  • Rangers SP Derek Holland allowed two runs over 7 1/3 innings in a tough-luck loss.
  • Yankees C Austin Romine went 3-for-4 with a run scored.
  • Rangers SS Elvis Andrus went 2-for-4.

  • Royals SP Jeremy Guthrie allowed just one run over six innings against his former team.
  • Orioles SP Miguel Gonzalez was roughed up, surrendering six runs in 4 2/3 innings.
  • Orioles 1B Chris Davis struck out all four times he was up.
  • Royals DH Billy Butler homered and doubled.
(56-45) Tigers - 4 at 7 - White Sox (40-59)
  • White Sox C Tyler Flowers had an RBI double and a solo homer.
  • Tigers DH Victor Martinez belted a solo homer.
  • Tigers SP Justin Verlander was lit up for seven runs over six innings.
  • With plenty of scouts in attendance, White Sox SP Jake Peavy pitched pretty well, allowing four runs over seven innings.

  • Blue Jays SP Mark Buehrle pitched his ninth career shutout, a two-hitter while striking out nine.
  • Astros SP Erik Bedard took another tough loss after allowing one run and three hits in five innings.
  • Astros OF Chris Carter went 0-for-3 with a walk and is batting .184 in 49 at-bats for the month.
(48-52) Angels - 8 at 3 - Athletics (59-43)
  • Angels SP C.J. Wilson yielded three runs over seven innings.
  • Athletics SP Dan Straily was knocked around for five runs over 4 1/3 innings.
  • Angels OF Mike Trout knocked in two runs in Thursday's win over the Athletics.
  • Athletics C Derek Norris finished 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.

  • Phillies transferred RHP Jeremy Horst from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

  • Marlins placed OF Marcell Ozuna on the 15-day disabled list with a torn ligament in his left thumb.

  • Athletics recalled C Stephen Vogt from Triple-A Sacramento.
  • Athletics placed C John Jaso on the 7-day disabled list with a concussion.
  • Angels designated RHP Billy Buckner for assignment.

  • Mets OF Eric Young, Jr. (knee) underwent X-rays which showed no issue.
  • Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez left Thursday's game after he aggravated his sprained right middle finger.
  • Mets OF Eric Young Jr. is dealing with right knee pain.
  • Mets SP Jenrry Mejia needs offseason elbow surgery.
  • Pirates SP Wandy Rodriguez (forearm) made about 60 flat-ground throws from a distance of 80 feet on Wednesday.
  • Pirates OF Jose Tabata has a badly-bruised right forearm.
  • Diamondbacks SP Trevor Cahill (hip, shoulder) struck out nine while allowing just one hit and one unearned run in a rehab start.
  • Reds RP Jonathan Broxton (elbow) will throw live batting practice Saturday.
  • A scout told CBS Sports' Danny Knobler that Giants RP Brian Wilson (elbow) "looked good" in a throwing session in front of interested teams Thursday.
  • Padres OF Cameron Maybin (knee) could resume baseball activities as soon as this weekend.
  • Padres SP Joe Wieland (elbow) is not expected to return this season.
  • Padres manager Bud Black said Thursday that it's "unlikely" Cory Luebke (elbow) will return this season.
  • An MRI on Diamondbacks C Miguel Montero's back showed only inflammation.
American League:
  • Astros OF Trevor Crowe (shoulder) began a minor league rehab assignment Thursday with the GCL Astros.
  • Rangers SP Colby Lewis (elbow) will make his next minor league rehab start Sunday with Double-A Frisco.
  • Tigers OF Torii Hunter (Achilles) expects to play Friday.
  • Tigers manager Jim Leyland is hopeful that 3B Miguel Cabrera (hip) will be able to play Friday.
  • Red Sox RP Andrew Bailey had both his labrum and shoulder capsule repaired on Wednesday.
  • Red Sox C David Ross (head) expects to play again this season.
  • Blue Jays SP Brandon Morrow (forearm) will miss at least six weeks.
  • Yankees DH Derek Jeter (quad) reported feeling "good" after running the bases on Thursday afternoon.
  • White Sox RP Jesse Crain (shoulder) was unable to throw a scheduled bullpen session on Thursday afternoon.
  • Rangers SP Colby Lewis (elbow) will make his next minor league rehab start on Sunday at Triple-A Around Rock.
  • Tigers 2B Omar Infante (ankle) is likely to return Friday.
  • White Sox 2B Gordon Beckham (wrist) could return on Friday.
  • Rays RP Brandon Gomes (lat) will make another minor league rehab appearance on Friday night.
  • Mariners C Mike Zunino left Thursday's game against the Twins after the fourth inning after taking a foul tip off his left hand.
  • Royals SP Felipe Paulino (elbow, shoulder) threw a successful two-inning simulated game on Thursday.
  • Rangers DH Lance Berkman admitted Wednesday that he's considered shutting it down for the rest of the season or retiring due to nagging soreness in his surgically-repaired right knee.
Notes and Rumors

National League:
  • Brewers OF Ryan Braun said in a statement Thurdsay that he is not allowed to address his 65-game PED suspension.
  • CBS Sports' Danny Knobler reports that the Marlins are telling teams RP Steve Cishek is unavailable.
  • Major League Baseball has suspended Diamondbacks pitching prospect Eric Smith 50 games for violating the league's substance abuse policy.
  • Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said that SP Michael Wacha and SP Tyler Lyons are candidates to start one of the games of Tuesday's doubleheader in Pittsburgh.
  • Rockies RP Collin McHugh is expected to replace Drew Pomeranz in the Rockies' rotation on Saturday against the Brewers.

American League:

  • Steven Marcus of New York Newsday reports that the Yankees plan to discipline 3B Alex Rodriguez for seeking a second opinion on his quad injury without getting permission first.
  • According to ESPN's Jayson Stark, the Red Sox, Cardinals, Dodgers, Braves, Orioles, Reds and Rangers scouted White Sox SP Jake Peavy's start Thursday vs. Detroit.
  • CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Cubs are expected to assume more than half of the remaining $24 million remaining on OF Alfonso Soriano's contract when the trade with the Yankees goes through.
  • Red Sox SP Brandon Workman will have his next start pushed back following Thursday's rainout.
