2008 Rob Bell pitched well in Triple-A Norfolk, but had the same old ring in the majors; he refused a minor league assignment after the season, preferring to find another Triple-A shuttle to ride.
2005 Put Bell in the category of "live arms who never developed a credible second pitch." Every once in a while, a guy like this will get introduced to a new pitch or a new coach who can get through to him, and then he'll go all Esteban Loaiza on you. Most of the time they remain comfortably anonymous in the back of the rotation, in mop-up duty, or in the minors.
2003 Bellís days with the Ranger organization may be numbered: heís out of options, and heís not a good bet to stick with the big club the whole year. But if so he would be a worthwhile gamble for another team willing to try to resurrect the fallen prospectís career. Last yearís 6.22 ERA was brutal, but his peripherals paint a much brighter picture. His strikeout rate and strikeout-to-walk ratio were both better than league average, despite his pitching 60% of his innings in Arlington. Heíd be especially well-suited to a team like the Tigers, where the home park would help him keep the homers down.
2002 Doesnít it seem strange that a small-payroll team light on pitching and heavy on outfielders would trade a young power arm who isnít even arbitration-eligible for a struggling outfield prospect? Thatís what the Reds did when they dealt Bell to the Rangers for Ruben Mateo. Bellís subsequent performance indicates that maybe Jim Bowden hadnít gone on a YooHoo-and-Cuervo bender. In four months with Texas, Bell had command of his power curve for one inning. With that curveball in tow, Bell could become something special; without it, heís Mike Loynd.
2001 Despite a monthlong trip to Triple-A and a nasty bout with the long ball, Rob Bell had a very productive rookie season. He made every start without being overworked, stayed healthy, and, other than the home runs, actually pitched pretty well. His balky elbow is sound, so look for a step forward in 2001.
2000 Solely on ability, Bell is one of the best pitching prospects in baseball. That said, he spent about three months on the disabled list with a sore elbow, two words you do not want to hear in connection with a pitcher whose best pitch is a curveball. When Bell pitched, he was as effective as ever, but that elbow is a huge red flag. Look for him to have surgery before he reaches 200 major-league innings.
1999 Hereís the first of an amazing crop of pitching prospects who are beginning to emerge for the Braves. Bell has always had a good fastball, but he perfected an outstanding curve last season, leading the Bravesí minor league system in strikeouts while maintaining remarkable control for someone so young. The Reds did well to get him in the Neagle deal, as he may be their best prospect now. He averaged a tad over 26 batters per start, which is a little higher than youíd like to see from a 21 year old, but thatís not the Bravesí problem now.
1998 Bell, along with Bruce Chen and Jason Marquis, gave Macon three legitimate starter prospects in their rotation. Bell is a 1995 draftee with a good fastball. His improved changeup and command helped him post better numbers across the board. As is the Bravesí wont, all three were handled well, averaging right around 5 1/3 innings per start with just two complete games among them.

PITCHf/x Pitcher Profile

A Collaboration between BrooksBaseball.net and Baseball Prospectus - Pitch classifications provided by Pitch Info LLC

Although he has not thrown an MLB pitch in 2014, Rob Bell threw 366 pitches that were tracked by the PITCHf/x system in 2007, all of them occuring in the MLB Regular Season. In 2007, he relied primarily on his Fourseam Fastball (87mph), also mixing in a Curve (79mph). He also rarely threw a Sinker (85mph).
