  • Twins C Joe Mauer went 5-for-7 with a homer and four RBI.

  • Tigers 3B Miguel Cabrera hit a three-run bomb.
  • Tigers RP Joaquin Benoit got five outs in a two-run game for a save.
  • While his teammates were combining for 14 hits and five walks, White Sox C Tyler Flowers went 0-for-3 before being removed for a pinch-hitter Wednesday.
(53-66) Angels - 3 at 11 - Yankees (62-57)
  • Yankees OF Alfonso Soriano went 3-for-3 with two home runs and seven RBI.
  • Yankees 2B Robinson Cano went 4-for-4 with two runs scored.
  • Angels SP Jered Weaver allowed nine runs in five innings in a loss.

  • Mariners SP Aaron Harang allowed three runs over five innings in a no-decision.
Inter League:
(46-73) Marlins - 5 at 2 - Royals (62-56)
  • Marlins OF Justin Ruggiano snapped his 0-for-42 skid by going 3-for-4 with an RBI.
  • Despite walking six batters, Marlins SP Jacob Turner allowed just two runs -- one earned -- in five innings.
  • Royals 2B Elliot Johnson went 0-for-4 and committed a key error at third base.
(65-55) Orioles - 4 at 5 - Diamondbacks (62-57) (14 innings)
  • Diamondbacks 2B Aaron Hill had a game-tying single in the ninth and a game-winning single in the 14th.
  • Pitching in relief for just the second time in his career, Orioles SP Bud Norris took the loss in the 14th inning.
  • Orioles RP Jim Johnson took his second blown save in as many days and ninth overall when he gave up a run in the ninth.
  • Orioles 3B Manny Machado finished 3-for-6 and hit a two-run homer.
  • Orioles 2B Brian Roberts went 3-for-6 and 7-for-13 in the three-game series.

  • Cubs RP Matt Guerrier will seek a second opinion for a tear in his right forearm flexor mass.
  • Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood (elbow) is scheduled to throw a side session Saturday.
  • The Los Angeles Times expects OF Andre Ethier (calf) to return to the Dodgers' lineup Friday.
  • Braves SP Tim Hudson (ankle) said he expects to be "totally healed" by December.
  • X-rays were negative on Cardinals OF Matt Holliday's right ankle.
  • Mets manager Terry Collins said that 3B Wilmer Flores (ankle) felt "marginally better" Wednesday.
  • Pirates SP Wandy Rodriguez (forearm) threw a 35-pitch bullpen session Tuesday and reported feeling fine.
  • Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz (shoulder) threw a successful 50-pitch bullpen session on Wednesday afternoon.
  • Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez (back) was feeling fine on Wednesday.
  • Nationals RP Ross Ohlendorf (shoulder) will make his next rehab start Friday with High-A Potomac.
  • Braves RP Jordan Walden (hand) has played catch Tuesday and will do so again Wednesday.
  • Nationals C Wilson Ramos (hamstring) has been told that he'll only miss 1-2 days.
  • Braves 2B Tyler Pastornicky left Thursday's game against the Phillies with a sprained left knee.
  • Phillies SP John Lannan left Wednesday's start against the Braves with a left knee injury.
  • Cardinals outfield prospect Oscar Taveras will undergo season-ending surgery next week to repair a high right ankle sprain.

  • Twins general manager Terry Ryan anticipates C Ryan Doumit (concussion) being activated from the 7-day disabled list on Thursday or Friday, barring any setbacks.
  • Royals 3B Mike Moustakas (calf) was spotted in a walking boot Wednesday.
  • Red Sox OF Ryan Kalish (shoulder, back) hopes to be medically cleared by spring training.
  • Rays manager Joe Maddon said RP Brandon Gomes (lat) is "close" to returning from the disabled list.
  • Rays SP Matt Moore (elbow) will not rejoin the Rays' rotation this weekend.
  • Angels OF Peter Bourjos (wrist) is expected to return Friday.
  • Royals manager Ned Yost said Wednesday that 3B Mike Moustakas (calf) won't be available until this weekend.
  • Rays OF Desmond Jennings (finger) is aiming to return Monday.
  • Red Sox OF Shane Victorino has batted almost exclusively from the right side since August due to weakness in his left leg.
  • Rangers SP Alexi Ogando had a CT scan on his right shoulder Wednesday after complaining of soreness following Tuesday's start.
  • There remains no timetable for Athletics C John Jaso's (concussion) return.
  • Athletics OF Coco Crisp will be available only to pinch-run for the next day or two after receiving a cortisone shot for his ailing left wrist.

  • Padres pitching prospect Matt Wisler has registered a 3.10 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 80/25 K/BB ratio this season in 87 innings (16 starts) for Double-A San Antonio.
  • Nationals pitching prospect Lucas Giolito allowed two hits and two walks with five strikeouts over five scoreless innings on Tuesday for the GCL Nationals.
  • Cubs RP Carlos Villanueva is moving back to the bullpen.
  • The Cubs will recall SP Jake Arrieta to start Friday against the Cardinals.
  • CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports Giants SP Barry Zito has cleared waivers.
  • Braves prospect catcher Christian Bethancourt is 6-for-8 with three home runs and four RBI over his last two games for Double-A Mississippi.

American League

  • Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that Twins 1B Justin Morneau has cleared waivers.
  • Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos suggested Wednesday that the team will call up outfielder Anthony Gose within the next couple of days.
  • Athletics manager Bob Melvin said he had no plans to skip or push back SP Bartolo Colon's next start.
