2017-08-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)My farm consists of Gleyber Torres, Vlad Guerrero Jr, Franklin Barreto, Austin Meadows, Scott Kingery, Mickey Moniak, Blake Rutherford, Michael Kopech, Mitch Keller and Tyler Mahle. Plus recently graduated Amed Rosario, Bradley Zimmer and Clint Frazier. Is there any positions or areas I should focus on as I work to be competitive in 2019?
(Trip from SC)
Trip. Dude. You're kidding me, right? That is a ridiculous farm system, and seems pretty well-timed for your 2019 target date. I mean, really.

Just to be sure, I checked with Scooter Hotz of our prospects team. His take: "I agree with your assessment. I would also add that with prospects, donít worry about positional need. Focus on getting the best prospects regardless of position. If you end up with a surplus of players at a position in the majors, use the trade market to re-organize your roster positionally. That will give you more value than prioritizing positional need over getting the best player available."

(I will note that Scooter and I are in a fantasy league together. I've spent the entire year with a surplus of OFs and a lack of RPs, and he had a surplus of RPs and a lack of OFs, and we never got it together to make a trade. So do as we say, not as we do) (Rob Mains)
2017-04-28 13:30:00 (link to chat)Chris is jealous of my OFFICIA team's offensive prowess. My question: do you think the Phillies will baby Mickey Moniak? Should they?
(Zach G from New York)
He seems like a guy who should get a year at each level to me, hopefully will grow into a little more strength. If that's babying then yes and yes. (Craig Goldstein)
2017-04-28 13:30:00 (link to chat)How sad of a dynasty league team do you have if you've agreed to trade Brian Dozier and Dellin Betances for Mickey Moniak and Robert Gsellman?
(Zach G from OFFICIA)
You know those montages in sitcoms or dramedies where people walk around a park or a pier or sit on a bench and just like, contemplate life and how they've been led to this point? Maybe stare out a bay window as it rains and their coffee gets cold? Yeah. (Craig Goldstein)
2017-03-29 14:00:00 (link to chat)Juan Soto, Ronald Acuna or Mickey Moniak? Hunter Greene or Michael Kopech?
(RDBL2014 from San Francisco)
Soto in fantasy, Moniak in real life. Kopech for both because he's just closer. (Trevor Strunk)
2017-03-22 20:00:00 (link to chat)In the upcoming season for you when you are going to games who are you most excited to see in the Eastern & Sally Leagues?
(Leonard from None of Your Business)
Just my *home* teams project to have Gleyber Torres, Justus Sheffield, Mickey Moniak, probably Sixto Sanchez and/or Adonis Medina, maybe Jhailyn Ortiz or Kevin Gowdy, Jorge Mateo and James Kapielian within a month or two, and some other interesting arms. (Jarrett Seidler)
2017-03-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)How would you rank Mickey Moniak, Kyle Lewis, Ronald Acuna, and Juan Soto for their ultimate MLB projection, and why? Thank you!
(RDBL2014 from San Francisco)
Upside

Soto, Acuna, Lewis, Moniak

Surety

Lewis, Moniak, Soto, Acuna (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-03-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)Bret Sayre ranked Nick Senzel, Corey Ray, Zach Collins, Jason Groome, & Mickey Moniak as his Top 5 Dynasty Signees from 2016. Do you agree with this, or have a different viewpoint?
(Ron from Texarkana)
I think I prefer Lewis to Moniak, but totally reasonable to prefer Moniak until there's more clarity on how Lewis looks now. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-02-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)Trev my dude, what's your take on this Mickey Moniak everybody is so on about and should Phillies fans be concerned about the lack of prospects on Keith Law's manifesto
(The Dirty Inning is a great podcast from Philadelphia )
I agree with your screenname, listener!

And I think Moniak is probably going to be good. Whether he's very good or a star depends (sadly) on development, which is hard to gauge. As far as I can tell the Phils have a decent-if-not-elite milb development system, so I think Moniak has a good shot to reach his potential, which is a five-tool-center fielder.

And no, I don't think so. Law has many positive sides, but his list for the Phillies sort of shows a lack of recent scouting. Sixto Sanchez listed at 90-97, for instance, ignores that he sat 94-97 for the end of the season, which is a far different animal. There are others, but I don't want to pile on: suffice it to say, I think Law is too low ont he system (Trevor Strunk)
2017-01-18 20:00:00 (link to chat)Hearing a lot of buzz about Royce Lewis as a possible 1.1 candidate. Are you buying in?
(Jared from San Pedro, CA)
There are a ton of arms in the upcoming draft class, but there's definitely a chance Lewis is the most interesting bat on the prep side. Probably not a 1.1 guy, but then again, neither was Mickey Moniak. The draft is weird, man, and it's a long ways away. (Bret Sayre)
2016-09-29 13:00:00 (link to chat)Fantasy wise, I'm more bullish on Blake Rutherford than I am Clint Frazier. Can you touch on these two please?
(TrickDaddy14 from ytown)
I've long been the low man on Frazier; he cut me inline at Starbucks once and I never forgot it. No, not really. I just think he's gonna end up in left, and if he's in left, the bat has to max out. A nice prospect, but not an elite one for me. He did make some nice adjustments this year, though. On the other side, I've probably been higher than Rutherford than most; I thought he was a better prospect than Mickey Moniak for most of the year. There are three above-average tools and the hit might be plus, and I think he's going to be a solid right fielder. Frazier is the better fantasy prospect right now obviously because of proximity, but in terms of upside, I prefer Rutherford. (Christopher Crawford)
2016-08-05 13:00:00 (link to chat)What kind of Fantasy player can Mickey Moniak be? How much potential does he have?
(Tommy from NYC)
Moniak seems like the type of profile that will be better in actual baseball than fantasy baseball, as a large part of his value as a prospect is his ability to stick in centerfield. He can run, and scouts and evaluators like the hit tool at least, so maybe a lazy fantasy comp here is something like Manuel Margot. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2016-08-18 13:00:00 (link to chat)It seems like the 2017 draft class is loaded with arms. What hitters are in the 1-1 conversation? If you consider Hunter Greene a pitcher like most do, is Jeren Kendall the only hitter who is a 1-1 candidate?
(Greg from GA)
Kendall is the only hitter I could see going 1-1 right now, unless someone took a massive step forward next year. We've seen that in the past, though. Mickey Moniak and Dansby Swanson were never 1-1 candidates before the season. Jo Addell is the other guy I guess I could see entering that conversation, if someone thinks the hit tool is going to get to average. The rest of the tools could be plus. (Christopher Crawford)
2016-08-08 14:00:00 (link to chat)What kind of fantasy potential does Mickey Moniak have?
(Ben from DC)
Let's say everything breaks even. You're probably looking at a solid to first division outfielder who's going to hit for average, have some speed, and hit the ball over the fence every now and then. Should be a good contributor in most aspects of the game. He's good. (Nicolas Stellini)
