up being voted the Most Valuable Pitcher in the PCL. The University of Washington product is all about command, yielding more than three walks per nine innings only once since Houston picked him in the 24th round in 1995. One of the Astrosí few lefties, Robertson will be first in line for a starting audition in Kissimmee if Hernandez isnít ready to go, but it says here that his success is a figment of pitcher-friendly Zephyr Field (2.1 runs per game allowed at home versus 4.1 on the road).
2000 Heís another polished pitching prospect with too much mileage on his arm. Robertson led the Florida State League with 175 innings in 1998, then led the Texas League with 191 innings last year. Even if he stays healthy, I donít think he has the stuff to be a successful starter in the major leagues. Far lesser left-handers have crafted long careers out of the bullpen.
