  • Dodgers SP Zack Greinke blanked the Pirates for 6 1/3 innings and combined with three relievers on a shutout.
  • Pirates SP Jonathan Sanchez gave up three runs in five-plus innings in a loss to the Dodgers,

  • Pirates OF Travis Snider went hitless in his first start of the season.

  • Diamondbacks SP Wade Miley gave up just one run over six innings in a 3-1 win over the Brewers.
  • Brewers SP Kyle Lohse tossed six innings of one-run ball in a no-decision against the Diamondbacks.

  • Diamondbacks 1B Paul Goldschmidt had an RBI double, a walk and a run scored in a win over the Brewers.

  • Brewers SS Jean Segura launched his first major league home run in a loss to the Diamondbacks.

  • Marlins 3B Placido Polanco went 3-for-5 with a two-run single and a run scored in the team's 7-5 win over the Mets.

  • Marlins SP Alex Sanabia fired six shutout innings in a win over the Mets.

  • Mets SP Jeremy Hefner yielded one run over six innings in a tough-luck loss to the Marlins.

  • Mets 2B Daniel Murphy clubbed a three-run homer in a loss to the Marlins.

  • Reds SS Zack Cozart homered twice and drove in a career-high five runs in a 15-0 win over the Nationals.

  • Reds SP Homer Bailey dealt six shutout frames in a win over the Nationals.

  • Nationals SP Dan Haren was rocked for six runs on four home runs over four innings in a loss to the Reds.

  • Reds 3B Todd Frazier went 4-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI in a blowout win over the Nationals.

  • Braves RP Craig Kimbrel retired the Cubs in order in the ninth inning, notching his second save of the young season.

  • OF Justin Upton connected on his third home run of the season, powering the Braves to a 4-1 victory over the Cubs.

  • Braves SP Mike Minor looked sharp in his season debut, racking up seven strikeouts in a victory over the Cubs.

  • Cubs OF Scott Hairston blasted a solo home run, accounting for all of the Cubs' offense in loss to the Braves.

  • Cubs SP Scott Feldman struggled in his season debut surrendering four runs on five hits over 4 2/3 innings in a loss to the Braves.

  • Phillies SP Kyle Kendrick was ripped for five runs in 5 2/3 innings in loss to the Royals.

  • Phillies OF Domonic Brown smacked a solo homer in a loss to the Royals.

  • Rockies SP Jeff Francis tossed six innings of one-run ball in a 5-2 win over the Padres.

  • Padres SP Jason Marquis gave up five runs (two earned) over six innings in a loss to the Rockies.

  • Rockies OF Dexter Fowler clubbed a solo home run, his third of the season, against the Padres.

  • SP Barry Zito pitched three-hit ball over seven innings as the Giants beat the Cardinals 1-0.

  • Rockies SS Troy Tulowitzki went 2-for-4 with a two-run double in a win over the Padres.

  • Giants RP Sergio Romo picked up his third save with a perfect ninth against the Cardinals.

  • Cardinals SP Jake Westbrook allowed just an unearned run over 6 2/3 innings in a loss to the Giants.

  • Cardinals OF Carlos Beltran went 0-for-4 on Friday and is 1-for-10 so far this season.

American League:

  • Athletics SP Dan Straily struck out a career-high 11 batters while allowing two runs over 6 2/3 innings in a 8-3 win over the Astros.

  • Astros SP Brad Peacock gave up two runs in 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Athletics. 
  • Athletics OF Coco Crisp had a big day at the plate in a win over the Astros, as he went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, two doubles and three RBI.

  • Mariners OF Franklin Gutierrez homered and drove home three runs, powering Seattle to an 8-7 extra-inning victory over the White Sox.

  • Mariners SP Blake Beavan was hit hard in a no-decision against the White Sox, allowing five runs on six hits in his five innings of work.

  • White Sox OF Alex Rios put his power and speed on display in Chicago's extra-inning loss to the Mariners, blasting his first home run of the season and swiping his second base.

  • White Sox SP Jose Quintana was knocked around in a no-decision against the Mariners, allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits over four-plus innings of work.

  • Red Sox RP Joel Hanrahan slammed the door on the Blue Jays protecting a 6-4 lead and earning his second save of the season.

  • Red Sox C/1B Mike Napoli smashed his first home run as a member of the club, helping to lead them to a 6-4 victory over the Blue Jays in Toronto.

