Tater Trot Tracker: Trot Times for May 14 |
The tater trots for May 14: Bryce Harper's first career home run, plus trots from Hanley Ramirez, Placido Polanco, and Gregor Blanco.
The big news last night was that Bryce Harper, in his fifteenth game, finally hit his first career home run. He then proceeded to race around the bases in a decidedly "Old School Baseball"-type of way, finishing with the second fastest trot of the season so far. There are more details about it here. Harper wasn't the only player to hit a home run last night (in fact, he wasn't the only player to even hit his first career home run last night), so let's get right to the trots!

Tater Trot Tracker: Bryce Harper's First Career Home Run |
Bryce Harper finally hit his first career home run Monday night, and didn't waste any time getting around the bases.
Ever since Bryce Harper's Sports Illustrated cover story at the age of 15, there's been a lot of talk about the phenom—and two topics especially: how good is this kid really going to be? and how cocky can he be? From obnoxious tweets to scary eye-black to a few blown kisses during a minor league tater trot, the second question seemed like it might be the more controversial one.

The tater trots for May 13: Giancarlo Stanton and Joey Votto give their mothers quite the Mother's Day gift.
It wasn't the best Mother's Day for the moms on the Sunday night block of "Game of Thrones" and "Mad Men", but it was a pretty nice day for baseball moms. Especially the mothers of Giancarlo Stanton and Joey Votto.

The tater trots for May 11: Josh Hamilton's two home runs, Carlos Beltran's two home runs, and whole bunch more.
It was a very busy night Friday night. Overall, 42 home runs were hit. Among those were a pinch-hit grand slam, a game-tying ninth-inning blast, four multi-home run games, and an extra-innings go-ahead shot. Oh, and Josh Hamilton hit two more home runs. No lack excitement last night, that's for sure.

The tater trots for May 10: a lot of excitement in the Orioles/Rangers doubleheader.
If it's not one thing, it's another. On Tuesday, Josh Hamilton hit four home runs in a game. On Wednesday, despite only a few home runs being hit, we still got to see Matt Joyce run out his trot after falling down with a twisted ankle at the plate - in less than 30 seconds! For Thursday, we were given back-to-back-to-back home runs by the Orioles to start the game. Overall, the Orioles had five hits in the game, with all five hits clearing the fences. The only game to see a team have more than five home runs when they had no singles, doubles, or triples was when the Indians did it to the Rangers in 1989. The Indians had six hits and six home runs that day and Joe Carter had three of them. It goes to show that you just don't know what's going to happen, especially when the Rangers are involved!

Tater Trot Tracker: Trot Times for May 9 |
The tater trots for May 9: compared to previous injured trots, Matt Joyce's twisted ankle trot was still remarkably quick, even if it is the slowest trot of the year.
The next night after a big home run day like Tuesday's is always a letdown. From Josh Hamilton's four home runs to only twelve home runs hit leaguewide? Yeah, that's going to feel a bit boring. And it might even be a legitimate feeling - if it weren't for one special trot last night.

Tater Trot Tracker: Trot Times for May 8 (or, The Josh Hamilton Show) |
The tater trots for May 8 were dominated by Josh Hamilton's four home runs versus the Orioles in Baltimore.
The night was dominated by one ultra-rare occurrence that had only happened 15 times before: Cesar Izturis's home run for the Brewers, the 16th home run of his career. I suppose a few people were also talking about the four home runs Josh Hamilton put up against the Baltimore Orioles last night, too.

The tater trots for May 6 & 7: fun home runs from Albert Pujols, Adam Jones, David Ortiz, Jordany Valdespin.
Boy, did I miss a bad day or two to skip the Tater Trot Tracker. Let's not waste any more time. Let's get to the (Sunday and Monday) trots!

The tater trots from Thursday through Saturday.
The Tater Trot Tracker has been out of commission for the last couple of days. Apologies for that. Thankfully, we haven't missed all that much. Bryce Harper and Albert Pujols are still homerless. There were no inside-the-park home runs or other shenanigans on the field. There were a few walkoff home runs, which are always fun to watch, and a handful of first career home runs. Hey, not all weekends can give us games for the ages.

Tater Trot Tracker: Trot Times for May 2 |
The tater trots for May 2: a wild, wild night for all of baseball, with Chipper Jones' walkoff home run the most memorable of the night.
An absolutely wild day in baseball for home runs (and everything else, really). Not only did we have two home runs helping Jered Weaver take a big 9-0 lead en route to his first career no-hitter, we also had wackiness everywhere. Four different players hit two home runs last night, including Chris Johnson and Kyle Seager. Three different players hit walkoff home runs, including ancientold guys like Chipper Jones and Jason Giambi. And then there was the tenth-inning go-ahead homer by Giancarlo Stanton, the sixth home run of the year for Adam Dunn, Edwin Encarnacion's league-leading ninth home run...

The tater trots for May 1: Brett Lawrie's walkoff and Dee Gordon gets his first career home run.
Apologies for the late Tater Trot Tracker update from yesterday. All home runs are now updated. Tuesday saw yet another homerless day for both Bryce Harper and Albert Pujols. Here's a good question: who gets their first home run first, Pujols or Harper (and you can even throw in Trout if you want)? As fun as it might be for Harper to long first, I want and expect it to be Pujols.
