  • Marlins OF Jake Marisnick went 1-for-3 with the first home run of his career.
  • Mets 1B Ike Davis went 2-for-3 with an RBI double.
  • Marlins SP Henderson Alvarez allowed two runs in 7 1/3 innings of work to earn the win.
  • Mets SP Jenrry Mejia allowed three runs over six innings.
(51-58) Rockies - 0 at 9 - Braves (63-45)
  • Braves SP Mike Minor continued his breakout season, allowing no runs, and two hits while striking out six.
  • Braves C Brian McCann went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer.
  • Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood allowed eight runs -- seven earned -- on 10 hits in 2 1/3 innings.
  • Braves 1B Freddie Freeman went 4-for-4 with two RBI.
(46-62) Brewers - 1 at 6 - Cubs (49-58)
(62-44) Cardinals - 4 at 5 - Pirates (65-42)
  • Pirates SP Jeff Locke was chased after four innings, allowing four runs on a career-high 10 hits and a walk but escaping with a no-decision.
  • Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright was charged with four runs on eight hits and a walk over seven innings.
  • Pirates 2B Neil Walker had a single and a solo homer.
(60-49) Reds - 4 at 1 - Padres (50-59)
  • Reds SP Homer Bailey allowed just an unearned run over 8 1/3 innings and struck out seven.
  • Reds 2B Brandon Phillips went 3-for-5 and hit his 13th homer.
  • Padres 2B Jedd Gyorko went hitless again, leaving him 5-for-50 since he came off the disabled list.
(47-59) Giants - 9 at 2 - Phillies (50-57)
  • Giants RP Chad Gaudin spun seven innings of one-run ball while striking out five.
  • Phillies SP Kyle Kendrick was lit up for seven runs – six earned – over just two innings.
  • Giants 1B Brett Pill went 3-for-5 with a homer and four RBI.

American League:

(40-65) White Sox - 5 at 6 - Indians (59-48) (10 innings)
  • Indians C Carlos Santana went 2-for-5 with a 10th-inning, walk-off home run.
  • White Sox RP Addison Reed suffered his fifth blown save of the season, allowing two runs in an inning of work.
  • Indians SP Corey Kluber allowed four runs in 8 2/3 innings in a no-decision.
  • White Sox SP Jose Quintana allowed three runs in five innings in a no-decision against the Indians on Wednesday.
(48-58) Angels - 1 at 2 - Rangers (59-49)
  • Rangers 3B Adrian Beltre hit a walk-off solo home run.
  • Angels OF Josh Hamilton went 1-for-2 with a home run.
  • Rangers SP Martin Perez allowed one run in 7 1/3 innings but took a no-decision.
  • Angels SP Jerome Williams allowed one run in 7 2/3 innings in a no-decision.
(50-57) Blue Jays - 5 at 2 - Athletics (63-45) (10 innings)
  • Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey surrendered just a pair of unearned runs over six innings in a no-decision.
  • Blue Jays OF Colby Rasmus finished 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI.
  • Athletics OF Coco Crisp went hitless in a fourth straight game.
(36-70) Astros - 11 at 0 - Orioles (59-49)
  • Astros RP Brett Oberholtzer allowed just three hits over seven innings of work.
  • Astros C Jason Castro went 3-for-4 with a grand slam and two doubles.
  • Orioles SP Miguel Gonzalez had his second straight poor outing, allowing nine runs -- four earned -- in 3 2/3 innings.
  • Astros 3B Matt Dominguez went 4-for-5 with a home run and three runs scored.
(50-57) Mariners - 4 at 5 - Red Sox (65-44) (15 innings)
  • Red Sox SS Stephen Drew hit a walkoff RBI ground-rule single.
  • Red Sox SP John Lackey surrendered three earned runs in seven innings.
  • Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma allowed two (unearned) runs as Mariners lost to the Red Sox on Wednesday night.
(53-51) Royals - 4 at 3 - Twins (45-59)
  • Royals RP Greg Holland earned his 28th save of the season.
Inter League:
(52-56) Nationals - 1 at 11 - Tigers (61-45)
  • Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez was lit up for 10 runs in 3 1/3 innings.
  • Tigers OF Torii Hunter went 4-for-6 with a homer and two doubles.
  • Tigers SP Justin Verlander allowed one run and four hits in six innings.
  • Nationals 1B Adam LaRoche went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts to finish July with a .159 average in 88 at-bats.
(56-51) Yankees - 3 at 0 - Dodgers (57-49)
  • Yankees RP Mariano Rivera tossed a perfect ninth inning for his 34th save of the season.
  • Dodgers OF Andre Ethier went 2-for-4.
  • Yankees SP Hiroki Kuroda fired seven shutout innings in a no-decision.
  • Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw twirled eight shutout innings in a no-decision.

