  • Diamondbacks 1B Paul Goldschmidt went 2-for-4 with a walk, home run, stolen base and two RBI.
  • Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig finished 3-for-4 with a double and a solo homer.
  • Diamondbacks SP Brandon McCarthy surrendered three runs on 10 hits over six innings.
  • Dodgers SP Stephen Fife was rocked for four runs on six hits over just 2 1/3 innings.

  • Padres RP Tyson Ross was terrific, allowing just two runs on three hits while striking out seven over seven frames.
  • Pirates RP Mark Melancon blew his third save of the season, allowing two runs on four hits.
  • Pirates SP Charlie Morton received a no-decision despite tossing a gem, allowing one run over eight frames.
  • Pirates OF Andrew McCutchen hit a go-head, two-run homer in the seventh inning

  • Braves OF Justin Upton slugged his 26th home run of the season.
  • Nationals RP Ross Ohlendorf surrendered three earned runs over six innings.
  • Nationals OF Denard Span extended his hitting streak to 29 games.

  • Marlins SP Nathan Eovaldi allowed three runs -- two earned -- on four hits and four walks over just five frames but got a no-decision.
  • Marlins RP Steve Cishek notched his 31st save in nailbiting fashion, loading the bases before escaping trouble.
  • Phillies RP Zach Miner tossed three scoreless innings in a spot start.
  • Marlins 3B Ed Lucas ripped a go-ahead solo homer in the 10th inning.
(70-82) Giants - 4 at 5 - Mets (68-83)
  • Mets 1B Josh Satin delivered a walk-off two-run single to cap a four-run ninth inning.
  • Giants RP Sergio Romo sustained his fifth blown save of the season and took the loss.
  • Mets RP Carlos Torres threw two scoreless innings, striking out four, in a relief appearance.
  • Giants SP Matt Cain allowed just an unearned run over 7 2/3 innings, settling for a no-decision.
  • Mets SP Aaron Harang allowed four runs -- three earned -- while striking out eight over five innings
American League:

  • Despite not recording a strikeout, Twins SP Scott Diamond picked up a win after allowing three runs in 6 1/3 innings.
  • Twins OF Clete Thomas went 0-for-3, extending his streak of games without an RBI to 44.
  • White Sox OF Alejandro De Aza hit his 16th homer.

  • Angels OF Josh Hamilton hit a game-tying homer in the ninth and delivered a go-ahead sac fly in the 11th.
  • Athletics RP Grant Balfour took his third blown save after giving up a two-run homer.
  • Athletics OF Coco Crisp added to his career high with his 20th homer.

  • Yankees OF Vernon Wells went 2-for-4 with a two-run double.

  • Padres 1B Yonder Alonso (hand) acknowledged Tuesday that he might not play again this season.
  • Cubs prospect outfielder Jorge Soler (leg) is preparing for the Arizona Fall League.
  • Dodgers SP Edinson Volquez is expected to start on Friday against the Padres despite a blister on his right thumb.
  • Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez visited a hand specialist Wednesday and still intends to undergo surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right middle finger.
  • Rockies OF Michael Cuddyer left Wednesday's game against the Cardinals with a bruised right forearm.
  • Cardinals 1B Matt Adams left Wednesday's game against the Rockies with a right elbow injury.
  • Mets SS Ruben Tejada is out for the second after suffering a broken right fibula during Wednesday's win over the Giants.
  • Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg's (forearm) next start has been pushed back from Thursday to Saturday.
  • Brewers SS Jean Segura left Wednesday's game against the Cubs with a strained right hamstring.
  • Dodgers SP Chris Capuano (groin) has been given a platlet-rich plasma injection.
  • Dodgers OF Andre Ethier (ankle) could resume workouts on the field this weekend.
  • Dodgers SS Hanley Ramirez is expected to sit out a second straight game Thursday.
  • The finger injury Giants 2B Marco Scutaro is dealing with is actually to his left ring finger, not the pinkie that he originally hurt back in June.
  • Mets manager Terry Collins said that RP Frank Francisco (thumb) is still "a day or so off" from returning.

  • The Rays will decide Wednesday whether RP Jesse Crain (shoulder) is ready to be activated from the disabled list.
  • Red Sox OF Shane Victorino left Wednesday's game against the Orioles with a jammed right thumb.
  • Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma will make one more star this season.
  • Indians SP Justin Masterson (oblique) will throw a bullpen session Friday.
  • Tigers RP Octavio Dotel was recently given a platelet-rich plasma injection for his tight right forearm.
  • Tigers RP Bruce Rondon (elbow) had a successful long-toss session Wednesday but is still several days away from appearing in a game.
