  • Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo went 2-for-4 and hit his 21st homer.

  • Indians 1B Nick Swisher went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a run scored.
  • Indians SP Zach McAllister had a rough night, surrendering five runs on six hits in just 3 2/3 innings of work.

  • Mariners SP Taijuan Walker had a successful major league debut, giving up an unearned run over five innings.
  • Astros SP Brad Peacock surrendered five runs over 4 2/3 innings in a loss.
  • Mariners 2B Dustin Ackley's hot hitting continued, as he finished 4-for-5 with four RBI.
  • Astros OF L.J. Hoes finished 2-for-4.

  • Yankees OF Ichiro Suzuki finished 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk.
  • Yankees SP CC Sabathia notched the win, despite giving up five runs over 5 2/3 innings.
  • Orioles SP Miguel Gonzalez was tagged for a season-high seven runs in four-plus innings.
  • Yankees 2B Robinson Cano (hand) went 2-for-3 with two RBI, two runs scored, and a walk in his return to action.
  • Orioles DH Danny Valencia went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer.

  • Blue Jays SP Mark Buehrle wrapped up an impressive August with seven scoreless innings in a victory.
  • Royals 2B Emilio Bonifacio went 1-for-4 with an RBI and swiped his 21st base of the season.
  • Royals SP Ervin Santana pitched well in a losing effort, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits in his seven innings of work.
  • Blue Jays RP Casey Janssen worked himself into a jam, allowing a pair of singles in the ninth inning, before escaping with his 25th save of the season.
(58-75) Twins - 3 at 2 - Rangers (78-56)
  • Twins 1B Justin Morneau launched a go-ahead solo homer.
  • Twins SP Liam Hendriks earned his first win of the season allowing two runs (one earned) over six innings.
  • Rangers SP Yu Darvish allowed three runs over 6 2/3 innings.
  • Rangers 2B Jurickson Profar hit a solo homer.

Inter League:

  • Angels OF Kole Calhoun, hitting cleanup in Mike Scioscia's lineup in place of Josh Hamilton, belted a homer.
  • Angels SP Jered Weaver was excellent again, hurling six scoreless innings while scattering just three singles.
  • Brewers C Martin Maldonado had another rough night at the plate, going 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout.
  • Brewers SP Wily Peralta delivered a quality start in a loss, allowing three runs on just four hits over his six-plus innings of work.

Injury Updates:

National League:

  • Padres SP Cory Luebke (elbow) threw 30 pitches in a bullpen session on Friday, the second such session he's had this week.
  • OF Kyle Blanks (heel) could return to the Padres when rosters expand on Sunday.
  • 3B Chase Headley reported improvement in his injured back on Friday and could return to the Padres lineup as early as Saturday.
  • While he still isn't performing baseball activities, the Padres received good news regarding injured outfielder Cameron Maybin on Friday, that he will not require knee surgery.
  • Padres OF Carlos Quentin will undergo his season-ending knee surgery on Tuesday.
  • Giants manager Bruce Bochy indicated Friday that he will be very cautious initially with OF Angel Pagan, giving him plenty of rest.
  • SP Matt Cain (forearm) is aiming to return to the Giants rotation on September 7 against the Diamondbacks.
  • Giants activated OF Angel Pagan from the 60-day disabled list.
  • Phillies OF Domonic Brown (Achilles) said after Friday's game that he was feeling pretty sore.
  • Rockies OF Dexter Fowler said Friday than an MRI revealed that he has a sprain behind his left knee.
  • Mets manager Terry Collins said Friday that he hopes 3B David Wright (hamstring) will be able to DH with High-A St. Lucie on Monday.
  • Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez (finger) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Saturday with Triple-A Colorado Springs.
  • Braves OF Reed Johnson (Achilles) is still not feeling strong enough to attempt to sprint.
  • Braves OF Jason Heyward (jaw) received clearance from a doctor Thursday to begin light exercises.
  • Mets RP Frank Francisco (elbow) will continue his rehab assignment with Double-A Binghamton.
  • Pirates SP Wandy Rodriguez (forearm) is slated to throw about 15-20 fastballs on Sunday.
  • Pirates RP Jason Grilli (forearm) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Saturday with Double-A Altoona.
  • 3B Cody Asche (hamstring) remained out of the Phillies' lineup Friday.
  • An MRI on Rockies OF Dexter Fowler's left knee came back negative.
  • Dodgers OF Matt Kemp went 0-for-5 with a strikeout in his first rehab game with High-A Rancho Cucamonga on Thursday.
American League:
  • Twins general manager Terry Ryan said OF Oswaldo Arcia (wrist) did not try swinging on Friday because the team wanted to give him one more day to rest his injured wrist.
  • SP Neftali Feliz will be activated from the disabled list and return to the Rangers when rosters expand on Sunday.
  • Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz lasted 3 1/3 innings during his second minor league rehab start with Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday, allowing one run on seven hits.
  • Tigers 3B Miguel Cabrera is listed as day-to-day with irritation in his abdominal area.
  • Athletics C Derek Norris (toe) will being a minor league rehab assignment with Class-A Stockton on Saturday.
  • Angels 2B Howie Kendrick (knee) was able to run the bases at close to full speed on Friday, but will not be activated from the disabled list over the weekend.
  • Rangers SP Alexi Ogando (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Saturday.
  • Rangers SP Nick Tepesch (elbow) will throw around 55 pitches during his second minor league rehab start with Double-A Frisco on Friday.
  • Twins general manager Terry Ryan said that C Joe Mauer "ramped it up" on Friday and hopes to hit off a tee on Saturday.
  • Twins SP Samuel Deduno underwent an MRI which revealed issues with his labrum and rotator cuff.
  • Twins OF Wilkin Ramirez will not require surgery for a fractured left tibia.
  • Orioles SP Jason Hammel (forearm) will make his next minor league rehab start Tuesday with Class A Aberdeen.
  • Indians SP Corey Kluber (finger) threw a bullpen session Friday.

  • Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that RP Rafael Betancourt indicated that if he underwent Tommy John surgery, he'd only be interested in returning to the Rockies.
