Wezen-Ball

A Chicago-Inspired Cryptogram

by Larry Granillo

The BP2012 Book Tour winds its way to Chicago on Monday, where I will sit quietly as Kevin Goldstein, Christina Kahrl, Colin Wyers, and Ken Funck prove why they are so much smarter than me. Everyone is invited to attend!

To honor the occasion, I decided to give our Chicago readers a bit of a challenge [note: this is a) not a real challenge and b) open to all readers]. Below are two phrases, encoded through some sort of baseball-related process. One stands for pride and one stands for shame.

Can you decode the phrases? The first to do so will win my undying admiration. The second to do so will win my long-lasting admiration. The third will get fleeting admiration. And so on.

(Honestly, I have no idea if this is incredibly hard or incredibly simple. I hope it's somewhere in between. If you need a hint on where to start, you should be able to find help here and here.)

Let's see what you've got! If you'd rather not spoil the puzzle for anyone else, send me your answers by clicking here.
