  • Padres OF Cameron Maybin is scheduled to undergo surgery on his right wrist in the near future.
  • Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said OF Jordan Schafer (back) should be ready to play on Friday.
  • Braves OF Reed Johnson (Achilles) hopes to return later this month, but he realizes time is running out on his chance to participate in the playoffs.
  • Pirates SP James McDonald (shoulder) has been sent to Triple-A Indianapolis to begin a rehab assignment.
  • Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said that the final decision rests with SP Matt Harvey as to whether the young right-hander will undergo Tommy John surgery.
  • Mets 1B Ike Davis (oblique) received an anti-inflammatory injection Tuesday.
  • Phillies SP Cole Hamels left Monday's start prematurely due to back discomfort.
  • Pirates OF Starling Marte (hand) remains unable to throw with full effort or swing two-handed.
  • Rockies SP Roy Oswalt (hamstring) will be activated from the disabled list and appear in Sunday's game in San Diego.
  • Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said late Wednesday night that 1B Allen Craig will head back to St. Louis to "get a closer look" at his sprained left foot.
  • Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood (thumb) has been cleared to start on Saturday against the Padres after throwing a successful bullpen session Wednesday.
  • Rockies 3B Nolan Arenado left Wednesday's game against the Dodgers with a thumb injury.
  • Nationals manager Davey Johnson revealed Wednesday that SP Stephen Strasburg has dealt with minor hamstring soreness for a "couple starts."
  • Dodgers SP Hyun-Jin Ryu will not start Friday in Cincinnati due to middle back stiffness.
  • Cardinals C Tony Cruz (forearm) took batting practice Wednesday.
  • Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said that SP Wandy Rodriguez (forearm, elbow) threw his best bullpen session yet on Tuesday.
American League:
  • Orioles SP Jason Hammel (forearm) is on track to be activated from the disabled list on Thursday.
  • Royals OF Lorzeo Cain (oblique) is scheduled to take a normal round of batting practice on Friday.
  • Rangers SS Elvis Andrus (back) was out of the starting lineup for a fourth straight day on Wednesday.
  • Athletics C Derek Norris (toe) confirmed that he's ready for a Thursday activation from the disabled list.
  • The Blue Jays have shut OF Jose Bautista (hip) down for the season.
  • Twins SP Kyle Gibson has been placed on the Triple-A DL with a right groin strain.
  • Astros C Jason Castro told the media that his sprained right knee is improving.
  • Indians manager Terry Francona admitted that OF Ryan Raburn isn't entirely healed.
  • Indians SP Corey Kluber (finger) will start Saturday against the Mets.
  • Twins SP Mike Pelfrey's velocity continues to improve.
  • White Sox RP Ramon Troncoso (chest) threw close to 40 pitches in a simulated game Wednesday.

  • Nationals RP Tanner Roark will make his first career MLB start on Saturday in Miami against the Marlins.
  • Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said rookie shortstop Chris Owings will receive playing time in September.
  • Cubs manager Dale Sveum said RP Pedro Strop could be used in save situations this month.
  • The Nationals elected not to promote 2B Danny Espinosa when rosters expanded because they didn't want him to sit on the bench.
  • If the Marlins stick with their stated goal of shutting SP Jose Fernandez down around 170 innings, he will only make a maximum of two more starts.
  • Padres SP Andrew Cashner's next start will come on Tuesday against the Phillies.
  • Padres SP Joe Wieland (elbow) is hoping to pitch in winter ball.
  • Cardinals RP Michael Wacha will start on Sunday against the Pirates.

  • Astros RP Josh Zeid is experimenting with a new arm angle.
  • Astros SS Jonathan Villar vowed to stay aggressive on the base paths on Wednesday, one day after he was yanked in the second inning against Minnesota for a miscue.
  • Angels SP Tommy Hanson has coughed up 14 runs over 19 2/3 innings since he was demoted to Triple-A.
  • Yankees RP David Huff will start on Saturday against the Red Sox in Phil Hughes' place.
  • 1B Paul Konerko has been telling friends that he wants to return to the White Sox next year, reports Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY.
  • Indians RP Josh Tomlin may draw a start this month.
  • Yankees RP Mariano Rivera reiterated that he won't change his mind about retiring after this season.
