Dynasty Dynamics: Ignore the Trades

2

Ben Carsley

Your top fantasy prospect has just switched organizations in real life. How much should you panic? These six scenarios could act as your guide.

Ryan McMahon just got traded for Tyler Glasnow. Not really, but stay with me.

Dynasty Dynamics: The Saddest Milestone

Jesse Winker brings it all back for Ben's dynasty team.

Where were you Monday when Jesse Winker was called up to the majors in enough time for me to set my weekly roster for The Dynasty Guru Experts (#TDGX) dynasty league?

Dynasty Dynamics: Checking on Some Prospect Sleepers

1

Ben Carsley

Bo Bichette continues to look like the real deal. Others, such as Yeyson Yrizarri, look to be in trouble.

Ah, late May, one of the more awkward times in the dynasty calendar. If your team is good, you’re likely trying to prey on would-be contenders who are realizing they need to pack it up. If your team is awful, you’re likely getting a head start on scouting the 2017 crop of prospects. If you’re stuck in the middle, well, you know you have about 6-8 weeks left to make some big decisions.

Because we’re sort of in no-man’s land, it is be a good time to look in on a few of my favorite dynasty sleepers from the “next 112” list I published in mid-March. Are the samples too small to draw super-meaningful conclusions? Of course. But since these guys were sort of on the periphery of fantasy relevance in most leagues anyway, we can be a little quicker to cut bait or invest than we would be with more-established names.

Dynasty Dynamics: What Goes Down Can Come Up

6

Ben Carsley

Six dynasty prospects, three different trends. Where do they stand now, a few weeks into the new season?

This one’s simple. Let’s take an early look at six dynasty prospects who had their arrows pointed down when we unveiled our rankings earlier this offseason, and look at a pair who are well on their way to resurrection, two who look pretty cooked and a couple who still fall somewhere in between. Just a check-up, really.

Also, I’m only going to write this caveat once: The samples are small. You know they’re small, because you have a firm grasp on how the calendar works. If you are reading a piece about developing trends and May and are going to say, “but small-sample size,” stop reading pieces about trends in May.

Dynasty Dynamics: Should You (Try and) Trade (for) Starling Marte?

10

Ben Carsley

Making the most of Marte, who has been suspended for 80 games because of PEDs.

Starling Marte is suspended. From baseball. For 80 games. He did the steroids.

If you own Marte in redraft leagues, this is extremely bad. Odds are he was your second- or third-round pick. At best, he’ll probably end up playing in about 60 games this season. And you can’t even stash him on the DL. You are, to use an industry term, screwed.

Dynasty Dynamics: Six (Slightly) Delayed Gratification Prospects

11

Ben Carsley

Fantasy help might be on the way soon in the form of top prospects who didn't quite make the big leagues out of spring training.

So it’s the first week of the season, and that promising rookie you snagged thinking he’d win a job in spring training is back in the minors. It happens to all of us. Veterans beat out rookies for jobs. Teams want to manipulate service clocks. Prospects look terrible in meaningless spring games. Injuries pop up. The reasons go on and on.

The good news? Not every prospect who fails to make his big-league club on Opening Day will be subject to a half-season or more of MiLB action. Here are six recently demoted top-101 guys I’m fairly confident you’ll be able to use in advance of the Super Two deadline in mid-June or, at the very least, near that benchmark. They’re sort of in order of how likely I think it is they reach the Majors soonish. Sort of. Enjoy.

Dynasty Dynamics: The Next 112

26

Ben Carsley

Why stop at 101 prospects when you can rank 213?

101 is an arbitrary number. Every year, the Baseball Prospectus Fantasy Team puts out a top-101 prospects list, and then Bret Sayre and I follow suit with top-101 dynasty prospect lists of our own. It’s a slight deviation on the industry-standard “top-100” you see around the web, but the truth is it often makes little sense to stop (or to extend to) a nice round number.

Dynasty Dynamics: What the Hell Is Happening: AL Edition

3

Ben Carsley

These four junior-circuit players have risen from anonymity to prominence, but should we expect them to stay fantasy-relevant going forward?

The other day I watched a baseballing game between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Boston Red Sox. Brad Miller and Sandy Leon featured prominently in this affair, and it left me feeling confused. One thing led to another, and I decided to write this column in part to help shed some light on other players in the AL who have also astounded me with their performances this year. If they confuse you too, I hope this helps.

Dynasty Dynamics: Futures Game Preview: World Team

0

J.P. Breen

Eloy Jimenez, Yoan Moncada, and Jorge Mateo are among the players on the squad who might be future fantasy studs.

The BP Prospect Staff released scouting reports of the U.S. and World rosters for the upcoming Futures Game. Read them. Get to know them. Love them. That’s where you can find the real meat and potatoes of this dish. I am looking to translate those scouting reports into a usable fantasy context.
