DateQuestionAnswer
2014-10-14 18:00:00 (link to chat)Clint Frazier has not performed to the level that I expected from the 5th pick in the 2013 MLB draft. Was he overrated going into the draft?
(cracker73 from Florida)
Regarding Frazier, teenagers are a lot like criminals: don't give up on them, but don't trust them either. Frazier has an added whammy as being red-headed, but a baseball hat will cover most of that up. I don't know how many teams put stock into numbers of a prospect's first full season, but rather mechanics and process. Stay believin'. (Matt Sussman)
2014-10-09 15:00:00 (link to chat)Was Clint Frazier overrated going into the 2013 MLB draft? He has certainly underwhelmed for being the 5th overall pick.
(cracker73 from Florida)
I don't think he's underwhelmed, nor do I think he was that overrated. I liked him quite a bit this season. (Jordan Gorosh)
2014-09-03 14:00:00 (link to chat)Give us some prospects you're higher on than anyone else, so later we can mock/applaud you. Thanks!
(Chris from Michigan)
Still a believer in Clint Frazier. I was on the Jake Thompson/Willy Adames bandwagon pre season. I also like David Dahl a lot. Some other names I like more than others: Leonardo Molina, Rafael Devers, Cameron Varga, Brett Phillips, Kohl Stewart. (Jordan Gorosh)
2014-09-03 14:00:00 (link to chat)What is a fair MLB comparison for Clint Frazier?
(Brian from FL)
I hate making comps. Weirdly enough, Rusney Castillo isn't a terrible one. (Jordan Gorosh)
2014-07-22 15:00:00 (link to chat)What do you think of Clint Frazier as the year has gone on? He seems to have finally gotten comfortable and finally started to show the promise we were all hoping for.
(Derek from Ohio)
I understand that he's made some changes in his swing, and that's not surprising. There have been some knocks on Frazier's makeup, which I've never seen on the field, to be fair. He's a red-ass player.

At the plate, he's going to need to lay off spin, especially low and away. He was getting carved up. I don't think it's a recognition issue, but instead, he knows he can drive balls out, and was too aggressive at first. All prospects have to go through an adjustment phase at some point, and you were seeing that in Low-A for Clint. He's since gone on a tear, and all the sudden, has an OPS about 75 points above league average-- the MWL is not friendly to hitters, especially in the early months. (Jordan Gorosh)
2014-07-07 11:00:00 (link to chat)Clint Frazier was #36 on the preseason 101. Nowhere to be found on the Top 50. What changed?
(SkatingTripods from Cleveland)
He hasn't played well and the makeup reports could be better (Jason Parks on the Top 50)
2014-07-07 11:00:00 (link to chat)I'm curious about the exclusion of Clint Frazier on the list. Do you think it may be a little harsh to say he hasn't performed when he's only 19 years old? Not trying to be mean or anything Jason, and I fully respect your work and think you're the best source for information like this on the web, but it just seems like Appel gets a free pass, but Frazier doesn't. Different players, so it may be wrong for me to compare these two. Maybe the best question is, can you expand on the concerns you have about his makeup reports? Thanks Jason for doing these awesome chats, and I hope you don't take my question the wrong way.
(Jim from Chicago)
It's not harsh if he hasn't performed. That's just a reality. This was a top tier pick in the draft and a big swinging dick on the backfields. Him not hitting is a legit thing to question.

