  • Padres 2B Jedd Gyorko blasted a two-run homer.
  • Padres SP Ian Kennedy hurled seven innings of two-run ball.
  • Diamondbacks SP Randall Delgado was rocked for six runs on seven hits over five innings.

- 1 at 4 - Cardinals (94-65)
  • Cardinals SP Shelby Miller pitched six innings of one-run ball for his 15th victory.
  • Cardinals RP Trevor Rosenthal pitched a perfect ninth in a three-run game for his third save.
  • Nationals SP Jordan Zimmermann missed out on his 20th win after allowing four runs in seven innings.
  • Cardinals 1B Matt Adams homered and doubled.

- 4 at 0 - Braves (93-65)
(72-86) Phillies - 2 at 3 - Marlins (59-100)
  • SS Adeiny Hechavarria drove in all three of the Marlins' runs.
  • Phillies 2B Freddy Galvis went 3-for-4 with an RBI.
  • Marlins RP Brad Hand allowed two runs over 6 1/3 innings of a no-decision.
  • Phillies SP Cole Hamels allowed two runs over six innings of a no-decision

  • Mets SP Daisuke Matsuzaka won his third straight start by firing 7 2/3 score-less innings.
  • Mets RP LaTroy Hawkins pitched a perfect ninth in a 1-0 game for his 13th save.
  • Reds SP Mat Latos was the hard-luck loser in a 1-0 game after pitching seven innings.
  • Making his third start in center field, Reds OF Billy Hamilton went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts and a caught stealing.
(91-68) Pirates - 2 at 4 - Cubs (66-93)
  • Cubs SP Jake Arrieta pitched six innings of one-run ball.
  • Back in the closer's role for some reason, Kevin Gregg gave up an unearned run but still picked up his 33rd save.
  • Pirates SP Francisco Liriano gave up four runs in five innings.
  • Cubs OF Darnell McDonald hit a three-run homer and doubled twice.
  • Pirates OF Starling Marte went 2-for-4 with three steals
(91-67) Dodgers - 4 at 6 - Giants (73-85)
  • Giants RP Sergio Romo earned his 37th save of the season by tossing a scoreless ninth inning.
  • Giants 3B Pablo Sandoval finished 2-for-3 with a two-run homer.
  • Giants SP Barry Zito yielded two runs -- one earned -- on four hits over five innings.
  • Dodgers SP Ricky Nolasco's regular season finale didn't go as planned, as he was rocked for six runs on eight hits over 5 2/3 innings.
American League:

  • Angels SP Jered Weaver allowed one run in seven innings.
  • Athletics SP Dan Straily surrendered three runs -- one earned -- in 6 2/3 innings.
  • Angels 1B Mark Trumbo went hitless in a seventh straight game.

- 8 at 3 - Yankees (82-76)
  • Rays SP David Price allowed two runs over seven innings.
  • Yankees SP Phil Hughes lasted just two innings, getting charged with three runs on seven hits and a walk.
  • Rays 3B Evan Longoria went 3-for-5 with a pair of homers and four RBI.
  • Yankees SS Eduardo Nunez went 2-for-5 with a solo homer and two runs scored.

  • Rangers 2B Ian Kinsler went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.
  • Rangers OF Leonys Martin hit a three-run double.

  • Rangers SP Martin Perez allowed three runs over seven innings of work in a win.

  • Mariners C Mike Zunino launched a pair of solo homers.
  • Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma's last start of the season was a gem, as he hurled eight shutout innings.
  • Royals SP Ervin Santana coughed up four runs over six innings
(72-86) Blue Jays - 5 at 9 - Orioles (82-76)
  • Orioles 2B Jonathan Schoop went 2-for-3 with a home run and three runs scored.
  • Orioles 2B Ryan Flaherty went 2-for-2 with two home runs and four RBI.
  • Blue Jays C Josh Thole went 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.
  • Orioles SP Bud Norris allowed three runs on seven hits over four innings of a no-decision.
  • Blue Jays RP Esmil Rogers allowed six runs in 4 1/3 innings in a loss

  • Indians OF Michael Brantley went 3-for-5 with a an RBI and a run scored.

  • Yankees activated DH Travis Hafner from the 60-day disabled list.
  • Yankees placed LHP CC Sabathia on 60-day DL, retroactive to September 21, with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain.
  • Tigers placed INF Danny Worth on the 60-day disabled list.
  • Orioles placed 3B Manny Machado on the 60-day disabled list with a torn medial patellar ligament in his left knee.
  • Orioles purchased the contract of OF Jason Pridie from Triple-A Norfolk.

National League:

  • Reds SP Tony Cingrani (back) threw 32 pitches in a bullpen session Wednesday.
  • Giants 2B Marco Scutaro will undergo surgery on Friday to have a pin inserted into his left pinkie finger.
  • X-rays on Rockies C Yorvit Torrealba's right thumb came back negative.
  • Padres SS Ronny Cedeno (head) is likely to return later this week.
  • Brewers 3B Aramis Ramirez (knee) is unlikely to play again this season.
  • Brewers SS Jean Segura wants to test out his right hamstring in New York this weekend during the series versus the Mets.
  • Dodgers OF Andre Ethier has been sent back to Los Angeles to have his left ankle examined by Dr. Neal ElAttrache.
American League:
  • Rays OF Desmond Jennings (hamstring) hit and played catch Tuesday.
  • An X-ray on Blue Jays RP Kyle Drabek's right ankle came back negative.
  • Blue Jays OF Moises Sierra (ankle) is expected back in the lineup Thursday.
  • An MRI on Twins OF Oswaldo Arcia's right knee came back negative.
  • Rangers SP Yu Darvish admitted Tuesday night that he's dealing with an undisclosed physical issue.
  • Orioles 3B Manny Machado (knee) will receive a second opinion on Monday.
  • 1B Mike Napoli (foot) is expected back in the Red Sox' lineup Friday.
  • X-rays on Indians OF Michael Bourn's right wrist came back negative.
  • Twins OF Oswaldo Arcia underwent an MRI on his right knee Wednesday.
  • Tigers SS Jose Iglesias (hand) could return Friday night.
  • Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Wednesday that RP Bruce Rondon's right elbow is "not good."
  • Rays OF Desmond Jennings (hamstring) said a running session went well Wednesday.
