  • Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez tossed six scoreless innings yielding only four hits while striking out eleven in a no-decision.
(56-39) Pirates - 4 at 5 - Reds (55-42)
  • Pirates SP A.J. Burnett gave up five runs -- two earned -- in 5 2/3 innings.
  • Pirates OF Andrew McCutchen was 4-for-5 with a solo home run.
  • Reds RP Aroldis Chapman earned his 23rd save of the season.
  • Reds SP Mat Latos yielded three runs -- two earned -- over five innings.

  • Mets 2B Daniel Murphy had a nice day at the dish, going 2-for-4 with a double, run scored and an RBI.
  • Mets RP Bobby Parnell allowed a two-run homer to Chase Utley, but escaped, earning his 18th save of the season.
  • Mets SP Zack Wheeler lasted just 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision, surrendering two runs on seven hits.
  • Phillies SS Jimmy Rollins belted a solo homer.
  • Phillies SP Cole Hamels struggled, giving up four runs on seven hits over five innings.
(35-60) Marlins - 0 at 6 - Brewers (40-56)
  • Brewers C Jonathan Lucroy went 4-for-4 with a homer and two RBI.
  • Brewers SP Yovani Gallardo tossed 6 1/3 scoreless innings allowing five hits while striking out five.
  • Marlins SP Nathan Eovaldi was shelled for six runs in four innings.
(43-55) Padres - 5 at 3 - Cardinals (58-37)
  • Padres SP Edinson Volquez allowed three runs in five innings.
  • Padres RP Huston Street pitched a perfect inning to earn his 16th save.
  • Cardinals 1B Allen Craig hit a two-run single in the fourth inning.
  • Cardinals SP Lance Lynn gave up four earned runs in five innings.

  • Giants SP Matt Cain allowed two runs over five innings for his first victory since June 13.
  • Giants C Buster Posey went 2-for-4 and hit his 14th home run.

  • Rays OF Desmond Jennings went 3-for-4 and scored a pair of runs.
  • Rays RP Fernando Rodney allowed a pair of baserunners in the ninth inning, but was able to escape with his 23rd save of the season.
  • Rays SP Jeremy Hellickson notched his ninth victory of the season, surrendering a pair of runs on five hits over his five innings of work.
  • Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista blasted his 22nd home run of the season in a losing effort.
  • Blue Jays SP Mark Buehrle delivered a quality start, surrendering four runs (three earned) on 10 hits in his seven innings of work.
(52-45) Yankees - 5 at 2 - Red Sox (59-40)
(55-43) Orioles - 7 at 4 - Rangers (54-43)
  • Rangers RP Ross Wolf was torched for seven runs in two-plus innings.
  • SP Miguel Gonzalez gave the Orioles another quality start, allowing one run over 6 2/3 innings in a victory.
  • Orioles OF Adam Jones went 2-for-5 and hit his 20th homer.
  • Orioles OF Henry Urrutia went 1-for-4 with an RBI in his major league debut.

(51-46) Indians - 2 at 3 - Twins (41-53)
  • Twins SP Kevin Correia allowed two runs in six innings while striking out three.
  • Indians 2B Jason Kipnis went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI.
  • Indians SP Corey Kluber departed early with left hip tightness after throwing five scoreless innings while striking out seven.

  • Mariners RP Tom Wilhelmsen earned his 21st save of the season.
  • Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma allowed two runs in seven innings to earn his ninth victory.
  • Astros SP Erik Bedard allowed three runs -- one earned -- in 6 1/3 innings.

Inter League:
(55-42) Braves - 6 at 10 - White Sox (38-56)
  • White Sox OF Alex Rios went 3-for-5 with five RBI.

  • Braves 2B Dan Uggla slugged his 19th home run of the season.

  • Rockies recalled RHP Mitchell Boggs from Double-A Tulsa.
  • Rockies placed RHP Rafael Betancourt on the 15-day disabled list with appendicitis.
  • Cardinals purchased the contract of 1B/OF Brock Peterson from Triple-A Memphis.
  • Cardinals placed OF Matt Holliday on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 12, with a right hamstring strain.
American League:
  • Angels recalled infielder Thomas Field from Triple-A Salt Lake.
  • Angels designated infielder Brendan Harris for assignment.
  • Athletics recalled RHP Dan Straily from Triple-A Sacramento.
  • Yankees designated INF Alberto Gonzalez for assignment.
  • Yankees recalled OF Melky Mesa from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
  • Yankees recalled OF Thomas Neal from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
  • Red Sox optioned INF Brock Holt to Triple-A Pawtucket.
  • Red Sox activated SS Stephen Drew from the 15-day disabled list.
  • Athletics optioned RHP Sonny Gray to Triple-A Sacramento.
Injury Updates:

National League:

  • Cardinals SP Chris Carpenter (shoulder) allowed four runs and nine hits in 3 1/3 innings Saturday in his rehab start for Triple-A Memphis.
  • Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez doesn't believe SP Paul Maholm will land on the disabled list with his sprained left wrist.
  • Cardinals Top prospect OF Oscar Taveras has been shut down for another 10 days because of his high ankle sprain.
  • Pirates SP Wandy Rodriguez (elbow) is expected to begin a throwing program next week.
  • Pirates RP Kyle McPherson underwent Tommy John surgery on July 10.
  • Pirates SP Jeff Locke (back) is expected to start Sunday against the Reds.
  • Brewers 3B Aramis Ramirez (knee) is expected to be sidelined another 10-14 days before returning from the disabled list.
  • Brewers SP Marco Estrada (hamstring) will throw a bullpen session Saturday.
  • Padres SP Clayton Richard underwent successful left shoulder surgery on July 15.
  • Cubs SP Scott Baker (elbow) allowed six runs over 2 2/3 innings in his latest rehab start Friday with Low-A Kane County.
  • Pirates 2B Neil Walker (oblique) went 0-for-3 in his first rehab game Friday with Triple-A Indianapolis.
  • Giants RP Jeremy Affeldt left Saturday's game in the sixth inning with an apparent groin injury.
American League:
  • Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez (hip) was shifted from third base to DH at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre tonight because of left quad tightness.
  • Rays SS Yunel Escobar (hamstring) will not start Sunday.
  • Indians SP Zach McAllister (finger) threw 35-40 pitches in a bullpen session Saturday and felt fine.
  • Orioles RP Steve Johnson (oblique) threw two scoreless innings in an extended spring training game Saturday.
  • Yankees SS Jayson Nix (hamstring) could begin a rehab assignment early next week.
  • Blue Jays OF Melky Cabrera (knee) is expected to return from the disabled list early next week.
  • Yankees SP David Phelps (forearm) is expected to make a rehab start Tuesday with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
  • Yankees OF Curtis Granderson (finger) could begin a rehab assignment in 7-10 days.
  • According to the Royals, 2B Chris Getz left Saturday's game with left mild medial knee sprain.
Notes and Rumors:

National League:
  • Rockies RP Rex Brothers will serve as the Rockies' fill-in closer while Rafael Betancourt (appendicitis) is sidelined.
  • The Star-Telegram's Jeff Wilson says the Rangers and Cubs haven't made any progress on a Cubs SP Matt Garza deal in the last 24 hours.
American League:
  • The Indians declined to part with 3B Lonnie Chisenhall in return for the Cubs' SP Matt Garza, according to Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
  • Red Sox SP Jon Lester will not make his scheduled start Sunday against the Yankees.
  • ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that trade talks involving Astros SP Bud Norris "have been heating up" since the All-Star break.
  • ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Giants and Rockies are among the teams that have discussed a trade for White Sox SP Jake Peavy.