He's a confident kid that walks the line with being overly cocky. Makeup is often viewed as a personality trait, and perhaps on some level that plays an inherent role. But I see makeup as the willingness and the ability to make adjustments through instruction and hard work. Frazier's a guy who can rub people the wrong way, and I'm sure that plays a role in some of the reports I have received. But despite his shaky start, he was still in the mix for the top 50, which should speak to his tools and ultimate upside. (Jason Parks on the Top 50)
2014-07-08 13:00:00 (link to chat)Any concerns about Clint Frazier performance this year?
(scott from az)
You never want to see a top prospect struggle, but Frazier was also never expected to be a fast mover, so hiccups were expected. If he doesn't show some signs of improvement in the second half -- which we've already seen hints of -- then I may start to wonder. (Mark Anderson)
2014-07-03 19:00:00 (link to chat)Is there a minor league position player whose tools you love, but is not showing up in the stat line yet?
(Joe Random from San Jose)
Clint Frazier is giving me a sad right now. Albert Almora is coming around but he's still not there yet production wise. (Mauricio Rubio)
2014-06-24 13:00:00 (link to chat)Any player you fought hard for to be included in the #BPtop50, but were vetoed?
(JoeRandom from San Jose)
Nope, but I fought for Clint Frazier to stay in the top 50, despite the struggles so far in the first 60 games. Spoiler: he's staying in. (Jordan Gorosh)
2014-05-30 12:00:00 (link to chat)Michael Gettys is better than Clint Frazier, true or false?
(Kevin from Minnesota)
False. Michael Gettys could be developed into a better player in time? True. (Pre-Draft Chat with Nick J. Faleris)
2014-04-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)Mark, I get frightened when I look at the Indians' relatively thin pool of future prospects - a lot of guys who could be solid contributors, but outside of Lindor nothing with real all star potential. Who is a player or two from the system who could potentially outplay their projections?
(Nick from Southern California)
I think it is understandable that you are concerned. Clint Frazier and Francisco Mejia provide some very intriguing upside, but both have considerable risk as well. (Mark Anderson)
2014-04-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)Which player in the lower minors now exicte you the most with power and speed?
(Chris from Phoenix)
Clint Frazier. I'm really excited to see what this kid can do over the next year or two as he adjusts to the pro game. (Mark Anderson)
2014-04-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)What's your best guess on the first date of Major Leaue ABs for Clint Frazier and Jorge Alfaro? thanks!
(conjoinedtwins from Quebec)
Frazier will require at least a couple of years in the minor leagues, possibly more. I think you're looking at 2016 at the earliest.

Alfaro very well could debut this year, but won't make it far into the 2015 season before he debuts. (Mark Anderson)
2014-03-19 20:00:00 (link to chat)Who would you choose for both short and long term, Gray or Appel? and how good is Clint Fraizer going to be?
(Kevin from PENN)
Gray for both over Appel, but it's close. In some ways it's just a matter of risk preference. And as far as Clint Frazier, he's going to be somewhere between a demigod and a unicorn. (Bret Sayre)
2014-03-19 20:00:00 (link to chat)Please talk more about Clint Frazier. We love him. Throw us a realistic expectation of what you expect from him at the MLB level
(CharlieWerner from Manayunk Pa)
Frazier could be a near .300 hitter with 30 homers and 20-plus steals. It's not the most likely outcome in the world, but his ceiling is elite. (Bret Sayre)
2014-03-27 13:00:00 (link to chat)Does Clint Frazier reach AA this season?
(BOSSHOG from Texas)
There's a chance but I wouldn't bank on a 20-year-old reaching Double-A in his first full season, Bosshog. (R.J. Anderson)
2014-03-24 13:00:00 (link to chat)I picked up Julio Urias in the 35th round of a 15 team league. I'll be able to keep him at a 4 round penalty per year through 2017. Did I do the right thing? Was also considering Clint Frazier with that same pick.
(Vic from Baltimore)
Without knowing everyone that was available, it's OK. It's just a matter of when he can get there and start delivering. But a 31 and 27 as you wait isn't egregious (Paul Sporer)
2014-03-21 14:00:00 (link to chat)Hi Ronit, Who has the higher ceiling and what are their ETA's- Frazier and Dahl?
(Cal Guy from Cal)
Both are just getting started in pro ball, so it's hard to nail down an ETA, but I'll say 2016. Even though we ranked Clint Frazier higher on the top 101, give me David Dahl. The guy is a toolbox. (Ronit Shah)
2014-02-26 19:00:00 (link to chat)Really appreciate the chat! Who are some guys you would target after the first 15 or so picks in a rookie draft(that includes international players). I have picks 17 and 18. Would you try to package them together to move up a bit? Thanks
(Mill from Lodi)
Assuming you mean rookie draft as in new signees to an established dynasty league I think outside of the top 6 guys:

