  • Diamondbacks RP Brad Ziegler earned his first save since August 7 by tossing a perfect ninth.
  • Diamondbacks 1B Paul Goldschmidt went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run scored.
  • Diamondbacks SP Trevor Cahill yielded two runs on six hits over five innings.
  • Giants SP Ryan Vogelsong was chased out of the park after 4 2/3 innings having allowed four runs on eight hits.
(80-60) Cardinals - 2 at 6 - Reds (79-62)
  • Cardinals 3B David Freese singled and belted a solo homer.
  • Reds SP Tony Cingrani allowed two runs over 5 1/3 frames.
  • Cardinals SP Lance Lynn didn't have it again, getting charged with four runs on seven hits and four walks over five innings.
  • Reds 3B Todd Frazier launched a pair of solo homers.
American League:
(85-57) Red Sox - 9 at 8 - Yankees (75-65) (10 innings)
  • Red Sox OF Shane Victorino homered in the fifth and delivered a go-ahead single in the 10th.
  • Red Sox SP Jake Peavy surrendered four runs in six-plus innings.
  • Yankees SP Ivan Nova was removed after giving up three runs in four innings.
  • Yankees RP Mariano Rivera blew his sixth save after giving up a run in the ninth.
  • Yankees 1B Lyle Overbay had a two-run single and his first stolen base since 2011.
(56-83) White Sox - 1 at 3 - Orioles (74-65)
  • Orioles SP Miguel Gonzalez allowed one run in seven innings and striking out six
  • Orioles OF Adam Jones reached 30 homers and 100 RBI for the season.
  • Orioles SS J.J. Hardy went 2-for-3 and hit his 25th homer.
(47-93) Astros - 3 at 2 - Athletics (80-60)
  • Astros RP Josh Fields worked 1 1/3 scoreless innings to record his third save of the season.
  • Astros SP Brad Peacock fired seven innings of one-run ball, striking out nine.
  • Athletics SP Sonny Gray surrendered three runs -- two earned -- on seven hits over eight innings.
(77-62) Rays - 2 at 6 - Angels (65-74)
  • Angels OF Josh Hamilton rapped a pair of singles, drove in a run and scored two more.
  • Angels SP Jerome Williams worked 6 1/3 innings of two-run ball.
  • Rays SP David Price was roughed up for six runs on 11 hits over seven innings.

  • Cubs sent OF Dave Sappelt outright to Triple-A Iowa.
  • Nationals claimed INF Mauro Gomez off waivers from the Blue Jays.
  • Reds activated LHP Tony Cingrani from the 15-day disabled list.
  • Marlins sent OF Jordan Brown outright to Triple-A New Orleans.
  • Braves recalled RHP David Hale from Triple-A Gwinnett.
  • Giants released UTIL Kensuke Tanaka.
American League:

Injury Updates:


National League:

  • Padres 1B Yonder Alonso was given a pain-killing injection in his injured right hand on Wednesday.
  • Phillies OF Domonic Brown (heel) won't do any baseball-related activities for at least another week.
  • Rockies 3B Nolan Arenado (thumb) is considered day-to-day.
  • Pirates SP Wandy Rodriguez (elbow, forearm) is scheduled to make a rehab start Friday with Triple-A Indianapolis.
  • OF Matt Kemp (ankle) played in a simulated game Wednesday at the Dodgers' spring training complex.
  • An MRI conducted on Cardinals 1B Allen Craig revealed no fracture in his injured left foot.
  • Reds 2B Brandon Phillips left Thursday's game against the Cardinals with a bruised left quad.
  • Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said Thursday that SP Johnny Cueto (back) would likely return as a reliever initially.
  • Giants C Buster Posey underwent an X-ray on his right ring finger Thursday.
  • Giants RP Chad Gaudin (carpal tunnel syndrome) played long-toss from 90 feet Thursday.
  • Reds SP Mat Latos limped to the clubhouse Thursday after being hit by a Bronson Arroyo batting practice foul ball on his right lower leg.
American League:
  • Royals C The Royals announced that Salvador Perez is experiencing "mild dizziness."
  • RP Jesse Crain (shoulder) is scheduled to throw off a mound this weekend when the Rays are in Seattle
  • Mariners SP Felix Hernandez (back) won't start until Wednesday.
  • Astros C Carlos Corporan (concussion) will begin a rehab assignment Thursday with Double-A Corpus Christi.
  • Yankees RP Shawn Kelley will be unavailable until next week due to a triceps issue.
  • Yankees SP Michael Pineda (shoulder) isn't expected to be an option for the Yankees this season.
  • Yankees SP David Phelps (elbow) will throw a bullpen session before the end of the week.
  • Astros C Jason Castro (knee) took batting practice Thursday.
  • Astros 3B Matt Dominguez has sat out the last three games due to a sinus infection.
  • Yankees 3B Kevin Youkilis (back) has begun to take dry swings.
  • Yankees DH Travis Hafner (shoulder) recently played in a simulated game.
  • Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz (shoulder) was charged with two runs on four hits and two walks over 3 2/3 frames in his final rehab start with Triple-A Pawtucket Thursday.
  • Athletics OF Josh Reddick (wrist) will take live batting practice by this weekend or early next week.
  • White Sox C Tyler Flowers will need 2-3 months of recovery time after undergoing exploratory surgery on his right shoulder Thursday.
  • Twins C Joe Mauer (concussion) is not close to returning to the lineup.
  • Yankees OF Zoilo Almonte (ankle) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Trenton on Thursday.
