  • Diamondbacks RP Brad Ziegler notched his 10th save, tossing a perfect ninth inning.
  • Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig smacked his 16th homer of the year.
  • Diamondbacks SP Patrick Corbin allowed only one run over 6 1/3 frames.
  • Dodgers SP Hyun-Jin Ryu wasn't sharp in his return to the mound, allowing three runs on 10 hits over six innings

- 2 at 5 - Marlins (54-90)
(62-83) Cubs
- 0 at 6 - Reds (83-64)
  • Reds SP Mike Leake struck out six in 5 2/3 innings and combined with four relievers on a shutout.
  • Cubs SP Jeff Samardzija gave up six runs for the season straight outing.
  • Reds C Devin Mesoraco went 3-for-4 and hit his ninth homer.

Mets

  • Nationals SP Dan Haren allowed just one hit over six innings.
  • Nationals RP Rafael Soriano pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his 41st save of the season.
  • Mets SP Zack Wheeler allowed one run in seven innings but took the loss.
  • Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman went 2-for-5 with a home run and a stolen base.

- 3 at 4 - Giants (66-80)
  • Giants RP Santiago Casilla worked a scoreless ninth for the save.
  • Giants SP Yusmeiro Petit followed up his near-perfect game by allowing three runs over 5 2/3 innings
(66-78) Padres
- 2 at 4 - Phillies (67-78)
  • Phillies SP Cliff Lee struck out nine while allowing two runs over eight innings.
  • Padres SP Eric Stults allowed two runs on six hits over six innings.
  • Phillies 2B Freddy Galvis went 3-for-3 with a solo homer and two RBI.
  • Making his first start in the majors, Padres 1B Tommy Medica connected for his first hit and first home run
(62-82) Brewers
- 1 at 5 - Cardinals (85-60)
  • Cardinals SP Lance Lynn surrendered just one (unearned) run in six innings.
  • Cardinals 1B Matt Adams slugged a two-run homer.
  • Brewers SP Marco Estrada allowed one run in 6 2/3 innings
American League:
(77-69) Royals - 6 at 2 - Indians (77-68)
  • Royals SP James Shields pitched eight innings of two-run ball.
  • Royals OF Lorenzo Cain went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two steals.
  • Indians OF Drew Stubbs went hitless in a fourth straight game.

  • Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez struck out 10 batters over 7 1/3 scoreless innings.
  • White Sox 2B Leury Garcia went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases.
  • Tigers 2B Omar Infante went 2-for-4 with the team's lone RBI.
  • White Sox SP Jose Quintana pitched seven scoreless innings but took a no-decision.

  • Yankees SP Andy Pettitte notched a quality start, allowing three runs over 6 1/3 frames
  • Orioles SP Scott Feldman allowed three runs over 7 2/3 innings.
  • Yankees 2B Robinson Cano singled and belted a go-ahead, solo homer.
(50-96) Astros - 6 at 1 - Mariners (65-81)
  • Astros 3B Matt Dominguez went 2-for-3 with a walk, two doubles and two runs scored.
  • Mariners DH Kendrys Morales finished 2-for-3 with a walk and a homer.
  • Astros SP Brad Peacock hurled six innings of one-run ball, scattering three hits.
  • Mariners SP Brandon Maurer was blasted for five runs on seven hits over just three innings.
(69-76) Angels - 5 at 4 - Blue Jays (67-78)
  • Angels SP C.J. Wilson gave up four runs -- three earned -- over seven innings to earn the win.
  • Blue Jays OF Moises Sierra went 3-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs scored.
  • Angels OF Josh Hamilton went 3-for-3 with a run scored.
  • Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey allowed four runs in 5 1/3 innings of a no-decision.
(89-58) Red Sox
- 7 at 3 - Rays (78-66) (10 innings)
  • Red Sox OF Mike Carp hit a pinch-hit grand slam in the 10th inning.
  • Rays 3B Evan Longoria went 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI.
  • Red Sox SP Ryan Dempster allowed one run over five innings in a no-decision.
  • Rays SP Alex Cobb allowed three runs over 5 2/3 innings of a no-decision.

- 18 at 3 - Twins (63-81)
  • Athletics SS Jed Lowrie went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI.
  • Athletics OF Yoenis Cespedes went 2-for-3 with three RBI.
  • Athletics C Stephen Vogt went 3-for-6 with a home run and three RBI.
  • Athletics 1B Brandon Moss went 3-for-5 with three runs scored.
  • Twins SP Mike Pelfrey allowed seven runs over three innings.

  • Pirates 1B Justin Morneau went 4-for-5 with a double and two runs scored.
  • With Mark Melancon in need of the day off, Pirates RP Kyle Farnsworth got the save chance and pitched a perfect ninth in a two-run game.
  • Rangers SP Matt Garza was pulled after allowing three runs and walking four in four innings.
  • Rangers SS Elvis Andrus singled twice and knocked in three runs.
Player Transactions:

National League:
  • Dodgers purchased the contract of LHP Onelki Garcia from Triple-A Albuquerque.
  • Dodgers transferred RHP Shawn Tolleson from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
  • Rockies acquired LHP Yoely Bello from the Yankees as the player to be named later from the Chris Nelson trade.
American League:
  • Yankees designated RHP Jim Miller for assignment.
  • Yankees placed SS Derek Jeter on the 15-day disabled list with a left ankle injury.
Injury Updates:

National League:

  • Reds SP Johnny Cueto (back) threw a 60-pitch live batting practice session on Wednesday morning.
  • An MRI on Braves SP Paul Maholm's left elbow came back negative.
  • Dodgers SP Chris Capuano (groin) threw off a mound Wednesday.
  • 3B David Wright (hamstring) could return to the Mets' lineup by the middle of next week.
  • Brewers OF Khris Davis (wrist) could return to the lineup Thursday.
  • Dodgers OF Matt Kemp (ankle) ran on a treadmill Wednesday.
  • SP Roy Oswalt will take Chad Bettis' spot in the Rockies' rotation.
  • Nationals SP Ross Detwiler (back) threw a successful 30-pitch bullpen session on Wednesday afternoon.
  • Mets 3B Justin Turner was diagnosed Wednesday with a slight strain of his right hamstring.
American League
  • The Astros don't have a timetable for OF Robbie Grossman's (oblique) return.
  • C Jason Castro (knee) remains out of Houston's lineup.
  • Angels RP Robert Coello's (shoulder) rehab assignment has moved to Triple-A Salt Lake.
  • Yankees manager Joe Girardi said on Tuesday that SS Derek Jeter (ankle) is in a "holding pattern."
  • Angels 3B Chris Nelson (hamstring) could be activated from the disabled list next week.
  • Yankees C Austin Romine has been diagnosed with a "slight" concussion.
  • Twins C Joe Mauer was sent home after his concussion symptoms returned after a workout Wednesday.
  • Blue Jays manager John Gibbons suggested Wednesday that 1B Edwin Encarnacion (wrist) may be done for the year.
