2017-04-05 23:00:00 (link to chat)Dynasty rebuild (25 man x 20 team) where prospects must be carried on roster. Which of the following acquired assets have highest upside/best chance to be "pillars" for the next championship?? ' Bats: Gallo, Josh Bell, Vlad Jr., Nick Williams, Brad Zimmer, Willy Adames, Mateo, Robles, Ames Rosario, Corey Ray Arms: Bundy, Reyes (post injury), Matt Manning, Sandy Alcantara, Walker Buehler
(Loria's Cousin Fazzie from Milwaukee,, Wi)
In terms of cornerstone ceiling, I'd put Gallo, Vlad Jr., Robles, and Reyes in that category of guys I could see topping out as top-50 players. Maybe Ray too? There's varying degrees of risk baked in there - for instance, Gallo's more likely Russell Branyan than he is Babe Ruth. Vlad Jr.'s like 11 and carries the associated developmental risk, etc. It's a solid collection of talent for a rebuild with a window 3-4 years out. (Wilson Karaman)
2017-01-18 20:00:00 (link to chat)Hey Bret, I could use some help on deep dynasty assets for a prospect draft. 20 team dynasty league, 150+ prospects owned. I have two upcoming picks and I've put together a list of 10 guys that I'm having a terrible time differentiating. My list is: Jake Bauers, Jahmai Jones, Lucas Erceg, Christin Stewart, Taylor Trammell, Alec Hansen, Walker Buehler, Sixto Sanchez, Justin Dunn, Sandy Alcantara I was thinking about one hitter and one pitcher but really I just want the two best values from that list. How would you rank the top 3-5 in case a few get taken between my picks? Obviously some of them are closer to the majors and some are much farther away which is why I'm struggling. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
(treynay3 from Grand Rapids)
I'd go Jones, Alcantara, Erceg, Dunn. (Bret Sayre)
2017-01-18 20:00:00 (link to chat)What is your opinion of Sandy Alcantara? Starter? Reliever?
(Blake from Med Hat)
Could be a pretty dynamic starter, but still a ways away. (Bret Sayre)
2016-08-11 14:00:00 (link to chat)Is Sandy Alcantara some kind of diamond in the rough? His name seems to be popping up a lot, recently..
(Ron from Texarkana)
I'm not sure he's a diamond in the rough. He's gotten a lot of love on this site, as he's shown some big, big stuff on the mound. The fact that he's in the Cardinals' system certainly helps. People rightly give St. Louis the benefit of the doubt when it comes to developing pitchers. (J.P. Breen)
2016-08-10 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who is the next big prospect nobody is talking about?
(Kyle from Tampa)
One of the guys I fought to include in our top 50 is Sandy Alcantara. He's another quality arm in the Cardinals system. He's gotten beat up in High-A since his promotion but he's 3 years younger than most of the league. The fastball is a 7 and has quality movement to it. The changeup features quality armspeed and he has feel for the pitch. The determining factor will be the curve but it has flashed average for me. If he continues to make adjustments you're looking at a possible #2 starter for the Cardinals in a couple of years. Watch out. (James Fisher)
2016-06-27 20:00:00 (link to chat)Higher ceiling: Sandy Alcantara or Junior Fernandez?
(James Fisher from Peoria, Ill)
Couple of question in the queue about Sandy Alcantara and Junior Fernandez so I'll tackle them together. I've seen them both and would take Sandy Alcantara if given the choice. He is the more projectable guy at this point and the command will come because the delivery is cleaner. (James Fisher)
2016-06-09 13:00:00 (link to chat)Has there been any news updates on Yadier Alvarez, and do you like him or Sandy Alcantara more for a dynasty league?
(Ron from Texarkana)
Haven't heard much on Alvarez lately. I'll probably take Alcantara right now because of less volatility but Alvarez much higher upside. (Christopher Crawford)
2016-05-31 19:00:00 (link to chat)Highest upside below AA, non Espinosa/Brendan Rodgers category
(Matt from San Diego )
There's a ton of guys below AA that I could go with here but I Sandy Alcantara has a chance to be a monster for the Cardinals. He's long, lean and still growing. The delivery is clean and he has a plus plus fastball with secondary offerings that grade out above average. (James Fisher)
