  • Tigers SP Doug Fister twirled six innings of one-run ball while striking out five.
  • Royals SP James Shields allowed three runs on nine hits over seven innings.

  • Indians 2B Jason Kipnis went 2-for-4 with a walk, homer, two runs and three RBI.

  • Twins SP Scott Diamond allowed six runs -- five earned -- on seven hits over 4 2/3 innings.

  • Braves transferred LHP Eric O'Flaherty from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
  • Braves optioned INF Tyler Pastornicky to Triple-A Gwinnett.
  • Dodgers optioned OF Scott Van Slyke to Triple-A Albuquerque.
  • Padres recalled RHP Miles Mikolas from Triple-A Tucson.
  • Padres placed RHP Jason Marquis on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 20, with a right elbow strain.
  • Braves purchased the contract of RHP Kameron Loe from Triple-A Gwinnett.
  • Padres signed LHP Jason Lane to a minor league contract.
American League:

National League:

  • Braves C Gerald Laird left Sunday's game with a left hand contusion.
  • Giants RP Jeremy Affeldt is expected to be sidelined 4-6 weeks after being diagnosed with a moderate left groin strain.
  • When RP Brian Wilson (elbow) auditions for teams within the next couple weeks, the Giants will be in attendance.
  • Brewers RP Alfredo Figaro (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with the Brewers' rookie-level Arizona team on Sunday.
  • Cardinals SP John Gast remains shut down, as he's still having some soreness in his left lat.
  • Braves SP Paul Maholm is returning to Atlanta to have his left wrist checked by a team specialist.
  • Reds OF Ryan Ludwick (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Low-A Dayton on Wednesday.
  • Reds OF Derrick Robinson did not play Saturday due to ongoing left shoulder soreness.
  • Phillies SP Roy Halladay (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Sunday.
  • Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said SP Jeff Locke (back) will not be under any restrictions Sunday against the Reds.
  • Pirates SP James McDonald (shoulder) is tentatively scheduled to resume a throwing program next week.
  • Diamondbacks 3B Eric Chavez said Saturday that his right hip stiffness is feeling much better.
  • Dodgers manager Don Mattingly doesn't anticipate that OF Matt Kemp (ankle) will need to be placed on the disabled list.
  • Braves OF Jason Heyward (hamstring) is expected to return to the lineup Monday.
American League:
  • Angels RP Sean Burnett (elbow) is hoping to begin throwing off a mound in the next day or two.
  • Angels SP Tommy Hanson (forearm) will be activated from the disabled list to start on Tuesday against the Twins.
  • White Sox 1B Paul Konerko (back) will be activated from the disabled list on Monday.
  • Indians SP Corey Kluber (hip) will throw a bullpen session Tuesday before determining whether he's ready to make his next scheduled start on Friday.
  • An MRI of Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez's left quad revealed a Grade 1 strain.
  • Rays manager Joe Maddon said Sunday that he expects SS Yunel Escobar (hamstring) to play in the upcoming series against the Red Sox.
  • Twins OF Wilkin Ramirez (concussion) took early batting practice on Saturday.
  • Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz (shoulder) is expected to seek a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews.
  • Rangers DH Lance Berkman (hip) could be cleared to take live batting practice Monday.
  • Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said that OF Josh Willingham (knee) could resume baseball activities next week.
  • Athletics OF Yoenis Cespedes (wrist) could be cleared to take live batting practice Monday.
  • White Sox 2B Gordon Beckham is day-to-day with a wrist injury.
  • Red Sox RP Andrew Bailey will undergo surgery to his right shoulder Wednesday.
Notes and Rumors:

National League:
  • FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi and Ken Rosenthal report that the Athletics are one of the teams that Cubs are talking to about SP Matt Garza.
  • Padres SP Tyson Ross will be recalled to start on Tuesday in Milwaukee.
  • Reds RP Greg Reynolds will be called up to start one of the games of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Giants.
  • Cubs manager Dale Sveum said Saturday that RP Pedro Strop would be "one of the higher candidates" to close if Kevin Gregg is traded.
  • Diamondbacks SP Tyler Skaggs will be recalled to start on Monday against the Cubs.
  • Cubs manager Dale Sveum indicated after RP Carlos Villanueva struggled Saturday that his rotation spot could be in jeopardy.
  • MLB.com's Peter Gammons was told that the Dodgers are prepared to offer SP Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez a contract in the five-year, $50 million range, which is expected to be enough to sign him.
  • FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports that the Tigers have expressed interest in Padres RP Huston Street.
  • CBS Sports' Danny Knobler reports the Dodgers have been the team most heavily scouting RP Francisco Rodriguez.
American League:
  • Athletics RP Grant Balfour hasn't allowed a run over his last eight appearances.
  • Angels RP Ernesto Frieri hasn't allowed a run in July.
  • Rangers RP Joe Nathan has posted a 0.73 ERA over 25 appearances since May 15.
  • Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said Saturday that DH Chris Colabello will be given a chance to play regularly.
  • White Sox SP Dylan Axelrod has been demoted to the bullpen following the return of Jake Peavy to the rotation.
