I'm new here, so let me introduce myself. My name is Jason, and I'm kind of obsessed with baseball, especially when it comes to prospects and how they fit into an organization's depth chart. If you're familiar with MLBDepthCharts.com, you know what I mean. I'll be doing these updates regularly, so you're stuck with me for awhile. Be sure to leave feedback in the comments section and let me know your preferences for this feature. You can also find me on Twitter @mlbdepthcharts.
  • Hanser Alberto, SS, Rangers (Surprise): 3-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 R, SB. One of many very good middle infield prospects in the Rangers’ farm system, the 20 year-old Alberto has 14 hits in his first 38 at-bats and four consecutive multi-hit games; look for him to start 2013 in Hi-A with a possible mid-season promotion to Double-A Frisco.
  • Dellin Betances, RHP, Yankees (Scottsdale): IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, K. No walks in any appearance is good news for Betances, who is coming off of a disastrous 2012 season (6.44 ERA, 99 BB, 124 K in 131.1 IP between Triple-A and Double-A); hasn’t allowed a run in last 4.2 IP with 1 BB and 7 K.
  • Corey Dickerson, OF, Rockies (Salt River): 2-for-3, RBI, SB. Has yet to struggle at any of the four levels he’s played as a pro (PIO, A, A+, AA); Rockies have a surplus of good OF’s on their big league club and in their farm system so I wouldn’t be surprised to see a trade involving at least one this winter.
  • Pedro Florimon, Jr., SS, Twins (Escogido-DWL): 2-for-2, 2 BB, 2 R. Finished the season as the starting shortstop of the Twins, thanks to his defense and the lack of any other good options; off to a 7-for-41 start so he’s not exactly going to stop the Twins from searching for an upgrade unless he reaches base four times in a game regularly this winter.
  • T.J. House, LHP, Indians (Scottsdale): 4 IP, 0 R, H, BB, 4 K. The 23 year-old has been dealing in his first four starts, holding opponents to a .175 BA with 6 BB and 18 K in 17 IP; could reach the majors in 2013, although that would probably mean that things weren’t going very well in Cleveland.
  • Rymer Liriano, OF, Padres (Peoria): 3-for-5, RBI, R, K, CS.  Top prospect for the Padres went hitless in 3 consecutive games before breaking out on Wednesday with his 5th multi-hit game of the season; caught stealing for first time in 6 chances.
  • Starling Marte, OF, Pirates (Escogido-DWL): 2-for-3, 2B, RBI, 3 R, BB, SB. Getting warmed up for his spring competition with Jose Tabata and Travis Snider for what could be just one starting outfield spot in Pittsburgh; it could be two spots, but I have a feeling the Bucs will fill one through free agency.
  • Chris Martin, RHP, Red Sox (Surprise): 2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 3 K. Back-to-back scoreless outings for the 26 year-old, who has no walks and seven strikeouts in his last 4 IP. Two years removed from pitching in an Independent League, the hard-throwing reliever will likely start the season in Triple-A Pawtucket.
  • Mark Montgomery, RHP, Yankees (Scottsdale): 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 2 K. He’s not ready to replace free agent Rafael Soriano as the Yankees’ closer but it wouldn’t be a surprise if he’s in the majors by June 1st and playing an integral role in the bullpen by the end of the season.
  • James Paxton, LHP, Mariners (Peoria): 2 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 2 K: Should be in a big league rotation at some point in 2013, whether it’s for the Mariners or some other team; he was reportedly being scouted by the Royals in his last start.
  • Stefen Romero, 2B, Mariners (Peoria): 2-for-5, 2B, RBI, 2 R. The Mariners’ Minor League Player of the Year hasn’t stopped hitting all year long; has hit in 8 of 9 AFL games after hitting .352 between Hi-A High Desert and Double-A Jackson.
  • Jean Segura, SS, Brewers (Cibao-DWL): 2-for-3, RBI, BB, SB, E. The general consensus is that Segura is going to be an above-average hitting major league shortstop; it’s the 10 errors in 43 big league games last season and now 4 errors in his first 9 games in the DWL that will likely have the Brewers looking for a reliable veteran stop-gap, such as Alex Gonzalez, to play SS in 2013.