  • Red Sox SP Felix Doubront had mediocre results in his season debut, allowing three runs on nine hits over 5 2/3 innings of work against the Blue Jays.

  • Blue Jays SS Jose Reyes had a monster day at the plate in Toronto's loss to the Red Sox, going 4-for-5 including a home run.

  • Blue Jays SP Josh Johnson racked up six strikeouts in his debut but came away with a no-decision after surrendering three runs on nine hits over six frames against the Red Sox.

  • Rays INF/OF Ben Zobrist had a pair of doubles and drove home three runs, leading Tampa Bay to a 4-0 victory over the Indians.

  • Rays SP Matt Moore turned in an outstanding performance in his season debut against the Indians, allowing just two hits over six scoreless innings.
  • Indians OF Michael Bourn went 2-for-4 with a double, collecting Cleveland's only two hits in a losing effort against the Rays.

  • Indians SP Zach McAllister pitched well in a losing effort against the Rays, surrendering four runs (two earned) on six hits over six innings.

  • Royals 1B Eric Hosmer had a big day at the dish going 4-for-5 with three RBI in a 13-4 win over the Phillies.

  • Royals SP Wade Davis yielded four runs over four innings in his season debut against the Phillies.
  • Royals SS Alcides Escobar went 2-for-5 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in Kansas City's blowout win over the Phillies.

  • Orioles 1B Chris Davis hit a grand slam in the bottom of the eighth to break a 5-5 tie and push the Orioles past the Twins on Friday. Davis has a major league leading 16 RBI's through 4 games.

  • Orioles SP Jake Arrieta allowed five runs in five innings in a no-decision against the Twins.
  • Twins SP Liam Hendriks gave up four runs and eight hits in 4 2/3 innings against the Orioles.

  • Orioles OF Adam Jones went 3-for-5 with a double and three runs scored against the Twins.

  • Twins 2B/SS Brian Dozier had a two-run triple and an RBI single to drive in three of Minnesota's five runs.

  • Rangers 3B Adrian Beltre went 2-for-4 and homered as Texas edged the Angels 3-2.

  • Rangers SP Derek Holland pitched seven innings of two-run ball against the Angels.

  • Angels SP Jason Vargas yielded one run in 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision versus the Rangers.

  • Yankees SP Ivan Nova surrendered four runs in 4 2/3 innings in a loss to the Tigers.

  • Yankees 1B/3B Kevin Youkilis went 2-for-4 and hit a two-run homer in a loss to the Tigers.

  • Yankees OF Ichiro Suzuki went 0-for-4 on Friday and is 1-for-13 with a couple of walks this season.

  • Angels OF Josh Hamilton returned to Texas Friday, going 0-for-4 and making two mistakes in right field.

  • Marlins recalled C Kyle Skipworth from Triple-A New Orleans.
  • Mets released RHP Brad Holt.

  • ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that SP/RP Dontrelle Willis has signed with the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League.

  • Reds sent INF Jason Donald outright to Triple-A Louisville.

  • Reds minor league right-hander Vaughn Covington was suspended 50 games for a second violation for a drug of abuse.
American League:
  • Athletics designated RHP Dan Otero for assignment.
  • Athletics acquired INF/OF Stephen Vogt from the Rays for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

  • Athletics 1B/OF Shane Peterson will be called up from Triple-A Sacramento if 1B/OF Brandon Moss is placed on the paternity leave list.

  • Red Sox minor league first baseman Mike Flacco has retired from baseball.

  • Rays recalled RHP Brandon Gomes from Triple-A Durham.

  • Astros designated RHP Edgar Gonzalez for assignment.

  • Twins signed INF Eric Farris.

  • Tigers released INF Cale Iorg.

  • Orioles recalled INF/OF Yamaico Navarro from Triple-A Norfolk.

  • Rays placed RHP Jeff Niemann on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder soreness.
  • Yankees SP Phil Hughes (back) will be activated from the disabled list to start Saturday against the Tigers.
  • Orioles placed 2B Brian Roberts on the 15-day disabled list with a ruptured tendon in his right knee.
  • Angels minor league catcher Carlos Ramirez was suspended 50 games for his second violation for a drug of abuse.
Injury Updates:

National League:

  • Reds prospect SS/OF Billy Hamilton is considered day-to-day after leaving Friday's Triple-A game with a minor injury.

