April 21, 2013
There have been a lot of zeroes put up on the board so far in 2013.
Earlier today, the Mets shut out the Nationals 2-0 marking the 49th time in the young 2013 season that a baseball team has failed to score in a game. If that seems like a high number, it is. Since the league last expanded in 1998, the most amount of shutouts in a season's first full month is 52 which happened in the 2011 season. The fewest amount of shutouts happened in 2000 when there were just 29 shutouts in the first full month of that season.

Trot Times for April 20
The tater trots for April 20, capped off by Daniel Nava's emotional home run at Fenway Park.
It was an emotional day in Boston that was capped in a near-storybook fashion. Let's get right to the trots.
Desmond Jennings Doesn't Need Your Assistance
About the rare 8-unassisted double play.
It's been a weekend of weird plays. On Friday night, Jean Segura did something so strange we literally didn't have a way to score it. And on Saturday, Rays center fielder Desmond Jennings caught a Coco Crisp fly ball, then doubled Eric Sogard off first. All by himself.

The Startlingly Selective Yuniesky Betancourt
Has Yuniesky Betancourt left his free-swinging ways behind?
When the Phillies offered Yuniesky Betancourt an invitation to spring training, we wondered why a team would give even a non-guaranteed contract to a player whose career stats suggested he was without any upside. When Betancourt hit .446/.450/.625 in spring training and landed a major-league contract with Milwaukee, we wondered A) why teams allow themselves to be seduced by spring statistics and B) what it is about Betancourt that makes teams who’ve already seen him firsthand for full seasons decide to bring him back for more. When we last saw Betancourt in the big leagues, he was getting released by the Royals. It was fair to wonder why he’d be any better at age 31 than he was during his replacement-level prime.

Home Run of the Day: Todd Frazier, Cincinnati Reds - 22.18 seconds [video]
Serving as the Reds batboy on Thursday, Kremer asked for two things — 11 strikeouts for free pizza and a Todd Frazier home run. He got both.