Kris Bryant, Jose Abreu, Masahiro Tanaka, Clint Frazier, Jonathan Gray, Mark Appel

it gets really clogged in the middle. I would trade the lower picks to get into the top 6 because you're talking about guys like Colin Moran and Austin Meadows down there. It's ok, but not ideal. (Mauricio Rubio)
2014-02-26 19:00:00 (link to chat)Thanks for doing the chat, Mauricio. Could you rank these OF based on offensive production five years from now - Christian Yelich, Gregory Polanco, Albert Almora, Clint Frazier, David Dahl.
(Luke from Schenectady)
Yellich - Frazier - Dahl - Almora - Polanco, but I think it's tight. (Mauricio Rubio)
2014-02-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)Joc Pederson: the numbers in the minors sure look good. In a pts. league where walks matter, would you pass on him to go after a Clint Frazier or a Dahl?
(balticwolf from Silver Spring MD)
I'd go for the much-closer Joc over the other two, even though they might have a touch higher ceiling (Paul Sporer)
2014-03-03 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is Clint Frazier someone you think can take a huge step forward this year into one of the top prospects in baseball? Top 10?
(Evan from California )
He has that potential with the bat, yes. Huge bat speed. (Jason Parks on the Completed Prospect Rankings)
2014-01-27 13:00:00 (link to chat)What are the odds of Clint Frazier making the overall top 10 prospect list next year ?
(Spirou from Montreal)
It's quite possible. (Jason Parks on the Top 101 Prospects)
2014-01-29 19:00:00 (link to chat)I have 5 dynasty league minor league slots, the first 4 are filled by Javier Baez, Miguel Sano, Kris Bryant, and Gregory Polanco. Who should I choose for my last spot between Clint Frazier and Jorge Alfaro?
(CharlieWerner from Manayunk PA)
I have them ranked fairly closely to one another. I'll say Frazier, but barely. (Ben Carsley)
2014-02-10 13:00:00 (link to chat)Keeper league draft where I need OF/P since I already have 2 MiLB top 10 infielders. Guys available in the range I'll draft: Marcus Stroman, Andrew Heaney, Alex Meyer, Clint Frazier, Joc Pedersen. Anyone jump out at you?
(RWarriors13 from Illinois)
My man-crush on Marcus Stroman has been pretty well documented. I'm driving the Stroman-as-a-Starter bus. (Jeff Moore)
2014-02-10 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who would you rather own in a Dynasty League, Lucas Giolito or Clint Frazier? Who do you think reaches the bigs first?
(Guest from my cubicle)
I could see Giolito moving fast once he hits full-season ball, but both are still too far away to put that exact of a timetable on them. I'd take Giolito though for the upside. (Jeff Moore)
2014-01-06 13:00:00 (link to chat)Clint Frazier and Austin Meadows, two eighteen year old 2013 first round draft picks, both played CF in their Minor League baseball debut seasons. Looking in your crystal ball, which is more likely to still be playing center when they make their Major League debuts?
(Paul from DC)
As Jason Parks wrote about Frazier in our Indians Top-10 in November, “sources are mixed on his ability to stick up the middle.” Of the two, Frazier is the better prospect but Meadows probably has the better chance to stick in center. (Jeff Moore)
2014-01-10 13:00:00 (link to chat)I have 3 top picks in the 1st round of my upcoming draft. In a vaccum, which 3 would you take for a 18 keeper league and in which order? Tanaka, Lucas Giolito, Clint Frazier, Jonathan Gray, Jose Abreu, Rougund Odor, Rymer Lirano, or Mark Appel?
(vegetto712 from Florida)
From a prospect perspective, your top three there are Giolito, Gray and Appel. (Mark Anderson)
2013-11-25 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is Clint Frazier an elite, possible top 10 prospect, or the best of a mediocre draft?
(Rich from Evanston)
I think this year's HS class is stronger, but I think its premature to discount the 2013 draft class. There are a lot of really strong players in that class. As for Frazier, I think he's a very, very good prospect; possibly a top 25 type. I don't think he's a top 10 guy yet, but he has the tools to get that high. (Jason Parks)
2013-11-19 13:00:00 (link to chat)I've got a minor league draft for a keeper league coming up, and I know I'll be choosing between Jonathan Gray, Kohl Stewart, Eddie Butler, Garin Cecchini, Clint Frazier, Tyler Glasnow. My team is in a win over the next 2-3 years type mode, which of the 6 do you prefer, or if it is close between a few guys, why? Thanks!
(TommyC from Illinois)
Frazier. Love me some Clint Frazier. (Bret Sayre)
2013-10-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who will be a better pro: Clint Frazier or Kris Bryant?
(Nick from Farmington)
Two of my favorites, so this is a brutal question. Bryant is closer so I'll have to go with him. (Harry Pavlidis)
