Dynasty Dynamics: Ideal Dynasty-Style Mock Draft

5

Ben Carsley and Craig Goldstein

If MLB teams made their draft decisions based on fantasy gamers' wishes, here's how the first round would unfold.

The 2014 MLB Draft is just two days away, and with this date comes a host of new fantasy prospects for dynasty leaguers to covet, debate, and decry. While this year’s crop of prep and college talent isn’t quite as impressive as some of what we’ve seen in the recent past, there’s still a bevy of young talent you can use to bolster your MiLB rosters or use as trade chips in an attempt to win now.

With the draft just around the corner, Craig and I were looking for a way to deliver original content to our readers. And then we hit on this idea: What if we created a format in which we assigned each team one player, then explained our reasoning for why each player should end up with said team? It would be like a draft mock-up. A mock draft, if you will. Groundbreaking, we know.

Deep Impact: Week Eight

2

Ben Carsley

Breaking down a few players who might pique your interest in deep leagues.

Don’t go chasing long intros, just stick to the players and the predictions you’re used to.

Kyle Blanks, 1B/OF, Athletics
Of course the A’s acquired Kyle Blanks. It’s just too perfect. Oakland is doing all it can to utilize all the platoons ever this year. Blanks is a career .238/.336/.404 hitter against left-handed pitching. And this is an organization that’s taken plenty of chances on big-power prospects who’ve busted in recent years. Blanks is a natural fit, and he should eat away at the playing time of Josh Reddick (against lefties) and Alberto Callaspo (in general), neither of which are bad things for Oakland.

Examining a few players who might pique your interest in deep leagues.

Allow me to reintroduce this column: it’s about deep leagues.

Ronald Belisario, RP, White Sox
I’m not going to beat around the bush here—we’re only talking about Belisario and his league-leading #FACE because the White Sox bullpen is, to put it lightly, a flaming pile of poop. With Actual Real Life 2014 Closer Matt Lindstrom on the DL, it’s likely to fall to Belisario or Daniel Webb for saves among this ragtag group. Given Belisario’s veteran status, I like his odds of getting a shot first.

Examining a few players who might pique your interest in deep leagues.

I'm not gonna write you an introduction. I'm the Sarah Bareilles of Baseball Prospectus.

Jacob DeGrom
Odds are you're aware that Rafael Montero is now a member of the Mets rotation, and odds are he's already been gobbled up even in deep leagues. But Montero isn't the only new member of New York's starting five—deGrom also got the call this week thanks to an injury to Dillon Gee, and while he certainly lacks Montero's upside, he can also be had at just a fraction of the cost.

Dynasty Dynamics: The U25 Top 150, Part One

29

Ben Carsley and Craig Goldstein

In the first installment of this series, Ben and Craig take you from Domingo Santana to Jonathan Schoop.

We’ve done it, Internet. We’ve compiled a Big List of Players just for you.

Craig and I have spent the past six weeks breaking down each division, forming individual top-30 U25 dynasty rankings and comparing those lists with some witty (read: tired) commentary in each installment. We’ve also been debating each list on TINO, with the help of Dear Leader Bret Sayre and Mauricio Rubio, and have fielded many questions and concerns on Twitter and via the comments section, too.

Deep Impact: Week Five

12

Ben Carsley

Examining a handful of players who might pique your interest in deep leagues.

Introductions are for strangers. Let’s get right to it.

Trevor Bauer, SP, Indians
In last week’s Deep Impact, I was all like, “guys, you should totally pick up Marcus Stroman because he’s going to get the call soon.” Then he did. This week, I implore you to totally go pick up Bauer, because it’s going to be his turn in very short order. Yes, the Indians have turned to Josh Tomlin over Bauer in the interim, but the odds of Tomlin pitching well enough to stay in the rotation long-term aren’t great. Add in that the Tribe could look to replace Danny Salazar soon, and there should be plenty of opportunity for Bauer in the majors moving forward.
