The Call-Up: Frankie Montas

0

Mauricio Rubio and George Bissell

The White Sox have called upon flamethrowing Frankie Montas to pitch in a doubleheader on Friday.

The Situation: With the White Sox playing a doubleheader on Friday, Frankie Montas will be called up to act as the 26th man, and serve as an additional bullpen arm. He will presumably be sent down right after the game.

Notes on the prospects who stood out yesterday, led by Touki Toussaint and Reese McGuire.

Hitter of the Day: Reese McGuire, C, Pirates (Indianapolis, AAA): 3-4, 3 R, 2 2B, HR, 2 BB

Known for his advanced glove as he's moved through the minor leagues, McGuire’s bat is coming around as an asset as well. Hitting .284 and having popped 18 doubles and six home runs in the season’s first half, McGuire is quickly becoming a well-rounded prospect that should arrive in Pittsburgh in the coming months, before assuming the mantle as the club’s every day catcher in 2018. —Mark Anderson

Minor League Update: Games of June 1, 2015

12

Mauricio Rubio

Updates on Lucas Giolito, Tim Anderson, Ryan McMahon, and more.

Pitcher Of The Day: Lucas Giolito, RHP, Nationals (Potomac Nationals, A+): 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 9 SO. He’s only made five starts this year but this was Giolito’s second-best outing. The wunderkind had two meh starts heading into tonight, so it was good to see him tease at dominance tonight. We all know the scouting reports are extreme, so this is all about growth at this point in the game.
