  • Tigers SP Doug Fister delivered a very strong performance, allowing just one unearned run on three hits over eight innings.
  • Phillies 3B Michael Young drove in his teams only run.
  • Phillies SP Cole Hamels picked up his career-high and major league leading 13th loss of the season, despite allowing just two runs on six hits over his seven innings.

  • Giants activated INF Joaquin Arias from the 15-day disabled list.
  • Giants acquired RHP Guillermo Moscoso from the Cubs for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
  • Brewers signed INF/OF Eugenio Velez to a minor league contract; assigned him to Triple-A Nashville.
  • Cubs purchased the contract of RHP Eduardo Sanchez from Triple-A Iowa.
  • Rockies recalled OF Corey Dickerson from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
  • Rockies placed LHP Drew Pomeranz on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 23, with left bicep tendinitis.
  • Cubs acquired RHP Corey Black from the Yankees for OF Alfonso Soriano and cash considerations.
  • Cubs signed RHP Jen-Ho Tseng.
  • Nationals activated RHP Ryan Mattheus from the 15-day disabled list.
  • According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports, Cuban right-hander Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez has agreed to a six-year deal with the Phillies worth more than $50 million.
  • Mets optioned OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis to Triple-A Las Vegas.
  • Nationals optioned RHP Drew Storen to Triple-A Syracuse.
American League:
  • Yankees optioned OF Thomas Neal to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
  • Mariners signed C Humberto Quintero.
  • Yankees signed INF Brendan Harris to a minor league contract; assigned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
  • Mariners placed C Mike Zunino on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured hamate bone in his left hand.
  • Orioles released 3B Brandon Wood.
  • Astros recalled OF Robbie Grossman from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
  • Astros placed J.D. Martinez on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left wrist.

  • Phillies SP Cliff Lee has been scratched from Saturday's start against the Tigers due to a stiff neck.
  • Pirates SP Wandy Rodriguez (forearm) was scheduled to throw 70 times from 80 feet and 70 times from 90 feet on Friday.
  • Diamondbacks SP Trevor Cahill (hip, shoulder) believes he'll make his next rehab start with Triple-A Reno.
  • Marlins OF Marcell Ozuna underwent successful surgery Friday to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb.
  • Pirates RP Jason Grilli has been diagnosed with a strained right flexor tendon.
  • Rockies SP Jhoulys Chacin is expected to make his next scheduled start despite a bruised left groin.
  • The Chicago Sun-Times' Gordon Wittenmyer writes that Cubs SP Scott Baker (elbow) "continued to look a little hesitant in snapping off full-velocity fastballs and sharp breaking balls" in his latest rehab start Wednesday.
  • Mets 1B Justin Turner was removed from the nightcap of Friday's doubleheader against the Nationals with a sore right shoulder.
  • Giants SP Ryan Vogelsong struck out three over 2 2/3 innings in his first minor league rehab start with High-A San Jose on Friday.
  • Braves SP Tim Hudson underwent successful surgery to repair a fractured fibula and deltoid ligament.
  • Pirates C Russell Martin tweaked his knee on a play at the plate during Friday's loss to the Marlins.
American League:
  • Twins OF Wilkin Ramirez (concussion) passed his latest round of concussion tests and has been cleared to begin his minor league rehab assignment.
  • Twins OF Darin Mastroianni (ankle) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Saturday.
  • Red Sox SP Alfredo Aceves (oblique) hopes to pitch again during the 2013 season.
  • Mariners bench coach Robby Thompson said Friday that OF Michael Morse (quad) likely needs a few more rehab games.
  • Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Friday that C Francisco Cervelli's broken right finger is still sore and he will be re-examined by a specialist in Cleveland.
  • Red Sox RP Alex Wilson (thumb) is slated to begin a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Pawtucket.
  • Red Sox RP Franklin Morales (shoulder, pectoral) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Monday with Triple-A Pawtucket.
  • Tigers 3B Miguel Cabrera reported much improvement with his sore left hip flexor Friday.

  • Athletics manager Bob Melvin said Thursday that he expects C John Jaso (concussion) to need only the minimum seven days on the disabled list.
  • Yankees SS Jayson Nix (hamstring) went 1-for-4 with an RBI double during Friday's minor league rehab game with High-A Tampa.
  • Yankees OF Curtis Granderson (finger) went 0-for-3 with an RBI ground out during Friday's minor league rehab game with High-A Tampa.
  • Astros OF J.D. Martinez was removed from Friday's game against the Blue Jays due to a left wrist injury.
  • White Sox OF Alex Rios indicated on Friday that all of the trade rumors swirling around him have been distracting, and that he'll be happy when the trade deadline passes.
  • Yankees DH Derek Jeter (quad) could return to the Yankees' starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Rays.
