  • Phillies C Carlos Ruiz went 1-for-3 with a sacrifice fly.
  • Phillies SP Cliff Lee allowed two runs over seven innings in a no-decision.
  • Reds SP Tony Cingrani yielded three runs in five innings in a no-decision.
  • Reds 1B Joey Votto went 2-for-4 with a solo homer.
(24-18) Diamondbacks  - 9 at 2 - Marlins (11-31)
  • Diamondbacks 1B Paul Goldschmidt swatted a pair of two-run homers.
  • Diamondbacks SP Trevor Cahill was terrific, surrendering only one run on five hits over his eight innings.
  • Marlins C Rob Brantly drove home his 11th run of the season.
  • Marlins SP Kevin Slowey was knocked around in Friday’s loss to the Diamondbacks, surrendering six runs on seven hits in only three innings of work.
(17-23) Dodgers - 5 at 8 - Braves (23-18)
  • Braves OF Justin Upton smacked a go-ahead grand slam and knocked in five runs.
  • Braves SP Paul Maholm allowed four runs (two earned) in six innings.
  • Dodgers SP Hyun-Jin Ryu gave up two runs in five innings Friday in a no-decision.
  • Braves OF Jason Heyward (appendectomy) went 2-for-4 with an RBI single, a walk and two runs scored in his return from the disabled list.
  • Dodgers 1B Scott Van Slyke clubbed a pair of solo homers.
(16-23) Mets - 3 at 2 - Cubs (17-24)
  • Mets SP Matt Harvey allowed two runs in 7 1/3 innings to move to 5-0.
  • Cubs RP Kyuji Fujikawa struck out two in a perfect inning Friday versus the Mets.
  • Mets 3B David Wright went 3-for-4 with a homer and a steal.
(23-19) Nationals - 6 at 5 - Padres (18-23) (10 innings)
  • Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez went 6.2 innings allowing two runs and six hits in a tough luck no decision.
  • Padres SP Burch Smith gave up five runs and six hits in 5.1 innings while striking out eight in a loss.
  • Nationals 1B Adam LaRoche homered twice while knocking in four.
  • Padres 2B Jedd Gyorko hit his 4th homer of the year.
  • Nationals got homers from 3B Ryan Zimmerman and 1B Chad Tracy.
(16-24) Brewers - 6 at 7 - Cardinals (27-14)
  • Cardinals 3B David Freese launched a grand slam.
  • Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia got the win despite giving up six runs in 5 1/3 innings.
  • Brewers SP Wily Peralta was knocked around for seven runs (six earned) over five innings.
  • Brewers 3B Aramis Ramirez connected for a pair of three-run homers.
(24-17) Giants - 9 at 10 - Rockies (21-20)
  • Rockies 1B Jordan Pacheco went 2-for-5 with a grand slam and five RBI.
  • Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa was tagged for five runs in five innings.
  • Giants SP Madison Bumgarner was knocked around for nine runs (seven earned) over 4 2/3 innings in a loss.
  • Giants 2B Marco Scutaro went 3-for-5 with an RBI single and a run scored.

American League:

