Last year, we established the Vogelsong Awards to honor the best players who didn not appear in the BP Annual. Every month, I identified one hitter and one pitcher whose performance earned them a Full Vogelsong Award. (There's also a Lineout Vogelsong Award for players whose Annual entry is only a short "lineout" at the end of each team summary.)

This year, you're invited to join the process via the Vogelsong Awards Contest. We're inviting BP readers to select their picks for Full Vogelsong Awards. The process is pretty simple:

  1. Pick one hitter and one pitcher, not included in this year's Annual (recalling the entirely arbitrary limitation that foreign players who sign with clubs after the Annual is published are ineligible).
  2. Send your picks, along with how you'd like your name to be listed if you win, to me by clicking the You can contact Rob by clicking here link at the bottom of this article.

Each month, when we announce the Vogelsong Awards, I'll list anyone who correctly identified the month's overlooked star. And when we name the prestigious Vogelsong Award of the Year, you'll get a mention there too if you got it right.

What's more, you'll be competing for a valuable prize of … just kidding. But hey, everybody reading the article will be impressed! Well, I will. Really!

The deadline for contest entries is 11:59 PM EDT on Friday, March 31. Don't miss this opportunity to show off your ability to pick really obscure baseball players!

For your reference, here is a list of all 2,077 players in this year's Annual.
