  • Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune was told by a Cubs source that the club is discussing a trade with the Yankees involving OF Alfonso Soriano, but that conversations are preliminary and they are "not close" to a deal yet.
  • SP Jenrry Mejia will start for the Mets in Game 1 of Friday's doubleheader with the Nationals.
  • RP Jim Henderson is likely to move back into the closer role for the Brewers following the trade of Francisco Rodriguez.
  • FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi reports that the Braves are interested in Padres RP Joe Thatcher.

American League:

  • CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Red Sox and Cardinals "appear to be emerging" as two of the potential players to land White Sox right-hander Jake Peavy in a trade.
  • Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports that the Red Sox and 2B Dustin Pedroia have agreed in principle on a long-term contract extension.
  • Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports that a couple of teams have expressed interest in trading for Orioles DH Chris Dickerson.
  • Red Sox manager John Farrell said during a radio appearance that OF Jacoby Ellsbury will get the day off Tuesday against the Rays.
