2008-07-09 13:00:00What pro pitcher has had the worst mechanics you've ever seen? Craig House maybe?
(Jimmy from StL)
I just saw some video on a kid in Houston's system and I have no idea how to even describe it. It's against the laws of biomechanics and perhaps physics. I'll look for his name. Kyle Peterson's "marionette" mechanics come to mind -- he had a pause at the top of his delivery where it seemed like someone had cut his strings or he had narcolepsy, killing all his momentum and putting all the pressure on his shoulder. BJ Ryan's are just hideous, but the results are pretty good. (Will Carroll)
2008-05-01 13:00:00Can you give us a couple of comps for Scherzer? I guess I'm asking for a few pitchers who have sustained such violent mechanics and gone on to long and successful careers.
(Henry from Minneapolis, MN)
I referenced Kevin Appier on the radio today, but I seem to remember reading that Appier looked worse than he was according to people who study mechanics. Craig House was a weird one and washed out quickly.

Not to be a jerk, but if I'm the Diamondbacks, I ride this train very hard for as long as it runs. This could very well be a case where a guy is better in his 0-3 years than he his the rest of his career. (Joe Sheehan)
