  • Reds OF Jay Bruce had an RBI single in the fourth and a two-run double in the 10th.
  • Reds SP Mat Latos pitched 8 1/3 innings of two-run ball in a no-decision.
  • Marlins RP Steve Cishek took his fourth loss after giving up three runs in 1 2/3 innings.
  • Marlins OF Juan Pierre hit his annual homer, delivering a leadoff shot off Mat Latos in the first.
(16-23) Brewers - 1 at 7 - Pirates (24-17)
  • Pirates OF Travis Snider went 3-for-5 and finally hit his first homer of the season.
  • Pirates SP Francisco Liriano improved to 2-0 after allowing one run in 5 2/3 innings.
  • Brewers SP Hiram Burgos allowed three runs in five innings.
(24-17) Giants - 8 at 6 - Rockies (21-20)
  • Giants SS Brandon Crawford went 2-for-4 with a three-run double.
  • Giants SP Matt Cain won despite allowing six runs in 6 1/3 innings.
  • Rockies SP Jhoulys Chacin surrendered eight runs in 5 1/3 innings.
  • Rockies C Wilin Rosario went 2-for-4 and hit a three-run homer off Matt Cain.
(15-23) Mets - 5 at 2 - Cardinals (26-14)
  • Mets SP Jonathon Niese allowed just two runs and six hits over 7.1 innings for the win.
  • Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright allowed three run and six hits over six innings while striking out eight in a loss.
  • Mets 2B Daniel Murphy had a big day going 4-for-4 with and RBI, walk and run scored.
  • Cardinals OF Carlos Beltran went 3-for-4 with an RBI.
  • Mets 3B David Wright went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored.
  • Mets RP Bobby Parnell picked up just his 4th save of the season.
(22-19) Nationals - 6 at 2 - Padres (18-22)
  • Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg gave up two runs -- one earned -- over eight innings.
  • In his return to the starting lineup, Nationals OF Bryce Harper (nausea, shoulder, knee) hit his 11th home run in a victory.
  • Padres SS Everth Cabrera went 0-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and an RBI.
  • Padres C Nick Hundley went 0-for-4 to drop his average to .250.
  • Padres SP Edinson Volquez allowed five runs over five innings.

American League:

(20-21) Mariners - 3 at 2 - Yankees (25-16)
  • Mariners RP Tom Wilhelmsen notched his 11th save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.
  • Mariners OF Michael Morse went 2-for-3 with a homer and a walk.
  • Mariners RP Hector Noesi allowed an unearned run over 4 1/3 innings.
  • Mariners SS Brendan Ryan turned in his first multihit game since April 5, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
(24-17) Red Sox - 4 at 3 - Rays (20-20)
  • Red Sox 1B Mike Napoli went 0-for-3 with a walk and three strikeouts.
  • Red Sox 3B Will Middlebrooks delivered a three-run double with two outs in the ninth.
  • Making his first start in 13 days, Red Sox SP Felix Doubront pitched around six walks to allow two runs in five innings.
  • Red Sox RP Junichi Tazawa pitched two scoreless innings for the victory.
  • Rays RP Fernando Rodney gave up three runs in the ninth to take his third blown save and his second loss.
  • Red Sox OF Jacoby Ellsbury went 0-for-5, dropping his average to .249.
(18-21) White Sox - 5 at 4 - Angels (15-26)
  • White Sox SP Jose Quintana surrendered four runs over 6 2/3 innings in a no-decision.
  • White Sox RP Addison Reed twirled a perfect ninth inning against the Angels Thursday for his 13th save.
  • Angels C Chris Iannetta went 1-for-2 with a walk.
  • Angels RP Jerome Williams held the White Sox to two runs over six innings Thursday in a no-decision loss.
(22-17) Tigers - 4 at 10 - Rangers (27-14)
  • Rangers SP Yu Darvish threw 130 pitches while allowing four runs over eight innings.
  • Tigers SP Justin Verlander was torched for eight runs in 2 2/3 innings.
  • Rangers C Geovany Soto hit a three-run homer off Justin Verlander.
  • Rangers DH Lance Berkman went 0-for-3 with a walk.

  • Nationals recalled C Jhonatan Solano from Triple-A Syracuse.
  • Nationals placed C Wilson Ramos on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain.
  • Rockies recalled RHP Rob Scahill from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
  • Rockies recalled INF D.J. LeMahieu from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
  • Rockies placed LHP Jeff Francis on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 15, with a left groin strain.
  • Rockies designated INF Reid Brignac for assignment.

