--Lynn Henning of the Detroit News writes that a distraught Jim Joyce admits he cost Armando Galarraga a perfect game in the Tigers' victory over the Indians. The News' Bob Wojnowski writes that it was perfect robbery as a blown call steals Galarraga's perfect game. Kevin Kernan of the New York Post writes that Major League Baseball must expand replay now. Kernan also writes that Don Denkinger, the villain umpire from the 1985 World Series, believes MLB should expand replay.

--Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times writes that Ken Griffey Jr. retires, catching the Mariners off guard. Condotta also writes that the Mariners earn their first extra-inning victory of the season in the wake of Griffey's announcement. The Times' Steve Kelley writes that there is no happy ending for the greatest Mariner. Larry LaRue of the Tacoma News-Tribune writes that it was a sad day for Griffey's teammates. Paul Daugherty of the Cincinnati Enquirer writes that Griffey's grand career overshadows the low points.

--Carroll Rogers of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution writes that the Braves post their 10thlast at-bat victory in beating the Phillies.

--Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times writes that the Rays overcome another controversial call as they rally to beat the Blue Jays.

--George A. King III of the New York Post writes that the Yankees beat up on the hapless Orioles. The Post's Brian Costello writes that Jorge Posada doesn't want to give up catching full-time.

--Andy Martino of the New York Daily News writes that Luis Castillo is seeing a doctor today and could be going on the disabled list with a foot injury.

--Derrick Gould of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch writes that Chris Carpenter is in shutdown mode in the Cardinals' victory over the Reds.

--Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram writes that Scott Feldman has his location down and the hitters do the rest in the Rangers' victory over the White Sox. Wilson also writes that Guerrero's eye and face are OK after a batting cage mishap.

--Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register writes that the Angels use the Royals as a confidence builder with another win.

--Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times writes that Garrett Anderson's single in the 14thinning gives the Dodgers a 1-0 victory over the Diamondbacks.

--Bill Center of the San Diego Union-Tribune writes that a grand slam by Adrian Gonzalez makes for a happy ending in the Padres' victory over the Mets.

--Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe writes that the Red Sox are paced by David Ortiz and Daisuke Matsuzaka in their victory over the Athletics. Abraham also writes that Josh Beckett's return to the rotation is at least a month away.

--Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel writes that a late-inning surge by the Brewers secures Yovani Gallardo's win over the Marlins. Haudricourt also writes that Trevor Hoffman's return to the closer role grinds to a halt.

--Bernardo Fallas of the Houston Chronicle writes that the heart of the Astros' batting order ignites a victory over the Nationals.

--Steve Kroner of the San Francisco Chronicle writes that Matt Cain keeps rolling against the Rockies.

--Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald writes that Marlins hitting coach Jim Presley expects greatness from Mike Stanton.

--Jim Armstrong of the Denver Post writes that Ubaldo Jimenez repeats as the National League Pitcher of the Month.

--John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer writes that Walt Jocketty says that Aroldis Chapman will not pitch in relief.

--John Lott of the National Post writes that whispers turn to cheers for Jose Bautista with his power surge.

--Wailin Wang of the Chicago Tribune writes that BP has scaled back its sponsorship efforts of the Crosstown Cup between the Cubs and White Sox.

--Peter Schmuck of the Baltimore Sun writes that it's time for the Orioles to let Dave Trembley down gently.
