2016-06-20 16:00:00 (link to chat)Jacob Nottingham has started to hit as of late in AA. What should we be looking for out of his development this year & how does he compare with the other catcher prospects in your opinion?
(Alexei from At work)
Nottingham's development will hinder on if he can stay behind the plate or not. Otherwise he is just not that interesting as a prospect. Overall the minor league catching crop is weak...Francisco Mejia was supposed to be a guy at the top, Willson Contreras might not be an everyday catcher, Alfaro still frustrates, McGuire has a light bat, Gary Sanchez might not catch either. If a guy has offensive potential they might move that player quickly off catching because its a longer track with a lot of bad directions it could take. (Steve Givarz)

(Alexei from At Work)
Heard some solid things about recent adjustments with the bat that've born out in his production, so all appears to be progressing there. Growth with the glove is the big thing, and those reports have been less impressive. I liked the raw materials I saw for him to develop into an average glove back there - big body he controlled reasonably well, if stiffly (is that a word? Let's agree that's a word). I'm still of the opinion that he'll be competent enough back there that if his bat gets to where it can he'll stick.

I don't have big questions with the bat. The big thing for me is defensively. More positive reports about the glove. I haven't gotten a ton of those in 2016. (Christopher Crawford)
2016-06-16 21:00:00 (link to chat)Is Jacob Nottingham, valuable dynasty prospect, still a thing?
(bradmorgan27 from DC)
Absolutely still a thing. (Bret Sayre)
2016-06-16 21:00:00 (link to chat)Jacob Nottingham future top 5 Catcher?
(Tim from NY)
Certainly could be if he plays up to his potential. (Bret Sayre)
2015-12-01 14:00:00 (link to chat)Hi Chris, Who do you consider the best catching prospect in baseball, mainly as a hitter, but good enough defensively to guarantee staying behind the dish?
(Cal Guy from Cal)
Boy, "guaranteeing" someone will stick behind the plate right now is tough. I would probably go Alfaro or Willson Contreras. Maybe Jacob Nottingham belongs in that discussion, too. (Christopher Crawford)
2015-09-30 19:00:00 (link to chat)Who's your favorite or the most interesting catching prospect right now?
(Bryan G. from Temporarily, Colorado)
There are two guys who really showed up on the scene and made a name for themselves. Jacob Nottingham in Oakland showed the ability to be a serious contributor on offense and defense. Strong, big but athletic body with real power projection and a strong arm. Has real chops for catching.

Willson Contreras is the other guy that I've heard a lot of great things about. I saw him in Kane County back when his game was immature and he was more athletic than skilled. Now he's grown into his skillset some more and he's inspired some absolutely silly grades on his athleticism and hitting ability.

Those are the two guys who are going to be near the top of C prospect lists in my opinion. (Mauricio Rubio)
2015-08-13 20:00:00 (link to chat)So everyone has been talking about the success of recent graduates from the farm. But what about the rise of some other prospects such as A.J. Reed & Jacob Nottingham (before I shipped him for Kazmir). Care to give an opinion on these 2 players going forward?
(JL from HOU)
Love Nottingham, think he has as much upside as any catcher in the minors except Alfaro if both his hit and power tools travel to the bigs. He's been amazing all year and, in case you haven't noticed, I'm a sucker for the super athletic types...which brings me to Reed. Did you know he closed in college? Probably. I somehow didn't until recently. Reed will hit bombs. (Greg Wellemeyer)
2015-07-23 17:00:00 (link to chat)Any non-top100 prospects that you have your eye on in fantasy? Maybe some guys that, even if owned, could be acquired cheaply in dynasty leagues and you think could be impact guys in deep leagues in the future. Any names?
(Nathan from Indiana)
Gilbert Lara and Victor Robles are the two names that the BP fantasy guys (who are almost all better at the deeper farm stuff than I am) are constantly gushing over and who I would tend to agree are potential risers. The guy who was traded to the Athletics today - Jacob Nottingham - is a really good guy to grab if he's available in your league. (Mike Gianella)
2015-07-01 13:00:00 (link to chat)Do you know anything about Jacob Nottingham? Can he catch and will the bat stick?
(Dave from Houston)
Just got promoted to Lancaster, I'll see him next week for the first time. They were working him much more regularly at first base, and I'm assuming after A.J. Reed's no-really-it-was-time promotion that'll continue to be the case at Lancaster. He certainly did some interesting things to Midwest League pitching in the first half. (Wilson Karaman)