  • Brewers OF Ryan Braun's availability for Saturday's game remains uncertain after experiencing neck spasms that forced him to sit out Friday's game vs the Diamondbacks.

  • Brewers 3B Aramis Ramirez will have an MRI performed on his injured left knee on Saturday.

  • Dodgers SP Ted Lilly (shoulder) was knocked around a bit in his rehab start for High-A Rancho Cucamonga, allowing five runs (three home runs) in six innings.

  • Cardinals 3B David Freese (back) went 1-for-4 and played seven innings defensively in his first rehab game for Triple-A Memphis.
  • Nationals 1B Adam LaRoche left the game early in Washington's loss to the Reds due to tightness in his lower back.

  • SP Matt Garza (lat) hopes to join the Cubs' rotation in early May. Garza threw a successful bullpen session Thursday.

  • Mets manager Terry Collins said Friday that there's no timetable for SP Shaun Marcum (neck) and that it could be a week or two before they know.

  • Brandon Belt (illness) was back in the Giants' lineup Friday.

  • Christian Garcia (forearm) threw from 60 feet Wednesday and said afterwards that he "feels great."
American League:
  • Red Sox SS Jose Iglesias was diagnosed with a right arm contusion.

  • Orioles 2B Brian Roberts (knee) will head to the Orioles' spring training facility in Florida on Sunday to begin his rehabilitation.

  • Yankees SS Derek Jeter (ankle) hit off a tee on Friday.

  • Blue Jays 3B Brett Lawrie (rib cage) still isn't ready to play in a game.

  • Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that INF Eduardo Nunez (bicep) is unlikely to play Saturday.

  • Astros OF Fernandez Martinez (oblique) is scheduled to hit in the cage on Friday.
  • Astros SP Alex White will undergo Tommy John surgery.

  • OF Jose Bautista (ankle) was not in the Blue Jays' lineup Friday.

  • Twins SP Cole De Vries (forearm) will not make his scheduled start Sunday.

  • Rangers SP Colby Lewis (elbow) will throw the first of six live batting practice sessions on Saturday at the club's spring training complex.

  • Yankees SP Hiroki Kuroda (finger) has been cleared to make his next scheduled start after completing a bullpen session Friday.

  • Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma threw almost no offspeed pitches during a bullpen session Thursday due to a blister on the middle finger of his pitching hand.
  • Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira is progressing well in his recovery from a strained right wrist and could return sooner than expected.

  • White Sox SP John Danks (shoulder) allowed one run over five innings during an extended spring training game Thursday.

  • Red Sox SP/RP Franklin Morales (back) threw a 25-pitch live batting practice session that went well.

  • Red Sox SS Stephen Drew (Concussion) went 1-for-3 with a double and a sacrifice fly during his second rehab game with Double-A Portland on Friday.
  • Angels OF Kole Calhoun is expected to miss the next 4-6 weeks after fracturing the hamate bone in his right hand. 

Notes and Rumors:

National League:

  • Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Friday that Carl Crawford is likely to play on Saturday, then be given the day off on Sunday when the team faces Pirates LHP Jeff Locke.

  • Brewers RP John Axford said Friday that he feels healthy, but can't explain why his velocity has dropped.

American League:
  • Oakland OF Seth Smith was scratched from Friday's lineup against the Astros.

  • Yankees SP/RP David Phelps is being moved back to the bullpen with the scheduled return of Phil Hughes to the rotation on Saturday.

  • 2B Jason Kipnis told Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer that he's not currently discussing an extension with the Indians.

  • Indians manager Terry Francona said that SP Carlos Carrasco will get the call Tuesday against the Yankees.

  • Astros SP Erik Bedard had his first start moved back from Saturday to Tuesday the 9th against the Mariners in Seattle. SP's Bud Norris and Lucas Harrell will both move up a day with Norris starting Saturday and Harrell Sunday vs the Athletics.

  • Blue Jays RP Sergio Santos would have closed if there was a save situation Friday against the Red Sox. Current closer Casey Janssen had pitched in two straight games and the club wants to be cautious with him early on in the season.

  • The Twins will call up left-hander Pedro Hernandez to start Sunday against the Orioles in place of the injured Cole DeVries.