  • Diamondbacks SP Wade Miley allowed two hits, striking out eight, over 6 1/3 innings.

  • Astros acquired RHP Kyle Smith from the Royals for OF Justin Maxwell.
  • Indians optioned RHP Vinnie Pestano to Triple-A Columbus.
  • Angels purchased the contract of INF Chris Nelson from Triple-A Salt Lake.
  • The Red Sox will promote prospect LHP Henry Owens to Double-A Portland.
  • Athletics designated INF Adam Rosales for assignment.
  • White Sox recalled OF Jordan Danks from Triple-A Charlotte.
  • Tigers recalled RHP Luis Marte from Triple-A Toledo, placed him on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder injury.
  • Yankees activated INF Jayson Nix from the 15-day disabled list.
  • Rays recalled INF Ryan Roberts from Triple-A Durham.

National League:

  • Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said that OF Domonic Brown (concussion) likely will not return from the 7-day disabled list when he's first eligible Thursday.
  • Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers said Wednesday that SP Trevor Cahill (hip, shoulder) could need two more rehab starts.
  • Phillies SP Cliff Lee (neck) took batting practice on Wednesday and is expected to make a start this weekend.
  • An MRI taken Wednesday afternoon on Cardinals C Yadier Molina's right knee showed no structural damage.
  • Pirates C Michael McKenry underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee.
  • Nationals OF Bryce Harper was diagnosed with a hip spasm.
  • Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez was diagnosed with a sprained right middle finger after an X-ray came back clean.
  • Giants 3B Pablo Sandoval (heel) is expected to return to the lineup Thursday.
  • Mets C John Buck will be placed on paternity leave soon.
  • MLB.com's Ken Gurnick reports that Dodgers OF Matt Kemp's sprained left ankle is healing slower than expected and he could be out until September.
  • SP Mark Rogers (shoulder, arm) will begin a rehab assignment with the Brewers' rookie-level team in Arizona Wednesday.
  • The Reds remain unsure when SP Johnny Cueto (lat) will resume a throwing program.
  • Cardinals C Yadier Molina had fluid drained and received a cortisone shot for his ailing right knee.
American League:
  • Athletics OF Josh Reddick is not experiencing concussion symptoms.
  • Athletics SP Brett Anderson (foot) will throw a live bullpen session on Friday.
  • White Sox OF Alex Rios is day-to-day after X-rays came back negative on his left foot.
  • Angels OF Peter Bourjos (wrist) took batting practice in a cage on Wednesday and reported feeling fine.
  • Astros RP Travis Blackley has a contusion above his left eye.
  • Yankees C Francisco Cervelli will have his sore elbow examined later this week by Dr. James Andrews.
  • Yankees OF Curtis Granderson (finger) is expected back Friday.
  • An MRI taken Wednesday afternoon on Rays SP Matt Moore's sore left elbow showed no structural damage.
  • Rangers SP Nick Tepesch (elbow) said he's been playing catch "on and off" since being placed on the DL earlier this month and hasn't had any issues.
  • Royals DH Billy Butler has been playing through neck stiffness.
  • Royals 2B Chris Getz (knee) is expected to return to the lineup this weekend.
  • Royals OF Lorenzo Cain was unavailable to play Wednesday after feeling tightness in his left groin while warming up.
  • Blue Jays RP Dustin McGowan will be placed on the disabled list after tweaking his side during an appearance on Monday.
  • Twins 2B Brian Dozier (back) is expected to return to the lineup Thursday.
  • Astros OF Brandon Barnes left Wednesday's game against the Orioles with lower back tightness.
  • Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports that the Blue Jays are expected to activate RP Sergio Santos (elbow) from the disabled list Thursday.
  • Angels SP Jason Vargas (arm) will throw a simulated game Thursday.
  • Angels RP Sean Burnett has been ruled out for the season and is leaning towards having surgery to repair a torn flexor tendon in his left elbow.
Notes and Rumors

National League:
  • Giants manager Bruce Bochy wouldn't commit to using SP Barry Zito for his scheduled start on Sunday in Tampa.
  • RP Zeke Spruill will make a spot start for the Diamondbacks on Thursday against the Rangers.
  • Mets manager Terry Collins said the club could use SP Zack Wheeler as a reliever for the final couple weeks of the season in order to limit his innings.
  • Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Cardinals have made an offer to Nationals C Kelly Shoppach.
