  • Padres SP Robbie Erlin ptched 7 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out seven.
  • Dodgers SP Edinson Volquez took a loss after allowing two runs -- one earned -- in 6 1/3 innings

- 6 at 5 - Pirates (88-66) (10 innings)
  • Reds 1B Joey Votto belted a solo homer in the 10th inning.
  • Reds SP Mat Latos struggled in a no-decision, allowing four runs on eight hits over his six innings.
  • Pirates 2B Neil Walker belted his 12th home run of the season in a losing effort.
  • Pirates RP Mark Melancon picked up his second blown save in the last three days, when he was unable to protect a three-run advantage.
  • Pirates SP Francisco Liriano twirled another gem, allowing two runs on three hits over his eight innings of work, but was handed a no-decision after Mark Melancon blew a save in the ninth inning.

  • Brewers SP Johnny Hellweg allowed two runs over five innings in a no-decision.
  • Cardinals 1B Matt Adams finished 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBI, and a walk.

  • Cubs SP Scott Baker surrendered five runs in four innings in a no-decision.
  • Coming on in a tie game, Cubs RP Kevin Gregg gave up four runs after an intentional walk in the ninth to take his fifth loss.
  • Braves OF Jason Heyward went 0-for-2 with a walk and a run scored.
  • Cubs C Dioner Navarro hit his 13th homer.

  • Athletics SP Bartolo Colon struck out eight in six innings and combined with two relievers on a shutout.

  • Blue Jays RP Esmil Rogers was yanked after just 2 1/3 innings after allowing a pair of runs on three hits and five walks.

  • Tigers OF Torii Hunter went 4-for-5 with a double and three RBI.
  • Tigers SP Max Scherzer became Major League baseball’s first 20 game winner of the 2013 season.

  • White Sox SP Dylan Axelrod was obliterated, surrendering seven runs on 10 hits in just 2 2/3 innings of work.

  • Cubs C Welington Castillo needs season-ending surgery to repair a partial meniscus tear in his right knee.
  • Cardinals RP Joe Kelly (calf) has been cleared to start Sunday in Milwaukee.
  • Phillies SP Kyle Kendrick (shoulder) has been shut down for the rest of the season.
  • Brewers manager Ron Roenicke indicated Thursday that SS Jean Segura (hamstring) will be sidelined for a while longer.
  • Rockies OF Michael Cuddyer (forearm) indicated that he will return to the Rockies starting lineup on Sunday.
  • Giants 3B Joaquin Arias tweaked his hamstring.
  • Nationals OF Jayson Werth left Friday's game against the Marlins due to tired legs.
  • Dodgers SP Chris Capuano (groin) successfully threw off flat ground on Friday.
  • Dodgers manager Don Mattingly indicated Friday that he expects SS Hanley Ramirez to play in only three or four of the team's nine remaining games.
  • Rockies C Wilin Rosario (calf) hopes to return to the Rockies lineup before the end of the season, but has not yet been cleared to do so.
  • Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez received a cortisone shot in his injured right middle finger on Friday, and will see how well that works before making a decision on whether or not to undergo surgery.
  • Giants 2B Marco Scutaro (finger) could DH this weekend against the Yankees.
  • Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg (forearm) is officially starting Saturday against the Marlins.
  • Reds SP Tony Cingrani (back) still feels some discomfort when he throws off the mound.

American League:


  • Mariners SS Brad Miller (hamstring) is getting closer to a return to the lineup.
  • Twins C Joe Mauer (concussion) had a positive workout at Target Field Thursday.
  • Mariners SP Erasmo Ramirez was forced to leave Friday's start against the Angels due to a tight right groin muscle.
  • Blue Jays OF Colby Rasmus will undergo a CT scan on Friday to determine the severity of his injury.
  • Rangers OF Jeff Baker is currently dealing with a sports hernia and will be limited to DH and pinch-hitting duties against left-handed pitching for the remainder of the season.
  • Athletics 1B Nate Freiman is expected to miss the next few games as he's dealing with a strained muscle in his abdomen.
  • Angels SP Jered Weaver (forearm) was able to avoid an MRI exam, and hopes to make his next scheduled start on Wednesday.
  • OF Yoenis Cespedes (shoulder) will continue to serve as the A's DH when he's in the lineup, as he's still "at least a few days" away from returning to the outfield.
  • Orioles SP Miguel Gonzalez (groin) will start Saturday against the Rays.
  • Red Sox OF Jacoby Ellsbury (foot) has resumed baseball activities.
  • Yankees RP Boone Logan (elbow) is available Friday.
  • Indians SP Justin Masterson (oblique) threw 33 pitches off a mound Friday.