(17-24) Blue Jays - 0 at 5 - Yankees (25-16)
  • Yankees SP Hiroki Kuroda was dominant, giving up two hits over eight shutout innings.
  • Blue Jays SP Mark Buehrle was charged with five runs over six-plus innings Friday in a loss to the Yankees.
  • Yankees C Austin Romine went 2-for-3 with an RBI double and a run scored.
  • Yankees OF Brett Gardner went 2-for-3 with a walk, a triple and an RBI single.
  • Blue Jays 1B Edwin Encarnacion went 2-for-4 with a double.
(20-18) Royals - 1 at 2 - Athletics (21-22)
  • Athletics SS Adam Rosales hit a go-ahead homer off James Shields in the eighth.
  • Athletics SP Jarrod Parker pitched seven innings of one-run ball in a no-decision.
  • Royals SP James Shields took a complete-game loss after giving up two runs in eight innings.
  • Athletics OF Yoenis Cespedes went 0-for-4 to drop under the Mendoza Line at .198.
(18-21) White Sox - 3 at 0 - Angels (15-26)
  • White Sox OF Alex Rios went 2-for-3 with a homer and a walk, extending his hitting streak to 12 games.
  • Angels SS Erick Aybar went 0-for-4 and is just 11-for-51 this month.
  • White Sox SP Chris Sale struck out 12 in 7 2/3 scoreless innings.
(20-22) Mariners - 3 at 6 - Indians (23-17) (10 innings)
  • Indians 2B Jason Kipnis blasted a three-run walkoff homer in the tenth inning.
  • Indians SP Ubaldo Jimenez delivered another strong effort in a no-decision against the Mariners on Friday, surrendering two runs on seven hits over his five frames.
  • Mariners OF Raul Ibanez remained red hot in an extra-inning loss, going 3-for-5 with a two-run homer.
  • Mariners SP Brandon Maurer turned in a quality start in a no-decision, allowing three runs on five hits over his six frames.
(21-20) Rays - 12 at 10 - Orioles (23-18)
  • Ryas RP Joel Peralta recorded the final four outs to preserve a two-run lead and earn his first save of the season.
  • Rays OF Kelly Johnson homered and drove home four runs.
  • Rays SP Jeremy Hellickson pitched poorly, but still earned a victory after allowing eight runs on 10 hits over his 7 2/3 innings.
  • Orioles OF Chris Dickerson smashed a three-run homer in a losing effort.
  • Orioles SP Jason Hammel was obliterated in a losing effort, getting torched for seven runs on 10 hits over his 4 2/3 innings of work.
(23-17) Tigers - 2 at 1 - Rangers (27-15)
  • Tigers 3B Miguel Cabrera went 3-for-4 with an RBI double and a run scored.
  • Tigers RP Jose Valverde shut the Rangers down in the ninth inning, preserving a one-run lead and earning his fourth save of the season.
  • Tigers SP Rick Porcello was impressive, allowing only one run on five hits over 5 2/3 innings.
  • Rangers C Geovany Soto homered for the second consecutive game, but that was the entirety of the Rangers offensive attack.
  • Rangers SP Nick Tepesch pitched decently in a losing effort, allowing two runs on six hits over his five innings.
(25-17) Red Sox - 3 at 2 - Twins (18-20) (10 innings)
  • Red Sox RP Koji Uehara notched his first save of the season in 10 innings.
  • Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz yielded two runs in seven innings in a no-decision.
  • Twins SP Vance Worley showed some signs of life, as he allowed one unearned run over six innings as part of a no-decision.
  • Red Sox DH David Ortiz went 3-for-4 with an RBI single.
  • Twins OF Josh Willingham was hitless in four at-bats and is hitting .198 for the year.
Inter League:
 
(11-31) Astros - 4 at 5 - Pirates (25-17)
  • Pirates 3B Pedro Alvarez went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer.
  • Pirates RP Jeanmar Gomez was touched up for four runs (three earned) in 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision.
  • Astros SP Jordan Lyles allowed two runs (one earned) in five-plus innings in a no-decision.
  • Astros C Jason Castro went 0-for-2 with a walk and a sacrifice fly.

  • Marlins purchased the contract of LHP Duane Below from Triple-A New Orleans.
  • Marlins designated RHP Jon Rauch for assignment.
  • Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood will be recalled from Triple-A Colorado to start against the Giants on Saturday.
  • Pirates recalled RHP Jared Hughes from Triple-A Indianapolis.
  • Pirates placed RHP Jose Contreras on the bereavement list.
  • Mets SP Zack Wheeler was placed on the 7-day disabled list with Triple-A Las Vegas due to his recent clavicle soreness.
  • Padres designated RHP Thad Weber for assignment.
  • Padres purchased the contract of RHP Tim Stauffer from Triple-A Tucson.
  • Braves placed RHP Jordan Walden on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 12, with right shoulder inflammation.

  • Tigers prospect left-hander Casey Crosby was placed on the 7-day disabled list with Triple-A due to a left shoulder impingement.
  • Mariners transferred RHP Stephen Pryor from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
  • Mariners optioned RHP Hector Noesi to Triple-A Tacoma.
  • Mariners purchased the contract of RHP Danny Farquhar from Triple-A Tacoma.

