  • Nationals OF Denard Span singled, walked, stole a base, and scored a run.

  • Diamondbacks SP Patrick Corbin struck out 10 while allowing one run in 6 2/3 innings.
  • Diamondbacks RP David Hernandez struck out two in a perfect ninth to earn a save.
  • Brewers RP Tom Gorzelanny surrendered just a pair of unearned runs over six innings.
  • Brewers OF Carlos Gomez went 0-for-4 on and is in a 1-for-24 slump over the last seven games.

  • Cubs OF Nate Schierholtz went 0-for-3 with a walk.

  • Cardinals RP Joe Kelly allowed one run in 5 1/3 innings while striking out four.
  • Cubs RP Carlos Villanueva took a loss after surrendering two runs in six innings.
  • Cubs RP Pedro Strop struck out the side in the eighth and is still unscored upon as a cub.
  • Cardinals OF Carlos Beltran went 3-for-4 with a triple and a double.

  • Yankees RP Mariano Rivera tossed a perfect ninth inning for his 30th save of the season.
  • Yankees SP Hiroki Kuroda tossed five scoreless innings giving up six hits while striking out five.
  • Twins SP Scott Diamond tossed 3 1/3 scoreless innings giving up one hit, but walking three.
  • Yankees 2B Robinson Cano had an RBI double and walked twice.
  • Twins OF Oswaldo Arcia went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts.
(44-48) Blue Jays - 5 at 8 - Orioles (52-42)
  • Orioles SP Chris Tillman yielded three runs over six innings.
  • Blue Jays SP Mark Buehrle was hammered for a season-high eight runs over six innings.
  • Orioles OF Adam Jones went 3-for-4 with a go-ahead three-run homer and three runs scored.
  • Orioles 1B Chris Davis launched his 35th home run of the season.
  • Blue Jays C J.P. Arencibia went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run.
(53-40) Rangers - 2 at 7 - Tigers (51-41)
  • Tigers SS Jhonny Peralta went 2-for-4 with a two-run double.
  • Tigers SP Doug Fister pitched well, allowing just two runs on eight hits over his six innings of work.
  • Rangers C A.J. Pierzynski belted his ninth home run of the season in a losing effort.
  • Rangers SP Justin Grimm struggled mightily surrendering seven runs on ten hits, and eventually departed in the fourth inning due to to right forearm soreness.
(43-47) Royals - 0 at 3 - Indians (49-44)
  • Filling in for Chris Perez who was unavailable, Indians RP Cody Allen picked up his second save of the season.
  • Indians OF Michael Bourn delivered a pinch-hit, two-run double in the seventh inning.
  • Indians SP Corey Kluber delivered an outstanding performance, surrendering just three hits and three walks over 7 2/3 scoreless innings.
  • Royals 3B Mike Moustakas went 2-for-4.
  • Royals RP Bruce Chen was terrific in his first start of the 2013 season, allowing just one hit and a walk over six scoreless innings.
(58-37) Red Sox - 4 at 2 - Athletics (54-39)
  • Red Sox OF Shane Victorino took a pitch off his right hand in the eighth inning.
  • Red Sox SP John Lackey allowed two runs and three hits in seven innings.
(33-59) Astros - 2 at 1 - Rays (53-41)
  • Astros C Chris Corporan delivered a two-run single in the first inning.
  • Astros RP Jose Veras slammed the door, protecting a 2-0 lead and earning his 18th save of the season.
  • Astros SP Jarred Cosart was absolutely scintillating in his MLB debut, scattering two hits and three walks over eight scoreless innings.
  • Rays 2B Ben Zobrist spoiled the party in Jarred Cosart’s MLB debut, breaking up the rookie right-hander’s no-hit bit with a one-out single in the seventh inning.
  • Rays SP David Price delivered a tremendous effort, allowing just two runs on eight hits while striking out three.
(44-47) Angels - 3 at 8 - Mariners (41-52)
  • Mariners C Mike Zunino turned in his first three-hit game.
  • Angels SP Jerome Williams was pounded for six runs in 3 1/3 innings.
  • Mariners SP Joe Saunders allowed no runs for seven innings and has now won three straight starts.
  • Mariners OF Raul Ibanez hit his 23rd and 24th homers and even mixed in a double.

  • Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (hamstring) indicated after Thursday's game that he's unlikely to need a disabled list stint, calling himself "day-to-day."
  • Giants RP Santiago Casilla (knee) will be activated from the disabled list on Friday or Saturday.
  • Giants SP Ryan Vogelsong (hand) was pleased with how he felt during a 30-pitch bullpen session Thursday.
  • Mets manager Terry Collins said Friday that SP Jon Niese (shoulder) has begun long-tossing in Florida.
  • Mets manager Terry Collins said Friday that C Travis d'Arnaud (foot) is doing "everything except playing."
  • Marlins OF Chris Coghlan (back) has been cleared to resume baseball activities.

  • Rangers prospect 3B Joey Gallo will not participate in Sunday's All-Star Futures Game at Citi Field due to a strained groin.
  • Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos said that 3B Brett Lawrie (ankle) could be activated from the disabled list as soon as Friday.
  • Rangers DH Lance Berkman (hip) believes he'll be activated from the disabled list on July 22, the first day he's eligible.
  • Red Sox SS Stephen Drew (hamstring) has increased the intensity of his running in recent days.
  • Indians SP Zach McAllister (finger) is slated to throw four innings Saturday in his first minor league rehab start with Double-A Akron.
  • Rangers OF Craig Gentry (hand) will likely begin a minor league rehab assignment Monday with Double-A Frisco.

  • The Braves will recall OF Jose Constanza from Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday.
  • Giants manager Bruce Bochy confirmed Friday that RP Sergio Romo will replace one of the ineligible pitchers on the National League All-Star team.
  • Dodgers RP Kenley Jansen ranks fourth amongst closers in K/9 rate with 12.51.
  • The Giants are expected to promote OF Jeff Francoeur from Triple-A Fresno on Saturday.
