  • White Sox OF Avisail Garcia homered and drove home three runs, providing more than enough run support for Chris Sale.
  • White Sox SP Chris Sale was in dominant form, racking up 12 strikeouts while allowing just one run on four hits over eight innings.
  • Astros OF Chris Carter belted his 26th home run of the season.
  • Astros SP Jarred Cosart turned in a quality start, allowing just one run on seven hits in his six frames.
(78-55) Rangers - 12 at 4 - Mariners (59-73)
  • Rangers OF Leonys Martin had a three-run homer and an RBI single.
  • Mariners SP Felix Hernandez was torched for nine runs -- eight earned -- in three-plus innings.
  • Rangers 1B Mitch Moreland hit his 20th homer.
  • Mariners 1B Justin Smoak went hitless in a fifth straight game.

  • Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

  • Red Sox SP John Lackey allowed three runs in 7 1/3 innings of a no-decision.
  • Orioles SP Bud Norris allowed one run over 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision.

  • Royals C Salvador Perez blasted a pair of two-run homers.
  • Royals SP Danny Duffy was outstanding, tossing 6 2/3 scoreless innings and racking up seven strikeouts.
  • Twins SS Pedro Florimon was one of the lone bright spots offensively, going 2-for-3 with a pair of stolen bases.
  • Twins SP Andrew Albers pitched well in a losing effort, surrendering three runs (two earned) on six hits over his seven innings of work

  • Mariners purchased the contract of RHP Taijuan Walker from Triple-A Tacoma.
Injury Updates:

National League:

  • Pirates RP Jason Grilli (forearm) threw a successful 25-pitch simulated game on Wednesday afternoon.
  • Pirates SP Wandy Rodriguez (forearm) may be able to begin a minor league rehab assignment in the near future.
  • Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said that SP Matt Harvey will rest three weeks before undergoing more tests on his elbow.
  • 3B Luis Valbuena (oblique) went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and a walk in his first rehab game with the Cubs' Arizona League affiliate on Tuesday.
  • Mets SP Jenrry Mejia underwent elbow surgery on Wednesday.
  • Phillies 3B Cody Asche is considered day-to-day after he was diagnosed with a mild left hamstring strain.
  • Dodgers OF Matt Kemp (ankle) will begin his minor league rehab assignment with High-A Rancho Cucamonga on Thursday.
  • Padres OF Carlos Quentin will be shut down for the remainder of the 2013 season with a strained right knee.
  • SP Tyler Chatwood (elbow) felt good after Tuesday's minor league rehab start at Triple-A Colorado Springs, and is in line to rejoin the Rockies' starting rotation on Sunday.
  • Rockies OF Dexter Fowler (knee) is scheduled to undergo an MRI on his ailing left knee.
American League:
  • Blue Jays SP Josh Johnson (forearm) will not pitch again this season.
  • Mariners C Mike Zunino (hand) went 1-for-2 with a triple and a walk on Tuesday in his first rehab game with Triple-A Tacoma.
  • Rangers SP Nick Tepesch (elbow) allowed one run over two-plus innings Tuesday in his first minor league rehab start with Double-A Frisco.
  • Rays manager Joe Maddon said Wednesday that RP Jesse Crain (shoulder) is "kinda stuck" in his rehab.
  • Red Sox OF Jacoby Ellsbury's X-rays on his injured foot came back negative on Wednesday.
  • Yankees SS Eduardo Nunez (knee) will undergo an MRI on Thursday to determine the extent of his injury.
  • Angels 3B Chris Nelson will be placed on the disabled list on Thursday due to a strained right hamstring sustained in Wednesday's loss to the Rays.
  • OF Oswaldo Arcia (wrist) is still considered day-to-day, but will travel with the Twins for their upcoming weekend series against the Rangers in Arlington.
  • Twins C Joe Mauer (concussion) has shown improvement in recent days, but will not travel with the team for their weekend series against Texas.
Notes & Rumors:

National League:

  • Braves RP Jordan Walden will be unavailable for the next couple of games due to a minor league issue.
  • Pirates SP Jeff Locke is still listed as the starting pitcher for Sunday against the Cardinals.
  • Bill Ladson of MLB.com was told by a source that the Nationals are trying to trade 2B Danny Espinosa.
  • Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig said after Wednesday's game against the Cubs that he was pulled in the fifth inning because he "wasn't ready on defense" for every pitch.
  • Nationals' manager Davey Johnson indicated Wednesday that RP Ross Ohlendorf could finish the season in the bullpen.
American League:
  • Blue Jays SP Ricky Romero gave up five runs (four earned) on five hits and six walks over 6 1/3 innings with Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday.
  • Astros OF George Springer has been named as the Texas League Player of the Year for his tremendous offensive production at Double-A Corpus Christi.
  • C Josmil Pinto is expected to be recalled by the Twins when rosters expand in September.