National League:

  • Dodgers 2B Mark Ellis was removed early from Friday's rehab game as a precautionary measure due to poor field conditions.
  • Nationals manager Davey Johnson confirmed Friday that SP Ross Detwiler will not make his scheduled start against the Giants on Monday due to a lower back injury.
  • Dodgers 2B Mark Ellis (quad) was scheduled to play four innings and receive two at-bats during his rehab game with Double-A Chattanooga on Friday, but was removed from the game after just three innings and one at-bat.
  • Mets SP Jenrry Mejia (elbow) racked up six strikeouts over three innings during his first minor league rehab start with High-A St. Lucie on Friday.
  • Cardinals SPJake Westbrook (elbow) isn't expected to return from the disabled list when he's first eligible.
  • Mets prospect catcher Travis d'Arnaud (foot) can't do anything weight-bearing for another two weeks.
  • Phillies RP Mike Adams went for an MRI which revealed a mild mid-back strain.
  • The Cubs will wait to see how SP Matt Garza (lat) feels and how his bullpen session goes Saturday before they make a decision about activating him.
  • Rockies OF Michael Cuddyer (neck) isn't sure he'll be ready for activation from the disabled list on May 24 when first eligible.
  • Pirates 2B Chase d'Arnaud (thumb) began a rehab assignment with High-A Bradenton on Thursday.
American League:
  • Royals OF Jarrod Dyson has been diagnosed with a mild high ankle sprain and is expected to be sidelined for 2-to-4 weeks.
  • Twins assistant general manager Rob Antony said Friday that SP Rich Harden's rehab has been "slow" and "not very well to be honest".
  • Rangers SP Alexi Ogando (biceps) underwent an MRI which revealed no structural damage.
  • Indians SP Brett Myers (elbow) fared well in his first minor league rehab start with Double-A Akron on Friday, allowing just one hit and a walk over three scoreless innings of work.
  • Twins OF Darin Mastroianni will undergo surgery on Wednesday to repair a bone chip on his left ankle, and will be sidelined for at least six weeks.
  • Angels SP Jered Weaver (elbow) threw four innings in a simulated game Friday and feels ready for a minor league rehab assignment.
  • Athletics OF Chris Young (quad) had some cramping in his leg after Thursday's rehab game, but hopes to be activated from the disabled list on Saturday.
  • Orioles 3B Wilson Betemit (knee) began jogging in a pool on Friday.
  • Orioles C Taylor Teagarden (thumb) had the splint removed from his dislocated left thumb on Friday.
  • Athletics C John Jaso (leg) indicated Friday that his right leg is still sore, making him unlikely to be available for Friday night's game against the Royals.
  • Angels RP Sean Burnett (forearm) will pitch in a minor league rehab game Saturday with High-A Inland Empire.
  • Athletics SP Brett Anderson was diagnosed with a navicular stress fracture of his right foot and will be shut down for four weeks.
  • Red Sox C David Ross is still experiencing concussion symptoms and is likely to be re-examined Monday in Boston.
  • Blue Jays OF Rajai Davis (oblique) has been sent to Florida to start his rehab.
  • Blue Jays SP Josh Johnson (triceps) is on track to make a rehab start on Monday or Tuesday.
  • Blue Jays SP Dustin McGowan (shoulder) will continue his minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo.
  • Orioles SP Miguel Gonzalez (thumb) is expected to be activated to start Tuesday against the Yankees.
  • Astros SP Bud Norris (back) will have his next start pushed back to Tuesday against the Royals.
  • Rangers SP Colby Lewis (elbow) is expected to rejoin the Rangers' rotation in the first week of June.
  • The Mariners think SP Aaron Harang (back) will be ready to make his next start.
  • Yankees manager Joe Girardi said 3B Kevin Youkilis (back) will take batting practice "pretty soon."
  • White Sox 2Gordon Beckham (hand) could be activated from the disabled list for the series against the Marlins next weekend.
  • White Sox SP John Danks (shoulder) could rejoin the rotation next weekend.
Notes and Rumors:

National League:
  • Padres OF Carlos Quentin will return from the paternity leave list Saturday.
  • Rockies SP Juan Nicasio has had his next start pushed back a day, and will now start against the Giants on Sunday.
American League:
  • Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times hears that Rays prospect right-hander Jake Odorizzi is the most likely option to fill in for David Price (triceps) in the starting rotation.
  • Astros SP Lucas Harrell will move up in the rotation to start Sunday against the Pirates.
