As fervent patriots one and all, we the BP people, in order to form a more tranquil collection of baseball commentators, have decided to knock off for the Independence Day holiday on Monday. You will see the blog side of our home page continue to be updated, and we will respond to breathtakingly important breaking news (Derek Jeter ascending to a higher plane, say), but otherwise we're going to be doing what you're doing, which, I hope, is enjoying a hot dog at the game in the company of friends and family. We will be back on Tuesday with our usual full slate of articles and opinions. From all of us to all of you, please enjoy a safe and happy holiday, and here's to the founding fathers: George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Connie Mack… Thank you, guys!

Bill James doesn't get a shout-out among the Founding Fathers? That's just unacceptable...

Connie Mack :-) This year is the sesquicentennial of the Civil War, and next year is the sesquicentennial of Connie Mack.

You guys are behind the times. According to the New York media, Derek Jeter ascended to the highest plane years ago.

Got tickets for me and my son to see the Colorado Springs Sky Sox take on the Tacoma Rainiers. AAA baseball. Post-game fireworks. Life is good.

The Rockies put on a great fireworks show as well, and if you get tickets in the left field pavilion or rockpile, they let you go on the field. They do fireworks shows tonight, Saturday and the last homestand weekend in September.

Once the July 4th weekend is over, I'm off to SABR41 in Long Beach, CA.
