National League:

  • Carlos Marmol surrendered three runs in two-thirds of an inning and took a loss Saturday against the Astros.

  • Chris Johnson had a two-run homer and an RBI single as the Braves topped their Double-A Mississippi affiliate 10-0 on Saturday.

  • James McDonald gave up four runs in two innings as the Pirates lost to their Double-A Altoona affiliate 8-6 on Saturday.

  • Rickie Weeks hit his third home run of the spring Saturday in the Brewers' 4-3 defeat of the White Sox.

  • Placido Polanco homered twice and drove in five runs as the Marlins beat their Triple-A New Orleans affiliate 7-0 on Saturday.

  • A.J. Ellis smashed a grand slam home run off Jason Vargas on Friday, leading the Dodgers to a 9-8 victory over the Angels.

  • Josh Beckett’s spring finale didn’t go exactly as planned on Friday, as he surrendered seven runs on nine hits over his 4 innings of work.

  • Brad Peacock threw three scoreless innings Saturday in the Astros' 6-3 defeat of the Cubs.

  • Felix Doubront struck out six in five scoreless innings in the Red Sox's 4-2 win over the Twins on Saturday.

  • Twins RHP Mike Pelfrey surrendered four runs and nine hits in 3 2/3 innings against the Red Sox on Saturday.

  • Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Saturday that he's "pretty optimistic" third baseman Pablo Sandoval (elbow) will be ready for the start of the regular season.

  • Cubs 2B Darwin Barney has been ruled out for Opening Day because of a gash on his knee that required stitches.

  • Rockies 2B/SS Josh Rutledge left Saturday's game after being involved in a collision with Michael Cuddyer.

  • Mets LHP Johan Santana (shoulder) is scheduled to undergo surgery Tuesday.

  • The Mets will wait until Sunday to decide whether INF Justin Turner (calf) will open the season on the disabled list.
  • Giants placed LHP Eric Surkamp on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 22, with a strained left elbow tendon.

  • Giants placed INF Tony Abreu on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 22, with a strained quad.

  • Giants placed 1B Brett Pill on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 22, with a right knee injury.
