2014-07-08 13:00:00 (link to chat)Where would you rank Nick Gordon among Twins prospects right now? Do you see him as a fast mover, or will the Twins take their usual slow approach with him?
(Jim from St Paul)
I don't see the Twins altering their typical developmental strategies for Gordon. He's a really nice player and one of their top prospects right out of the gate, but I don't think you'll see him forcing an accelerated timeline like Buxton has done.

As far as where he ranks in the system, I'd put him in the 5-6 range behind Buxton, Meyer, Sano, and Stewart. At least initially, and because I'm a fan of Berrios, I would be more inclined to place him 6th. (Mark Anderson)
2014-06-24 13:00:00 (link to chat)What kind of Potential does Nick Gordon have?
(Russ from Minnesota)
Nick Gordon looks to be an every day SS at the major league level, and I actually had a scout compare his skillset to that of Steven Drew. He's a consummate pro with good makeup, chops to stick at SS, with the ability to play the position at a plus level, and may end up with a solid average hit tool and average big league power. He's likely a "50/55's across the board" type, as opposed to anything impact. (Jordan Gorosh)
2014-06-09 12:00:00 (link to chat)Does Nick Gordon wind up an Alexei Ramirez bat? +/-?
(Drew from Mpls)
I think the OBP profile could be better and the power could resemble early-MLB career Ramirez. (Draft Wrap Chat with Nick J. Faleris)
2014-06-05 14:00:00 (link to chat)Who are some top position players on the board?
(Frank from New Orleans)
I assign a price tag to each of my top 180 or so draft targets. The top five for me in order are Alex Jackson (C, Rancho Bernardo (San Diego, CA)), Nick Gordon (SS, Olympia (Orlando, FL)), Michael Chavis (3B/2B, Sprayberry (Marietta, GA)), Braxton Davidson (1B, TC Roberson (Asheville, NC)), and Derek Hill (CF, Elk Grove (Elk Grove, CA)). I'd be shocked if those were the first four position players off the board considering none are collegians. (Draft Day Chat with Nick J. Faleris)
2014-06-05 14:00:00 (link to chat)JP Crawford or Nick Gordon? Any similarities?
(DH from Pittsburgh)
Crawford is more tools and promise; Gordon is refinement. Not many similarities to my mind, no. (Draft Day Chat with Nick J. Faleris)
2014-06-05 14:00:00 (link to chat)Can you tell me about Nick Gordon's offensive potential?
(Myrick from Charleston, SC)
Potential plus hit tool, maybe better depending on how you view the added strength this spring, with a chance for average power if he gets a little more loft in the barrel. Could sacrifice some average for power, or pump the hit in exchange for closer to 40/45 pop on the 20-80 scale. Solid range of outcomes and has the feel for the game and make-up to take in instruction and reach that potential. (Draft Day Chat with Nick J. Faleris)
2014-06-05 14:00:00 (link to chat)If you were giving a future role grade to Nick Gordon, what would it be? Is he a first-division talent? I know comps are hard, but just for fun, any decent current ML comps?
(danrnelson from MPLS)
First division talent. Potential above-average regular at a high skill position with a 65/50 hit/power ceiling. That's not the most likely outcome, but it's pretty impressive upside. (Draft Day Chat with Nick J. Faleris)
2014-06-05 14:00:00 (link to chat)Which players drafted today could we see up in the Majors before the end of the season?
(Sheila from Daly City, CA)
Most likel options would be Nick Burdi, Nick Howard, Aaron Nola, maybe Brandon Finnegan.

Nick Gordon going fifth overall to the Twins. (Draft Day Chat with Nick J. Faleris)
2014-05-30 12:00:00 (link to chat)Nick, if Cubs draft Nick Gordon next week, do you think it is a reach? Most people say he can't hit, is it true?
(Cubsfan from Chicago)
Gordon struggled to make hard contact last summer and through the fall but has been a different guy this spring after putting on some muscle and starting to wield the barrel with more authority. It wouldn't be a reach to pop him at 4th overall, though I'd hope to save around $1 MM in cap space if I'm doing that. (Pre-Draft Chat with Nick J. Faleris)
2013-11-05 13:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Nick Gordon and questions regarding his hit tool ?
(Derek from Florida)
I'd like to see Gordon in the spring before killing the hit tool. This summer/fall he's been extending early, putting more heave and less drive into the barrel, which has resulted in missed barrels and a lot of balls being driven into the dirt in front of home. He needs to get a little stronger and get back to a more compact barrel delivery -- if he does there's a potential plus hit tool there. (Nick J. Faleris)
2013-05-30 13:30:00 (link to chat)Have you ever seen hs ss Nick Gordon play? If so, what are your thoughts? Thank you very much.
(Jay from Northridge)
I haven't seen him play live but I have heard lots of good things from scouts in that area. He's an athletic kid with very good instincts for the game and he's not short on tools either. He's going to be a high selection in next year's draft. (Mark Anderson)
2013-01-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who is the #2 guy for 2014 (assuming Rodon is 1), Jeff Hoffman?
(Daniel from Cambridge)
Sure, along with other super early candidates, like Alex Jackson (Rancho Bernardo HS, Calif.), Derek Fisher (UVA), Aaron Nola (LSU), and Nick Gordon (Olympia HS, Fla.)? (Nick Faleris)
2012-11-29 13:00:00 (link to chat)Favorite 2014 draft prospects from WWBA in Jupiter ?
(John from Florida)
Loved the WWBA tourney run by Perfect Game, John. have attended it numerous times. I ended up liking the underclassmen as much as the 2013 players. Loved RHP Touki Toussaint the best of anyone there. Also liked Nick Gordon, Justus Sheffield, Grant Hockin, Kei Johnson, Jonah Patton, Cobi Johnson, Dalton Guthrie, and Partick Wiseman. Loved Dazmon Cameron from the 2015 class, chance to be an exceptional player and has great parents. (Dan Evans)
