Hitter of the Day:

Austin Hays, OF, Baltimore Orioles (Double-A, Bowie): 2-5, 2 R, 3B, HR, 5 RBI
Hays can show you all five tools. While his best tool is a plus arm, his raw power could make a case for that distinction. He’s now slugging over .600 for the season and is forcing us to make a tough decision on if him or Chance Sisco will be the top Orioles prospect next season.

Pitcher of the Day:

Corbin Martin, RHP, Houston Astros (Short-Season, Tri-City): 4 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, 9 K
Taken in the 2nd round of this past draft, Martin has ideal size, a big fastball, a hammer cure, a tight slider, and a usable change. The problem? He wasn’t always a starter in college, and he battled control issues until putting it all together in his junior year. The upside as a starter is huge, so he will be worked as a starter until he can’t.

Other Notable Performances:

Rookie Davis, RHP, Cincinnati Reds (Triple-A, Louisville): 4 2/3 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 10 K
The Reds claimed RHP Luke Farrell off waivers yesterday, muddying the waters for a potential call-up of Rookie (among others). Until that call-up, Rookie will just bide his time in Louisville.

Austin Gomber, LHP, St. Louis Cardinals (Double-A, Springfield): 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 5 K
A 4th rounder in 2014, Gomber was a popular pick for the annual “Cardinals Devil Magic player who will become great” in 2017, but has not performed. His arsenal became more hittable as his fastball is flat and can often fall in the high 80’s range.

Edwar Colina, RHP, Minnesota Twins (Rookie, Elizabethon): 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 5 K
Edwar, who’s full name is Edwar Osnel de la Cruz Colina, had a good day. Otherwise, he profiles as a RHR depth, but still, a drink to you sir. As long as it’s a non-alcoholic drink, you’re only 20.

Daniel Tillo, LHP, Kansas City Royals (Rookie, Burlington): 5 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 5 K
A 3rd rounder from this past draft, Tillo offers great size, left-handedness, and a big fastball. While he dealt with a lot of injuries, when he is healthy Tillo offers mid-rotation upside.

Deivi Garcia, RHP, New York Yankees (Rookie, Pulaski): 4 1/3 IP, 5 H, R, ER, 2 BB, 6 K
I just mentioned Garcia in a MMTP, and while he could never be heard from on these pages again, I’ll bet that you will be hearing about him next season.

Anthony Santander, OF, Baltimore Orioles (Double-A, Bowie): 3-5, 2 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI
After having shoulder surgery in the fall, the Orioles saw an opportunity to take a gamble on the young Santander in the Major League Rule 5 Draft. Santander’s best tool is his above-average raw power and the ability to make consistent hard contact.

Leody Taveras, OF, Texas Rangers (Low-A, Hickory): 3-5, 2B, K
Willy Taveras’ cousin, Leody doesn’t run like Willy, but is still a plus runner who has shown more power than expected in his first go around in full-season ball.

Ryan McMahon, INF, Colorado Rockies (Triple-A, Albuquerque): 3-5, R, RBI, K
In an effort to find more playing time in Colorado, McMahon has been playing all over the infield to become more versatile. While the 2B experiment is…going, he still can play both CIF spots and will be ready whenever a spot opens up.

Kevin Smith, SS, Toronto Blue Jays (Rookie, Bluefield): 2-4, R, 2 2B, RBI, BB, K
A 4th rounder from this past draft, Smith is a smooth fielding SS who can play all over the field if needed. He has above-average raw power, but struggles with pitch recognition and has a lot of swing and miss.

Braden Bishop, OF, Seattle Mariners (Double-A, Arkansas): 3-4, R, 2B, BB, K, SB
As of this writing, Jerry Dipoto has not traded Braden Bishop. But with the way Jerry works, nobody should ever be comfortable.

Greg Allen, OF, Cleveland Indians (Double-A, Akron): 2-4, R, 2 RBI, K
Fortunately for you, Greg Goldstein never sleeps, and found time to write up Allen in a recent MMTP.

Tampa Yankees Pitching Staff, New York Yankees (High-A): 14 IP, 10 H, R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 25 K
It was a good day for everyone involved. Since Brian Keller, Jose Pena, Trevor Lane, and Stephen Tarpley are all over 21, an alcoholic drink if you would like gentleman.

Fight Another Day:

Jordan Romano, RHP, Toronto Blue Jays (High-A, Dunedin): 2 1/3 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
A 10th round selection in 2014, I got everything you need to know about this Canadian right here.

Dylan Cozens, OF, Philadelphia Phillies (Triple-A, Lehigh Valley): 0-4, BB, 3 K
Sometimes, when you see your teammate get called up to the big leagues for the first time, you suddenly wake up with 3 strikeouts.
