KC/Dayton Moore really blew it by not going hard after Cano. The analysis of Cano's affordability during the off-season should have given some courage, and I don't think KC will ever make a jump by making the likes of Omar Infante their "big acquisition" given where they ended last year. Cano would have made KC an instant and viable contender (while Seattle is having trouble figuring out what else to do with their roster). So bad grade from me on Dayton Moore's winter.

At no point, was Cano ever a realistic possibility in KC.

Do you even follow baseball? What on earth made you think Cano would have worked in KC? The only way he would have even come to KC is if we gave him at least 10% more than Seattle, 10 years, stock options, and a unicorn.
To call Moore's winter unsuccessful, because he didn't go and get Cano, is ludicrous. Sorry for the snark, but that is just crazy.

I want to think that this is satire, but it just seems too earnest to be anything other than the delusions of a true believer.

"Suzuki has been a good blocker....showing again by blocking Pinto." Very nice, Ben.

Thanks, guys. I enjoyed the analysis.

Learn from Terry Ryan? Hahahahahahahaha! Good one. He's a good scout, but a horrible GM. He shows the appearance of wanting to play moneyball, but he never ends up with anyone decent. Its like he sees someone injured and signs them. "Yes, another injured one, this one will bounce back! Oh, dang, that's guys arm just fell off. Well, back to the drawing board."

The Twins overvalue defense, closers, and the ability to play more than one position, and undervalue the strikeout, home run, and any attitude that doesn't fit in their little box (why do you think Ortiz, Gomez, Lohse, Hardy, and Orlando Hudson weren't retained, and guys like Nick Punto always get 2nd and 3rd and 4th chances?)

And they just have a long extension to Glen Perkins, who is a great closer, but not elite, and its a waste of money to wrap up a closer that long.

Yet still won more AL Central titles in the 00's than he lost. He is far from horrible. One of if not THE most respected GM in the league. After he retires and the team is a contender for 10 straight years during the 2020's, that comment will be funny.

You fail to bring up the trade of AJ P. 'Nuff said

With this outfield, you can't accuse Ryan of overvaluing defense.

Did you black out from 2001-2010? And forget that Ryan was retired while the franchise was destroyed?

Add R.A. Dickey to the list of players run outta town. And Matt Garza.

GMDM's great off-season was built squarely on the shoulders of sticking with Francouer and Getz for an absurdly long time. In fact you can seriously argue they should never have been acquired. Yes GMDM greatly inmproved the team with Aoki and Infante, but is the one who got us in that mess.

If we could have gotten Cano for 7/$210M then maybe you do it. To outbid Seattle at 10/$240 IS insane.

Oh, and PECOTA has jumped the shark. Time to retire that bad boy. It just keeps all teams toward the mean.

I missed that piece on Chris Sale the first time around -- pretty awesome.

He reminds me of Beaky Buzzard.

Hughes' problem was never getting ahead of hitters. If I had a nickel for every 0-2 or 1-2 count that resulted in a BB or XBH I'd be a wealthy man. I loved the guy as much as anyone, I really wanted him to be a home-grown all-star, but watching his ineptitude at putting hitters away year after year got really old. I wish him luck, but I don't think he's gonna be much different of a pitcher.
