  • Brewers SP Yovani Gallardo posted a quality start in a no-decision, surrendering three runs on six hits over his six innings of work.
  • Reds 2B Brandon Phillips swatted his 16th home run of the season.
  • Reds SP Homer Bailey turned in a solid performance in a no-decision, allowing three runs on six hits and a pair of walks in his six frames.
  • Brewers OF Khris Davis launched a pair of home runs.
  • Brewers RP Jim Henderson slammed the door in the ninth inning, preserving a two-run lead and earning his 20th save of the season.

  • Phillies OF Darin Ruf blasted his 10th home run of the season.
  • Phillies SP Cole Hamels pitched well in a no-decision, allowing three runs on six hits over his seven frames.
  • Diamondbacks 3B Martin Prado went 1-for-4 with a two-run double and a run scored.
  • Diamondbacks SP Wade Miley turned in a quality start in a no-decision, surrendering three runs on five hits in his six innings of work.

  • Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright notched his NL-leading 15th victory.
  • Braves SP Kris Medlen surrendered three runs over six-plus innings.
  • Cardinals OF Matt Holliday launched a go-ahead solo homer.
  • Braves OF B.J. Upton notched his first hit since August 7th.
American League:
(57-71) Blue Jays - 4 at 12 - Astros (42-85)
  • Astros OF Robbie Grossman finished 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI.
  • Astros SP Jordan Lyles allowed four runs in 7 1/3 innings.
  • Blue Jays SP Todd Redmond was rocked for eight runs (seven earned) over 3 1/3 innings.
  • Blue Jays 3B Brett Lawrie connected for a two-run home run.
(57-70) Twins - 5 at 1 - Indians (69-59)
  • Twins C Chris Herrmann went 2-for-5 with an RBI double, which proved to be the difference maker.
  • Twins SP Samuel Deduno was impressive, allowing just one run on three hits over his six innings.
  • Indians C Carlos Santana reached base three times and plated the lone run.
  • Indians SP Ubaldo Jimenez racked up a season-high 10 strikeouts, but it wasn’t enough as he surrendered two runs on five hits and three walks over his six innings of work.
(71-56) Athletics - 7 at 9 - Orioles (69-58)
  • Orioles OF Adam Jones homered and drove in three runs.
  • Orioles RP Jim Johnson tossed a perfect ninth inning for his 40th save of the season.
  • Orioles SP Bud Norris had his worst start this year, giving up seven runs over 4 2/3 innings.
  • Athletics SP Dan Straily was chased after giving up six runs over 3 1/3 innings.
  • Athletics OF Coco Crisp with 4-for-5 with a solo homer and three runs scored.
(68-60) Yankees - 2 at 7 - Rays (73-53)
  • Rays SP Chris Archer allowed two runs in seven innings.
  • Yankees SP Hiroki Kuroda was blasted for seven runs over six innings in a loss.
  • Rays C Jose Lobaton went 2-for-3 with a a home run and four RBI.
  • Yankees OF Brett Gardner went 2-for-2 with a walk, a hit-by-pitch, two runs scored and a stolen base.
(75-53) Rangers - 11 at 5 - White Sox (52-75)
  • Rangers 3B Adrian Beltre blasted one of five of his teams home runs.
  • Rangers SP Martin Perez showed his resiliency, allowing four runs on eight hits over seven innings.
  • White Sox OF Dayan Viciedo went 2-for-4 and drove home a pair of runs.
  • White Sox SP Chris Sale was hit hard, allowing eight runs on eight hits, including four home runs, over seven innings.
(56-71) Angels - 2 at 0 - Mariners (59-68)
Inter League:
(75-53) Tigers - 6 at 1 - Mets (58-68)
  • Tigers SP Doug Fister gave up just one run over 6 1/3 innings.
  • Making his Mets debut, SP Daisuke Matsuzaka gave up five runs over five innings.
  • Tigers 3B Miguel Cabrera went 2-for-4 with a long three-run home run.
  • Mets OF Eric Young, Jr. went 3-for-5 with a stolen base.
(64-64) Nationals - 11 at 10 - Royals (64-63)
  • Nationals RP Rafael Soriano danced around trouble for his 33rd save of the season.
  • Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez was knocked around for seven runs (six earned) over 3 1/3 innings in a no-decision.
  • Royals RP Bruce Chen struggled, allowing seven runs on six hits and five walks over 3 2/3 innings.
  • Royals 1B Eric Hosmer reached base in all five plate appearances, going 3-for-3 with a home run, three RBI, three runs scored, and two walks.
(75-55) Red Sox - 0 at 2 - Dodgers (76-52)
  • Dodgers RP Kenley Jansen struck out two in a perfect ninth inning to earn his 22nd save.
  • Dodgers SP Ricky Nolasco tossed a gem, striking out six over eight shutout innings.

