  • Mets SP Shaun Marcum pitched 8 wonderful innings in relief striking out 7 while allowing just one run. It wasn't enough however as he still took the loss.
  • Marlins SP Kevin Slowey picked up the win in relief tossing 7 shutout innings.

  • Pirates 3B Pedro Alvarez homered and drove in three runs.
  • Pirates SP A.J. Burnett delivered an outstanding performance, allowing just two runs on four hits and three walks over 8 1/3 innings.
  • Cubs OF Alfonso Soriano was responsible for all of the offense, smashing a two-run homer in the ninth inning to spoil A.J. Burnett’s shutout bid.
  • Cubs SP Jeff Samardzija struggled, allowing four runs on eight hits and a walk over six frames.

  • Nationals SP Ross Detwiler (oblique) said he feels good enough to return to the Nationals' rotation on Thursday.

Devin Mesoraco is going to be great and the Teds will wish they had him in AAA these last 2yrs saving his service time. This guy produced (30 HR .300 BA) just like D'Arnaud except is more athletic in a great park with great players around for counting stats.
