Minor League Update: Games of October 10 |
Highlights from around the Arizona Fall League.
It occurs to me very early on that it's going to be difficult to write about pitchers in the bat-heavy, ball-jumpy context of the Arizona Fall League...

BP Announcements: Current and Historical Umpire Stats Now Available |
Current and historical umpire statistics are now available in the sortable statistics.
The umpire statistics were quietly and informally retired after the 2010 season, but you asked us to bring them back and that's what we've done.
In addition to statistics for the current year, you can now access historical seasons as far back as 1950.

Minor League Update: Games of September 12 |
Your daily look at the best prospect performances from the day before.
Seth Maness, RHP, Cardinals (23) (Double-A Springfield): 7.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 6 K. A command specialist with average stuff, Maness has allowed more home runs than walks in his 200-plus minor league innings. He threw more than 76 percent of pitches for strikes in seven innings of work last night; for comparison, consider that Cliff Lee, the major leagues’ archetype of near-perfect command, has thrown 70 percent strikes this season – the same percentage Maness threw in 20 regular season starts at Double-A. Pitchers who rely almost entirely on perfect pitch placement in the low minors typically find the going much more difficult when they reach veteran-rich Double- and Triple-A, however Maness has survived the test thus far (11-3, 3.27 ERA, 83-9 K-BB in 20 Double-A starts).

Monday Morning Ten Pack: Most Memorable Prospect Debuts |
We kick off a retooled Monday Morning Ten Pack, complete with new contributors.
The Ten Packs lives! The Ten Packs lives! The light of the season will soon dim, and this weekly romance will retreat into quiet slumber until the dawn of a new season tickles our eager horizons. But until we disappear into that evening cave, please allow us to present some prospect froth for your Monday morning routine.
Or something like that. Just a quick introduction to let you know the Ten Pack will continue on Baseball Prospectus, although the construction will be slightly different. With a host of talented minor league minds currently attached to the site—and several more on their way—finding intelligent opinion will be a luxury we will have in abundance. To take advantage of this talent pool, the Ten Pack will morph into a communal affair, where the eyewitness accounts and first-hand experiences of our minor league staff will enhance the product and hopefully take the Ten Pack to the next level.
