Billy Hamilton is Not Impressed by Usain Bolt

by Hudson Belinsky

Billy Hamilton is aware of Usain Bolt’s existence, and apparently he's unimpressed.

Can we please build up a rivalry between these two gentlemen that leads to a foot race? Seeing Hamilton humbled might be the best way to make baseball fans appreciate Bolt.

I'm more impressed by the fact that his profile says this:

"pro baseball player in da Cincinnati reds organization"

Twitter really is tremendous.

Usian Bolt has won Olympic gold medals. So far, Hamilton hasn't even broke into the major leagues yet.

if the deep regret i hold for trading hamilton for rick porcello a year ago hasn't built enough resentment to root against him, then this lack of respect will help solidify my stance. you'd think a speedster would be able to able to admire oh, only the fastest man to ever live.

FYI, "Usain Bolt is a fool" is a compliment to Bolt.

Duh right? Did anyone really think Hamilton was trying to insult Bolt? Little too square in here.

Bolt is a great 100m runner and (from what I've seen and heard) a tremendous human being.

That said, the 100m is all he does. Carl Lewis was a MUCH better athlete.

Well, there's this little thing called the 200, too...

As things have gotten progressively more specialized, I wonder if we'll ever see another all-arounder like Lewis. Lewis apparently doesn't like to make comparisons across eras. It's come up in a couple of Joe Posnanski's recent columns, including (which I can't find right now) the position that you can't really compare times because the best would find a way to win, whatever the competition, so you really just need to judge sprinters by their own era.

The man who will break Bolt's records has not been born yet. Could you have said the same about Lewis?

Pretty sure B-Ham is referencing Bolt's demand to try out for Man U and not disrespecting Bolt's speed. Context my friends.

I was wondering the same thing actually.

Didn't mean any of this literally. I'm sure Billy Hamilton respects Usain Bolt's awesomeness. But I'd still like the two of them to silence the "Billy Hamilton is faster than Usain Bolt" crowd, if such a crowd exists.

Well, if we actually want to talk about the subject at hand...

It'd be extremely hard to compare them. I would think that starting from a slide step, turning, running about 70 feet through dirt/mud then sliding takes different skills and is at a different speed than running an Olympic race on a "rubber?" track. Even the running shoes/cleats are different.

It might be interesting to see them race if they did it twice, once as a simulation of the basepaths with dirt and all, and the other on a race track.

You're absolutely correct. We're dealing with different kinds of speeds. Not definitive either way.

It might be funny to watch Bolt tumble through a pop-up slide.

I'd like to see Bolt go first to third more than I would see him trying out for ManU.

I'd like to see a cornerback cover him on a fly route. I wonder if he has any kind of "hands" at all?

Who knows if he could even get off a jam at the line of scrimmage...no one's trying to stop him from starting the 100m now. Worked out fine for Bob Hayes, though, so maybe he'd be dominant.
