January 16, 2013 BP UnfilteredDaily Draft Video: Nick Longhi Daily exclusive video series designed to familiarize you with the names you need to know leading up to the 2013 amateur draft.
Nick Longhi (1B/OF/LHP), out of Venice High School (Venice, FL), is a pure hitter with early-round upside. Longhi’s compact and impactful stroke is geared to spraying linedrives from gap to gap, with enough emerging power for him to project to a corner without issue. Defensively, Longhi likely fits best at first base due to his well below-average footspeed. He could get the opportunity to play both ways if he forgoes the start of his pro career and tackles college ball, as a workable arm on the mound that has reached 91 in the past. Today’s video is from the 2013 Perfect Game World Showcase, held at Terry Park in Ft. Myers, Florida. Longhi is an LSU commit and plays for the FTB Mizuno travel squad. Wezen-BallAn Ultimate Road Trip An early attempt at everyone's dream.
Chuck Laterza had a dream. In 1980, the Ohio man envisioned the ultimate baseball road trip. What could be better than a group of self-proclaimed baseball junkies road-tripping across the Ohio River Valley together and seeing ten games in ten different cities in ten days? Laterza loved the idea so much that, with a small ad in the Sporting News that spring, he arranged for it to happen. For $849, participants would travel over 3,000 miles together in a bus, seeing games in cities from Chicago to Boston, and Detroit to Baltimore, and everything in-between. They would spend nights in motels along the way, except for two all-night bus rides, and even stop off at historic attractions such as the Baseball Hall of Fame and the Babe Ruth Shrine in Baltimore. There was even some early talk on visiting retired players in their homes. January 15, 2013 BP UnfilteredDaily Draft Video: Malik Collymore Daily exclusive video series designed to familiarize you with the names you need to know leading up to the 2013 amateur draft.
Malik Collymore (SS/2B), out of Port Credit Secondary School (Mississauga, ON), is a potential early round candidate that could grow into an offensive force at the collegiate level. The six-foot, 190 pound infielder creates good leverage in his swing and already boasts solid pull-side power while showing an ability to drive the oppo gap. Collymore should get every chance to stick in the infield, but possesses enough athleticism and foot speed to shift to an outfield corner down the line, if needed. Today’s video is from the 2013 Perfect Game World Showcase, held at Terry Park in Ft. Myers, Florida. Collymore is an NC State commit and plays for the Ontario Blue Jays travel squad. January 14, 2013 BP UnfilteredDaily Draft Video: Dustin Hagy Daily exclusive video series designed to familiarize you with the names you need to know leading up to the 2013 amateur draft.
Dustin Hagy (C), out of Deltona Christian Academy (Deltona, FL), has seen his velocity climb over the past 12 months, with his fastball now routinely breaking 90 mph and bumping up to 92. The six-foot-six righty also shows a solid 11-to-5 curve that can come soft in the low-70s or with harder action in the 77-78 mph range. Hagy will turn over a change-up, as well, with some fade. Today’s video is from the 2013 Perfect Game World Showcase, held at Terry Park in Ft. Myers, Florida. BP Daily PodcastEffectively Wild Episode 118: All About Pitchouts!