Injury Updates:

National League:

  • Reds RP Jonathan Broxton is expected to be sidelined for six months after undergoing surgery Friday to repair a flexor mass strain in his right elbow.
  • Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said during an interview on CBS Sports 920 in St. Louis Friday that he expects SP Jake Westbrook (back) to go on the disabled list.
  • Cardinals RP Edward Mujica (shoulder) said Friday that he felt much better while playing catch, but is still unavailable to pitch in Friday's game.
  • An X-ray on Giants SP Matt Cain's right forearm came back negative.
  • Rockies SP Roy Oswalt (hamstring) will throw at least one more simulated game before going out on a rehab assignment.
  • Reds SP Tony Cingrani (back) threw a 12-pitch bullpen session Friday.
  • An MRI on Phillies SP Jonathan Pettibone's right shoulder showed only inflammation.
  • Cubs SP Scott Baker (elbow) went four innings in Friday's rehab start with Low-A Kane County, allowing one run on four hits.
  • Pirates RP Jason Grilli (forearm) will throw another bullpen session on Sunday, and if all goes well he'll progress to a 25-pitch simulated game on Wednesday.
  • Padres OF Carlos Quentin will test his injured knee on Saturday to determine the next course of action.
  • Padres OF Kyle Blanks (Achilles) is set to begin a minor league rehab assignment on Saturday.
  • Diamondbacks RP J.J. Putz is heading to the disabled list with a dislocated finger that he suffered while trying to barehand a ground ball in Friday's game.
American League:
  • Athletics OF Josh Reddick (wrist) is not expected to need a trip to the disabled list.
  • Mariners prospect 3B D.J. Peterson underwent successful surgery on Friday to repair a broken jaw.
  • Royals SP Felipe Paulino (elbow) will move his rehab assignment up to Triple-A Omaha Friday.
  • Twins C Joe Mauer (concussion) has been cleared to begin light exercises.
  • After undergoing an MRI on his injured right wrist, Twins OF Oswaldo Arcia was diagnosed with a bone bruise on Friday.
  • Tigers C Alex Avila (concussion) was removed from Thursday's rehab start with Triple-A Toledo due to a headache.
  • Rangers SP Neftali Feliz (elbow, triceps) tossed a scoreless inning during his most recent rehab appearance with Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday.
  • Yankees SS Derek Jeter (calf) could rejoin the Yankees on Monday.
  • Indians OF Ryan Raburn (calf) will be reevaluated Friday.
  • Athletics OF Josh Reddick (wrist) resumed hitting activities Friday.
  • Royals OF Lorenzo Cain (oblique) was cleared for on-field agility drills Friday.
  • Orioles SP Jason Hammel (forearm) threw a successful 45-pitch bullpen session Friday.
  • C Mike Zunino (hand) is on schedule in his recovery from a broken hamate bone and is expected to return to the Mariners at some point in September.
  • After catching his first game of the season on Friday, Tigers DH Victor Martinez is expected to rest on Saturday, and return behind the plate for Sunday's series finale against the Mets.
Notes & Rumors:

National League:

  • Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Thursday that SP Barry Zito will make his next scheduled start.
  • RP Yusmeiro Petit will replace the injured Matt Cain in the Giants starting rotation, taking his first turn on Tuesday against the Rockies in Colorado.
  • Cardinals SP Tyler Lyons will start Monday against the Reds.
American League:
  • Athletics SP Tommy Milone has been scratched from Saturday's scheduled start against the Orioles.
  • Blue Jays SP Chien-Ming Wang will start Saturday against the Astros.
  • Indians SP Scott Kazmir will start Sunday against the Twins.
  • Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik was non-committal on Friday, but left the door open for the possibility of SP Taijuan Walker joining the Mariners as a September call-up.
  • Angels SP Dontrelle Willis struggled mightily in his third start with Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday, surrendering eight runs on five hits and seven walks in just 3 2/3 innings