  • Angels recalled RHP Ryan Brasier from Triple-A Salt Lake.
  • Angels purchased the contract of RHP Billy Buckner from Triple-A Salt Lake.

  • Rangers recalled RHP Cory Burns from Triple-A Round Rock.

  • Indians optioned LHP Nick Hagadone to Triple-A Columbus.
  • Yankees optioned RHP Brett Marshall to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Injury Updates:

National League:

  • Padres SP Clayton Richard (illness) will make a second rehab start with Triple-A Tucson.
  • Padres 2B Logan Forsythe (foot) took batting practice on the field Thursday.
  • Padres OF Cameron Maybin (wrist) hit in the batting cages on Thursday.
  • Cubs SP Matt Garza (lat) allowed just two hits, didn't walk anyone and struck out six over six scoreless innings in Thursday's rehab start with Triple-A Iowa.
  • Nationals OF Jayson Werth's return from the disabled list is expected to be delayed a few days after he felt some slight tightness in his right hamstring during his first rehab game with High-A Potomac Wednesday.
  • Nationals manager Davey Johnson said he's "probably not that confident" that SP Ross Detwiler (back) will be able to make his next start.
  • Braves prospect right-hander J.R. Graham has been prescribed rest to address his right shoulder strain.
  • Pirates SP James McDonald (shoulder) could throw off a mound next Tuesday.
  • Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood is expected to be recalled to start Sunday against the Giants in place of the injured Jeff Francis (groin).
  • The Reds have determined that OF Chris Heisey's hamstring aggravation was not severe.
  • Pirates SP Jeff Karstens (shoulder) will make his next rehab start Saturday with Double-A Altoona.
  • Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said Thursday that SP Charlie Morton (elbow, shoulder) will make three more minor league rehab starts.
American League:
  • The Royals are expected to place OF Jarrod Dyson (ankle) on the disabled list.
  • Yankees C Chris Stewart will undergo an MRI on his left groin.
  • Yankees SP Andy Pettitte left Thursday's start against the Mariners with a tight left trapezius muscle.
  • Rangers RP Justin Miller (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock on Friday.
  • Rangers RP Kyle McClellan (lat) has been activated from Triple-A Round Rock's disabled list.
  • Angels SP Tommy Hanson could rejoin the Angels' rotation on May 25.
  • Red Sox RP Joel Hanrahan underwent Tommy John surgery in addition to flexor tendon surgery on his right elbow Thursday.
  • Angels RP Kevin Jepsen (triceps) is nearing a rehab assignment.
  • Angels RP Sean Burnett (forearm) is expected to be activated from the disabled list next Tuesday.
  • Yankees SS Derek Jeter (ankle) is close to getting the walking boot on his left foot removed again.
  • Rangers C A.J. Pierzynski (oblique) is expected to play rehab games on Sunday and Monday.
  • Yankees manager Joe Girardi indicated that SP Ivan Nova (triceps, side) is slated to pitch Monday in Tampa.
  • Yankees SP Michael Pineda (shoulder) is scheduled to throw 50 pitches Friday, either in extended spring training or an intrasquad game.
  • Rangers SP Colby Lewis (elbow, triceps) is scheduled to throw a bullpen Friday and resume his minor league rehab assignment Monday with Double-A Frisco.
  • Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Thursday that RP Joba Chamberlain (oblique) needs at least one more rehab appearance before coming off the disabled list.

National League:
  • Giants SP Ryan Vogelsong will make his next scheduled start on Monday against the Nationals.
  • Reds RP Jonathan Broxton has lowered his ERA from 6.35 to 4.41 in May.
American League:
  • Yankees SP Hiroki Kuroda has not allowed more than three earned runs in a start this season.
  • Rangers SS Elvis Andrus has hit safely in 12 of 15 games this month.
  • Entering play on Thursday, Tigers 1B Prince Fielder was hitting just .229 in May.
  • Red Sox manager John Farrell said Thursday that the club isn't considering shutting RP Daniel Bard down or sending him to extended spring training.
  • Rangers RP Josh Lindblom will be called up to start Monday against the Athletics.
  • Tigers RP Joaquin Benoit hasn't allowed a run since April 27.
