  • Nationals SP Jordan Zimmermann became the National League's first eight-game winner after allowing two runs in seven innings.
  • Phillies SP Kyle Kendrick was tagged for five runs in five innings.
  • Nationals 2B Steve Lombardozzi went 3-for-4 with a two-run double.
  • Phillies 3B Michael Young was hitless in four at-bats and has just one RBI over his last 14 games.
(21-26) Padres  - 2 at 5 - Diamondbacks (27-21)
  • Diamondbacks SP Brandon McCarthy allowed one run in seven innings to win his second straight start.
  • Diamondbacks OF A.J. Pollock went 3-for-4 with an RBI from the leadoff spot.
  • Padres OF Carlos Quentin went 3-for-3 with two doubles and a walk in his return to the starting lineup.
(18-29) Cubs - 4 at 7 - Reds (30-18)
  • Reds C Ryan Hanigan blasted a three-run homer.
  • Reds RP Aroldis Chapman allowed a couple of baserunners, but struck out the side in the ninth inning to preserve a three-run lead and earn his 11th save of the season.
  • Reds SP Bronson Arroyo turned in a quality start, allowing three runs on six hits over his six innings.
  • Cubs 3B Luis Valbuena had a decent night at the dish, going 2-for-3 with a double, run scored and RBI.
  • Cubs SP Scott Feldman turned in his worst outing of the season, allowing five runs on seven hits over his 5 1/3 innings.
(28-18) Braves - 5 at 5 - Mets (17-27) (Suspended 8)
 
(29-19) Pirates - 1 at 2 - Brewers (19-27)
(31-16) Cardinals - 7 at 0 - Dodgers (19-27) 
  • Cardinals SP Lance Lynn pitched six scoreless innings, striking out nine.
  • Dodgers SP Chris Capuano gave up six runs -- five earned -- in five innings Friday in a loss to the Cardinals.
  • Cardinals 3B David Freese returned to action and connected on a two-run homer and an RBI double.
(27-21) Rockies - 5 at 0 - Giants (26-22)
  • Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood gave up no runs over six innings to win his third straight start.
  • Giants SP Tim Lincecum surrendered four runs in seven innings.
  • Rockies OF Michael Cuddyer delivered a two-run double and a homer in his return from the disabled list.
  • Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez went 2-for-4 while hitting his 12th homer of the season.

American League:

(31-17) Rangers - 9 at 5 - Mariners (20-28)
  • Rangers SP Justin Grimm went 6.1 innings for the win alllowing three runs and ten hits while striking out five.
  • Mariners SP Joe Saunders allowed six runs and eight hits over 5 innings in the loss.
  • Rangers got homers from OF Jeff Baker and DH Lance Berkman.
  • Mariners SS Brendan Ryan went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.
  • Rangers RP Joe Nathan recorded a one out save, his 15th of the year.
(26-23) Athletics - 6 at 5 - Astros (14-34)
  • Athletics OF Chris Young launched a go-ahead three-run homer in the ninth inning.
  • Astros RP Jose Veras blew his third save of the season.
  • Athletics SP Tommy Milone yielded five runs over seven innings as part of a no-decision.
  • Astros SP Erik Bedard gave up two runs in five innings in a no-decision.
  • Astros OF J.D. Martinez went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run.
(21-27) Angels - 5 at 2 - Royals (21-24)
  • Angels C Chris Iannetta homered for the second consecutive game.
  • Angels RP Garrett Richards earned the second save of his major league career, recording the final five outs to preserve a three-run victory.
  • Angels SP Jason Vargas pitched well, allowing just two runs on five hits over 7 1/3 innings.
  • Royals 3B Miguel Tejada smacked his second home run of the season.
  • Royals SP Luis Mendoza delivered a strong outing in a no-decision, allowing just one run on seven hits over his five frames.
(29-18) Yankees - 9 at 4 - Rays (24-23) 
  • Yankees OF Brett Gardner smacked a two-run homer.
  • Rays SP Roberto Hernandez was touched up for five runs over four innings.
  • Yankees 3B David Adams went 2-for-5 with two runs scored.
  • Rays OF Matt Joyce (hamstring) was 1-for-4 with an RBI double and a run scored in his return to action.
(27-20) Indians - 1 at 8 - Red Sox (29-20)
  • Red Sox OF Mike Carp smashed a three-run homer.
  • Red Sox SP John Lackey twirled a gem, allowing just one unearned run on two hits over seven innings.
  • Indians OF Michael Brantley went 2-for-3 with a double.
  • Indians SP Justin Masterson had a rough night against his former team, serving up five runs on six hits over six innings of work in a losing effort.
(18-27) Twins - 0 at 6 - Tigers (27-19)
  • Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez twirled an absolute gem, surrendering just one hit and three walks while striking out 12 over nine shutout innings.
  • Tigers OF Don Kelly belted a two-run homer.
  • OF Aaron Hicks, and the majority of the Twins’ offense, went hitless against Anibal Sanchez.
  • Twins SP Samuel Deduno was hammered in his season debut, surrendering six runs on nine hits over 5 1/3 innings of work.
(26-22) Orioles - 10 at 6 - Blue Jays -  (20-28)
  • Orioles OF Nick Markakis went 3-for-5 with a three-run double.
  • Orioles SP Chris Tillman yielded three runs in five innings.
  • Blue Jays SP Sean Nolin really struggled in his major league debut, giving up six runs in just 1 1/3 innings.
  • Orioles 1B Chris Davis went 3-for-4 with his major league-leading 16th homer.
  • Blue Jays OF Melky Cabrera went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer.
Inter League:
 
(13-35) Marlins - 3 at 4 - White Sox (22-24) (11 innings)
  • White Sox 2B Jeff Keppinger delivered a walk-off RBI single.
  • White Sox SP John Danks was solid in his first start back from shoulder surgery, giving up three runs in six-plus innings in a no-decision.
  • Marlins RP Tom Koehler yielded three runs in six innings in a no-decision.
  • Marlins 2B Derek Dietrich connected for a two-run homer in an extra-innings loss.

