  • Padres C Nick Hundley belted a three-run homer.
  • Padres SP Eric Stults twirled 6 1/3 frames of one-run ball.
  • Diamondbacks SP Brandon McCarthy coughed up four runs on eight hits over six innings.
  • Twins 2B Brian Dozier hit a game-tying homer in the ninth and scored the winning run in the 11th.

– 3 at 4 – Cardinals (92-65)

  • Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright yielded three runs over seven innings for his 18th win.
  • Cardinals RP Trevor Rosenthal retired both batters he faced for his first career save.

  • Reds 1B Joey Votto walked all five times he was up, including once with the bases loaded.

  • In his lone at-bat, Pirates OF Starling Marte homered in the top of the ninth.
  • Pirates SP Charlie Morton blanked the Cubs for seven innings in a no-decision.
  • Aided by an outfield assist, Pirates RP Jason Grilli got the final two outs.
  • Cubs RP Kevin Gregg took his sixth loss after giving up a ninth-inning homer in a tie game.

American League:

  • Tigers SP Justin Verlander fanned 12 in six scoreless innings.
  • Tigers RP Joaquin Benoit took his first blown save of the season after giving up a Brian Dozier homer in the ninth.
  • Tigers OF Torii Hunter went 3-for-6 with a couple of doubles to push his average back up to .300.

  • Athletics SS Jed Lowrie crushed a three-run homer.

Injury Updates:

National League:

  • Phillies SP Roy Halladay (arm) will not pitch again this season.
  • Cardinals 1B Allen Craig (foot) is likely to undergo an X-ray when he is re-evaluated Thursday.
  • Reds SP Mat Latos revealed Monday that he's pitched with an abdominal strain since June 30.
  • Mets manager Terry Collins said Monday that SP Matt Harvey (elbow) has yet to resume throwing.
  • Reds SP Tony Cingrani (back) threw 25 pitches off a mound Monday without pain.

American League:

  • Rays OF Desmond Jennings has been diagnosed with a mild left hamstring strain and is considered day-to-day.
  • Yankees SP CC Sabathia has been shut down for the remainder of the 2013 season with a left hamstring strain.
  • Tigers SS Jose Iglesias (hand) was available to pinch-run Sunday.
  • Angels SP Jered Weaver (forearm) threw a bullpen session with no issues Monday.
  • Tigers RP Phil Coke (elbow) threw a bullpen session Monday.
  • Royals SP James Shields (arm) played catch Monday and expects to be fine for his next scheduled start on Friday.
  • Athletics OF Yoenis Cespedes will test out his right shoulder with some throwing on Monday.
  • Orioles 2B Alexi Casilla (head) will undergo a CT scan.
  • Orioles 3B Manny Machado will undergo an MRI on his left knee on Tuesday in Baltimore.
  • Twins general manager Terry Ryan announced Monday that C Joe Mauer (concussion) will be shut down for the rest of the season.

  • SP Adam Wainwright is only penciled in to pitch Sunday in the Cardinals' regular-season finale.
  • Pirates manager Clint Hurdle confirmed Monday that RP Jason Grilli will continue to serve as closer.

American League:

  • Rays SP Enny Romero could be used in relief this week.
  • SP Jake Odorizzi could start for the Rays in Friday night's series-opener at Rogers Centre in Toronto.
