2010-04-15 13:00:00Was Andre Miller the free agent acquisition of the year? Other marquee pick-ups like Hedo Turkoglu or Ben Gordan woefully underperformed. Only David Lee was better, but he didn't get any offers when he was a restricted free agent and he essentially just finished out his contract with the Knicks.
(Sam from Portland)		Yeah, I think that's a pretty good take. Lee was the only player with a higher WARP total who was a free agent last year. Paul Millsap was third. It depends on whether you're comparing marquee signings only or include someone like Channing Frye who provided a ton of production for very little salary, but as compared to the other big-money signings Miller looks terrific with the benefit of hindsight. I don't see Lee as being particularly likely to bust, and Stoudemire is young enough that motivation is the biggest question mark in his case. 2010-02-12 13:00:00Saw some Synergy data recently w/c indicated 15% of the Knicks' shot attempts come on post-ups, and by my personal observation, they don't really have an accomplished back to the basket player. Last year, Quentin Richardson was at least posted up a fair amount against leaner wings. Does D'Antoni need to diversify his offense and get someone like Bosh or Boozer for 2010 (assuming the primary FAs stay)? Right now, almost everything is facing the basket and mostly jumpers...even David Lee.

2010-02-12 13:00:00Let's talk about David Lee for a second. He's a nice player but a bit one-dimensional (not a good defender) and not worth an enormous contract. What should the Knicks do with him? Am I crazy for thinking that they should try to trade him?

2009-11-12 13:00:00David Lee currently has the worst adjusted plus/minus on the Knicks, and his defensive issues have really been exploited so far. Would the persistence of this hurt his contract value next year, or would better teams feel comfortable that they could "protect" him in their systems (in a way the Knicks can't)?

His defense was problematic but not a disaster last year, so that's one of the things about this year's Knicks that baffles me. 2009-05-15 13:00:00How do you see the Knicks dealing with their Nate Robinson and David Lee question marks? Do they cut them loose? And all the talk about Steph Curry and the Knicks, would he be a good fit for them? He seems like really like Mike's style of play but I wonder if he'll be a productive NBA player.

(BK from Boston, MA)		I'm on the record as saying Millsap. If money was no object, Boozer is the better player, yes. However, he's going to get a deal at least twice as lucrative, and there's no way to gap in production is that large--especially when you consider Boozer's history of injuries.

I think there were times this season that Jazz fans might have been ready to drive Boozer out of town with pitchforks (do they still do that in Salt Lake City?), but last night was a reminder of the kind of force he can be when he's right. Naturally the best hope for Utah is that the bad economy drives down salaries to the point where they can keep both players.

This will be an interesting summer for mid-tier big men. You've got Millsap and David Lee both on the market, and it's uncertain how much money will be out there for those guys. There could be some real bargains along the line of the summer of 2002. (Kevin Pelton)

They're hoping Darrell Arthur becomes that kind of player next to Marc Gasol, but his first season wasn't highly encouraging. I could see David Lee complementing "Shock and Hawes" in Sacramento if the Kings look to the perimeter with their lottery pick and they decide to spend their cap space instead of rolling it over and saving money. RFAs who are worth more than the mid-level but less than the max are always somewhat challenging to predict because they are so heavily dependent on one of the teams with cap space having interest. I would guess something in the 5/40-50 range, but maybe that's a little pessimistic from the Knicks' perspective. I would not be stunned to see them get a bargain. (Kevin Pelton)