  • Dodgers manager Don Mattingly indicated Friday that SS Hanley Ramirez (hamstring) will probably need 4-5 rehab games before returning to the lineup.
  • Cardinals SP Jake Wesbrook (elbow) played catch on flat ground on Friday.
  • Dodgers 3B Jerry Hairston Jr. (knee, groin) will begin his minor league rehab assignment with High-A Rancho Cucamonga on Friday.
  • Rockies SP Jeff Francis (groin) threw a 25-pitch bullpen session on Friday.
  • Rockies RP Rafael Betancourt (groin) will throw a bullpen session to determine whether he'll be available for Friday night's contest against the Giants.
  • Marlins SP Nathan Eovaldi (shoulder) will make his first minor league rehab start with High-A Jupiter on Saturday.
  • Brewers RP Chris Narveson (finger) will be stretched out as a starter when he begins a rehab assignment next week.
  • Nationals SP Ross Detwiler (back) played catch Thursday and will throw a bullpen session Saturday.
  • Nationals 2B Danny Espinosa has been playing with a small fracture in his right wrist for the past month.
  • Mets RP Jeurys Familia (biceps) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Saturday with High-A St. Lucie.
  • Phillies RP Mike Adams (back) will be activated from the disabled list on Sunday.
  • Giants general manager Brian Sabean said during a radio interview that he anticipates "there’s some form of surgery coming" for RP Santiago Casilla (knee).
  • Nationals RP Ryan Mattheus is expected to be sidelined 4-6 weeks with a fractured right hand.
  • Rockies SP Edwar Cabrera (left shoulder impingement) threw a 45-pitch bullpen session last month.
  • Cardinals prospect outfielder Oscar Taveras has been sidelined since leaving a game at Triple-A Memphis on May 12 with an ankle injury.
  • Dodgers RP Scott Elbert (elbow) will pitch in minor league rehab games on Saturday and Sunday, where he'll likely face one hitter each game.
  • Brewers RP Jim Henderson is dealing with a right hamstring injury.
  • Pirates SP Jeff Karstens (shoulder) will be re-evaluated next week after having his throwing program shut down on Friday due to pain in his right shoulder.
  • Rockies SP Roy Oswalt struggled in his rehab start for Double-A Tulsa on Friday, surrendering three runs on four hits over his five innings of work.
  • Cardinals SP Chris Carpenter (shoulder, neck) threw a successful bullpen session on Friday.
American League:
  • Yankees OF Curtis Granderson (fractured knuckle) will miss a minimum of four weeks.
  • Athletics OF Josh Reddick (wrist) felt great after taking batting practice on the field before Friday's game, saying that his wrist wasn't an issue at all.
  • Angels SP Tommy Hanson is scheduled to throw 75 pitches Saturday in an extended spring training game.
  • Angels OF Peter Bourjos (hamstring) has begun light jogging and batting practice.
  • Orioles C Taylor Teagarden (thumb) is scheduled to play in a game Monday in Sarasota, Florida.
  • Yankees 3B Kevin Youkilis (back) will play in an extended spring training game Saturday.
  • Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (wrist) expects to play rehab games with Double-A Trenton next Wednesday and Thursday.
  • Astros OF Justin Maxwell (hand) expects to begin a minor league rehab assignment next Wednesday with Class A Quad Cities.
  • Yankees SP Andy Pettitte (trapezius) played catch Thursday and Friday and is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Saturday.
  • Rangers 1B Mike Olt has experienced improvement with his vision problem.
  • Royals SP Danny Duffy (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Sunday.
  • Rangers SP Nick Tepesch (blister) has been cleared to start Sunday in Seattle.
  • Royals manager Ned Yost said OF Jarrod Dyson (ankle) is likely "at least three weeks" away from returning.
  • Rangers manager Ron Washington said Friday that he's not sure whether Alexi Ogando (biceps) will require a minor league rehab start before coming off the disabled list.
  • Yankees RP David Phelps was diagnosed with a right forearm contusion.

  • Brewers RP Alfredo Figaro is expected to start next Tuesday against the Twins.
  • Giants RP Chad Gaudin could get a shot in the Giants' rotation following the injury to Ryan Vogelsong (hand).
  • RP James Russell has emerged as one of the Cubs' few bright spots in 2013, checking in with a 1.04 ERA and 0.87 WHIP in 23 appearances.
  • Giants RP George Kontos has allowed six runs on 11 hits and two walks in his last three appearances.
  • Phillies RP Chad Durbin sports a hideous 10.38 ERA in May.
  • Marlins RP Ryan Webb has been a steady veteran influence on Miami's bullpen, posting a 2.08 ERA and 0.96 WHIP over 26 innings in 2013.
American League:
  • Angels SP Billy Buckner will start Saturday against the Royals.
